  1. A tiny blob of super glue is the best method i have found in the tunnel trap. But i tie is on the gars of the Talpex just above the trigger plate Takes a bit of playing around but if you have got a right swine of a mole then its worth the hassle! It seems to stop the mole from diggin under the trap so deep and as it goes to push the plate out of the way to get the worm its dead!
  2. I have been attending stalks with my farther and game keepers for years, I have never really got into the hole deer shooting thing and have stuck to foxing with a 17hmr and the general pest control work that goes with a rimfire. I have now been ask to cull the deer numbers on 6 peaces of land in the Berkshire and Hampshire area. I do not hold a DSC at the moment but have been looking into taking the course. I don't feel it would make me a better stalker in anyway but I just feel that ask a professional stalker you should beable to provide a certificate. However the price it not worth it for me
  3. I use talpex and duffas traps styles. The Talpex traps I bent the trigger wire down towards the base of the tunnel so its harder to dig under the trap, I also file the end of the trigger pin to make it much more sensitve and easier to set off. When i set the trap I push the legs down into the bottom of the mole run untill the trigger wire touches the bottom of the mole tunnel, I then just back fill the trap with mole hill soil. As soon as the mole gets to the Talpex trap it tries to dig under the trap and sets it off. Duffas style traps I bend the trigger loops to more of a circle shape, redu
  4. At this time of year there will only be one mole per territory! Just look for how many territories there are and you can easily estimate the number of moles. Spring is a little different as it mateing season It depends on there area and local mole numbers to how long a reinfestation may take but it is usually over a month!
  5. I would say give up with the scissor type and get your self the flatpack duffas style or the talpex style traps, I check all traps daily, but i have been setting mole traps for years and have refined how I do it very well now! Moles are very busy little creatures so the will have come across your trap quicker than you expect if set on the right tunnels!
  6. I have used the traplines and have caught moles with them, you just have to have so many of them that the cost of the traps is rediculous! where you normally only use 3 duffas or talpex traps per mole duffas at £1.75 from primrose london! or 6 traplines at bloody £7 each!! Also traplines get lost so easy as you can't find them again or taken by scavengers. Then you have the problem of getting in massive tangles with the strings used to stop the mole stealing the traps! All in all the Talpex is my trap of choice now. As mentioned before you can cover with soil to make it look like a mole hill a
  7. They are a good trap, I have 3 of them for use in gardens, I hope you realise the cost of new snares! £25 quid each! I usually only catch around 4 per wire but have caught over 20 on a single wire. If you get paid enough to control the foxes then this is a great method!
  8. I havn't tried the 20g rounds yet but after reading this i don't think i'll bother! I herd from a friend that he couldn't get them to group as well as the 17g rounds. I saw written above that some body said that meat damage isn't much different to the 22lr!!!!!! They must be using a different 17hmr to me lol
  9. I must admit I am just getting into deer stalking and have only shot a couple of roe bucks and a few munties. I am lucky enough to be very good friends with a handful of great gamekeepers in the south east and they have been great over the years with giving me shooting. I am also lucky enough to have picked up 2,000a in the midlands but it a 200 mile round trip!!! I think its getting stupid this paying for shooting! There are farmers around here that sell day tickets for anywhere between £30 and £150 per day to go rough shooting etc. These guys have no respect for the land, land owner or the n
  10. Would be interested how you get on with that fox trap! I look after a few chicken farms which that kind of trap could work well on! I don't see why it wouldn't work
  11. Depending on the site, size, placement etc then a local pest control company would definatley trap/snare/shoot the rabbits. I have only ever controled the rabbits near one before. There were no warrens on the site, but the rabbits came from the common ground opposite the site. I went there early one morning per week put a long net along the side of the grave yard and run the dogs through. Picked up 5/6 rabbits a time. This may work for you!
  12. One tip! Call the flat pack company and get a couple of there duffas traps to try They make my job alot easier
  13. I have herd of people catching badgers with them! I haven't myself. The collarum is much the same as any other snare, If it pulls on the bait and has a neck of similar size to a fox it will get caught. But as the cable is very thick and has a shock absorber on the anchor point it causes no harm to the animal. Unlike the normal fox snares which are thinner and can twist and strangle the animal.
  14. Its the same in the south. People just don't want to pay! Its only my customers with large houses and picture perfect gardens that still want them caught. I was getting 4 domestic mole control calls a day only 4 weeks ago, with most of them going ahead, Now with the xmas adverts on tele and all they don't want to let the cash go! Going to be a long slow winter for sure
  15. I get the odd call over the winter some years, I didnt last year but I am still getting calls now. Maybe one nest per week, most are still quite active so i think they could last a while longer yet if the weather holds up. Moles are still popping p all over the place in Berkshire. Im getting arounf 3 calls per day!!! every day! crazy
  16. I have never had a fox on the collarum dig or chew anything but the cable. On normal thinner gage fox wires I have but not with the collarum?? I have no idea why as they are both snares. But I havn't used normal fox wire's on urban foxes.
  17. Sorry guys, I forgot I put it on here for sale. I sold it the first day it was put on here
  18. Hi all, I have been involved with hunting since an infant. I have been shooting, trapping, ferreting etc for years but have never really got in to coursing. I have been out a couple of times with a mates dog on rabbits round here. But the dog i borrow is just a mates pet and only catchers the odd rabbit. If anyone would take us out in the berkshire area. upto 20miles or so from rg41, that would be great.
  19. Yeah for sure. I recon the re-palcements cost me around £6 per snare.
  20. I no many people that use them and can't catch a sauage. I make my own re-placements, so they work out quite cheap. Its not possible to set snares in peopes back garden. Most of the foxes caught in urban areas don't dig or chew stuff. The wire gets chewed a bit but its that thick it dosen't matter.
  21. I must admit, it is a great worker too, better than my other I think. Wonder if its got something to do with being wild for a while or if its just a better ferret??
  22. that got to be the best set up pics ive ever seen moley haha,, god 200 in them to ? well ewhast can one say ?? mm ?? nothing bar what a load of shit them traps are lol,, It sounds like your the only person that thinks they are crap. Maybe your trapping skills are the problem!
  23. There is another fox from the same place. As for the ground getting trashed, yes it doe's really badly! That fox was one of the most tame i have come across but they vary alot. some just sit there and other do loop the loop. As for the wires lasting. I have had wires kink after only 3 catches but i have also caught 20 or so on a single wire before too. I guess i average around 10 per wire. As for a load of shit! I caught 68 foxes in 6 months at a poulty farm this spring! 200 foxes isn't that many when its your job and hobby you no.
  24. You will be surprised how much people will pay. I have had people offer me £600-£800 per day for pigeon shooting. I don't take people rabbit shooting as I think there would be a small problem with insurance and HSE when it comes to a clients standing in the back of a pickup lol And a friend of mine shot a hole in my bloody bonet with a 20g. I personally think its a piss take. The £100 fair enough but like you lot say the £3 per rabbit on top is just wrong.
