  1. Sometimes these 'short n sweet' hunting trips are the best. Nice bunny, bonus egg thief dropped - happy days Well done, Duncan
  2. A good read, and I especially liked the pic of prepared bunnies for the pot/freezer. Well done guys! ATB Duncan.
  3. Hi guys n gals, I went out with my good friend Chris today, his rimmie and my HW100S to thin out some vermin on one of my permissions. It was fairly windy, and the CZ .22rf with its 40 grain bullets showed their mettle when shooting into a clamp today. That said, the end tally was 5 rats (during the day) and a Magpie. Chris shot a 1 rat in the clamp, but I managed the other 4 - 1 with his rimmie, 1 at 35 yards for a qurtering headshot and 2 in a pig rearing barn where the rimfire would have done damage. Sometimes, air rifles aren't just the best tool for the job, they are the only too
  4. Nice one Darryl. It is always good to see folk encouraging other shooters and helping out; putting back into the community is what will keep it thriving. ATB Duncan
  5. Even after all these years, I hate seeing a myxoma virus victim. I'd have grabbed a long stick for a coup de grace. Poor bugger. Duncan.
  6. Speaking of hares, I was at a clayflush at Sywell on wednesday gone (a truly storming evening - including some reactive/exploding clays) and there was a leveret feeding right in the middle of where bits of clay were raining down. Barrages of gun fire from the clay flush teams, explosions going on and it just sat there amongst it all calmy feeding. The daft young hare only left when a bit of clay landed almost directly on it. I guess they just know they are safe at Sywell, as are the rabbits and pigeons.
  7. Season - they breed through til september. I'll also offer any guidance you want - I've been airgun hunting all my adult life, and now into rimfires and shotguns too. You are welcome to join me on my permissions and I'm happy to show you the full works -marksmanship, fieldcraft, cleaning shot quarry, skinning, butchery and cookery. It may speed up your learning curve (I had to work everything out for myself when I was younger and it took time!). Good first post though - well done on embarking on a fabulous, productive hobby ATB Duncan that would be amazing! but i b
  8. Welcome Hoodies? Very useful for keeping the rain off your face. I sometimes wear a cut-off hoodie to the clay ground at Sherington as it has pockets at the front which hold 25 carts each - very handy for a round of sporting. Gets some good reactions from some of the old duffers Your actions define you, not your threads. I hope you enjoy fatherhood! ATB Duncan
  9. Guns are indeed for gays........ straights, bisexuals, transexuals and transvestites. Dogs are for dogmen, dog lovers, fetishists etc. To each their own
  10. Lovely pictures and terrier of unknown origin may some him up well - cheeky lil' b;stard Nice to see kids n dogs having fun in the fresh air. Keep it up! Duncan PS - thought it was 'fear the reaper' not the beaver lol!
  11. I've recently (this year) been through this, having been a rifleman all my life. I invested in a couple of hours coaching at the local clay ground and practised on clays to 'get my eye in'. Now I can pretty much ace on the pigeons whenever I want although I'll never be a clay champion. Money spent now in tuition will reap its own benefits and set you up for life. If you're decoying pigeons and sensibly waiting for them to commit to your pattern, do what Archie Coates said, and use your shotgun barrels as an imaginary paint brush and 'paint them' out of the sky, pulling your trigger as y

  13. Following on from the 'regrets' thread, what things have you done in life that you are really glad you did? For me the obvious stuff: getting into shooting and cooking, motorbikes and sowing some wild oats when I was younger (!) Appreciating that my university days were some of the best of my life whilst I was experiencing them. Setting up a business and finding an occupation that i enjoyed. So come on folks - spill some beans!!! ATB Duncan
  14. Nietzsche wasn't always right. Falling from a cliff might not always kill, but it can leave you in a coma Regrets? Where do you start? Splitting up with a girlfriend who had the body of a sculptors model, leaving a cushy high paid job because the boss annoyed me occasionally, not going fac/sgc many years earlier. I could go on, but I won't Live from today forward, and remember that you spend a long time dead. So lets party like its 1999, as the ugly stunted near-genius singer wrote
  15. I am a Weihrauch fan and have had 97k, 95k and currently own an HW100S, classic length. Had it for 5 years now and it has accounted for thousands of bunnies over the years. My 95K was a real tack driver. When I did my job right, I could get pellet on top of pellet at 35 yards - not half bad for a springer! Never tried a springer off a 'pod as I always shoot free-hand. Doesn't a pod affect the POI? My 95K definitely got smoother with use. Weihrauchs are hard to fault IMHO. ATB Duncan.
  16. hmmm well after a long conversation she now wants a rifle, i can feel my pocket hurting on pay day Yes, but be happy
  17. By all means, get ferrets, but don't sell the gun! I've found circumstances for ferrets and nets, for air rifles and ferrets and shotguns. Cover all bases !
  18. Last I knew, European Bison were endangered and protected. In Poland, at the very least. Hunted to near extinction, captively bred and then reintroduced.
  19. Theres always some scrote around to spoil things. I'd be tempted to chuck them in the quarry and give them a taste of their own medicine.
  20. Many will agree with that Bill. I suppose the other reason I carry 32g of 6's as well, is for when the odd crow happens along. The 7 1/2's don't slow them down much as they are tough beggars! I wentr through a spell of using 36g of no4's for crow. They don't like it up em!
  21. Should be til the end of July, and then on the stubbles for a while longer.
  22. TBH it all depends on range. At 30 yards, 7's still carry nearly 2fpe of energy per pellet which is easily enough to knock the bird out of the sky. For me, if I'm limiting range to 25 yards and only hitting pigeons that are commiting to land in my pattern, then I'll shoot with no7 shot for economy. If I'm going to be shooting longer crossers etc then I use 32g of no6. At any range i can actually hit them (55 yards seems to be my limit at the moment) it 32g of 6 kills them in the air. ATB Duncan BTW 28g or 30g, just means more shot. It is shot size that sets the amount of energy
  23. Sounds like an en masse posse of pee'd off customers arriving at the store ath the same time demanding their money back is in order. No threats or violence etc as we are all better than that (and want to preserve our sgc's and fac's). 1 or 2 angry punters they can turf out and deal with, but a few dozen? That is a different matter...
  24. Yep, thats why I let the wife have lots of cats
  25. Hi gang, has anyone else experienced the following? On wednesday eve at sywell, northants, I went as part of a team for an informal clay flush competition. I'm a relative newcomer to shotgunning and especially clay shooting, but was surprised to find that our team was doing very well. Thoughts went from "hope we don't come last", to "We might win this!". In fact at the halfway point we were ahead of the pack! Came second in the end with a score of 280 ex 300. Then yesterday, I got persuaded to go to a little club flush. Shot abysmally. Was it the peeing rain? Using no9 shot f
