Lucky chap if it needed almost nothing doing! What stock does it have? :-) D
-
Too right moley, another plus point for orchards is that they are a big draw for magpies in autumn when fruit falls and bugs feed on it. A good opportunity to thin out the black n White bandits! D

Just watch out for Woundwort! He'll 'ave your terrier

Hi folks; I get sent out with the air rifle yesterday after tea, to "go and chill out". I guess I was tetchy from heavy workload and a-holes getting on my wick! Anyway, the long and short of it is I'd left most of my kit (hunting bag with net jacket, face veil, both pairs of gloves paunching knife etc) in the boot of my car which was locked in the secure compound at work - long day and I'd come home in the lorry. I thought "Balls to it" and went anyway - no camo's, trainers, jeans etc, HW100S and pellets. As harvesting was going on, the bunnies were pretty spooked and were relu

No worries mate What goes around comes around - you'll do similar sooner or later for someone else. Net suits are brilliant! Great for summer especially, as they just go over whatever you're wearing. I bought a realtree outfit a few months ago but its a tad hot on a warm day even with the fleece bit removed. So I use lightweight dpm trousers and an old net jacket on the top on warm days, facenet and gloves (essential I reckon, in the hide against avian quarry, but give confidence stalking bunnies too). PS Does your Dad shoot things other than airpowered?

Mixy Rabbits
The Duncan replied to Whitby_Sam's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Just a myth I am pleased to say. In South America, where the myxoma virus originates from, the Brazilian Cotton Tail only suffers a minor irritation from the virus (spread by fleas). But To Oryctolagus Corniculus, European Rabbit, the disease is potentially fatal. To destroy infected animals or not? Yes, on one hand, to prevent suffering. No, on the other, as some colonies are becoming immune to the virus. Last autumn, a gamekeeper friend of mine rounded up 6 myxy'd bunnies and put them in a secure pen with healthy grass to eat, water and shelter. After 3 weeks, they all recovered, just b -
Perhaps cooked them wrong? Honestly though, hunting rabbits is a skillful hunting genre in its own right and deserves full credit IMHO. In a similar vein, when I finally went all FAC and got powder burners, the wife said " Are you taking your real rifle out tonight?". She made me laugh, because I've taken literally thousands of bunnies etc with the humble air rifle - how real does a hunting rifle have to be? When times have been hard, hunting rabbits has helped out massively, by putting fresh, free range meat on the table time and again. So down with the naysayers, hunting ra

Welcome aboard mate

It seems to be a fact of life, that on every forum covering any subject, there will always be at least one as you described. Just like at school, these types are best ignored and hopefully they will eventually get the message. At least on THL, the mods all seem pretty reasonable (so far) so it doesn't look like they'll be part of the problem (unlike on certain other shooting sites ). Welcome aboard fella! Duncan

People with a good attitude like yours are especially welcome Turn off the caps lock though mate (LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE SHOUTING!!) All the best, Duncan.

Thanks John, you're a solid chap and I look forward to learning from you. All the best, Duncan.

A foot in both camps for me. Some places, they don't seem to be bothered by a fallen comrade, other shoots I have it seems to spook them. So I'll always leave it a few mins as often, a second (or more) shot may be on the cards. If another shot doesn't present itself after a few mins, I stalk over to retrieve and paunch the kill. I stalk carefully back to avoid vibration through the ground and get settled again as quickly as possible. ATB Duncan

Wanted Vermin Shoot in Buckinghamshire/Bedfordshire area
The Duncan replied to WingedBeast's topic in Shooting Opportunities
Whereabouts are you? I'm guessing near Olney? -
Yes its possible mate, but as with any spring powered rifle, they make minimal difference, most of the noise is from the spring and not the air leaving the barrel, maybe 5/10% noise reduction but is it worth it for the extra weight and length it will add to your rifle, certainly makes the gun look abit better, but i personally think silencers on springers arnt worth the money for the difference they make Atb peter Peter, I agree completely. I once had a HW95K and had it fitted with a silencer - total waste of time. To be perfectly honest, there wasn't really much muzzle crack in the

Sounds like a bargain but no doubt will need some work. I always fancied one, again, largely down to its looks (and name). Never got one though, but my HW100S has stopped any such romanticized hankerings
-
Good advice above. I must reiterate gun fit is absolutely key. I struggled with various guns that fitted very badly and now I have one that fits pretty close, my scores have improved no end. Which course did you do well in and which badly in? I myself get on very well with a sporting layout, but struggle on skeet. Pigeons from the hide I rarely miss, fortunate as I am a quarry shotgunner rather than clay shooter - I only used clays to get competent to hunt. Have you tried a side by side? I did and it heloed me realise that the O/U was the gun I did best with and they tend to fit me be

Hi Airgunant, For clays I use 1/4 and imp cylinder, for pigeons 1/4 and 1/2. If you are only knocking a few feathers out of them, it sounds like you're only clipping them with a couple of pellets as the feathers come out really easily. Try shortening your range and concentrate on getting them more in the middle of your shot pattern - out to 30 yards and a bit more, clay type chokes should do the job fine, tighten up the chokes if you are shooting them a bit further out. Until lately, I only had a 3/4 and full fixed choked Bettinsoli which I used for everything, Skeet too! From the hid

12 bore. Cheap to feed, a tad heavier than a 20 but recoil is pretty tame because of it. If chambered for 3", ok for fowling, as well as the standard game quarry. Very versatile indeed. I had a go with a Baikal at the weekend, o/u 12 bore and was surprised at just how good it was! It didn't look as agricultural as I expected and cost the owner only £120. My regular gun is a Beretta and my spare is a Bettinsoli, but I found the Baikal to be more than proficient. Cheers Duncan.

That's encouraging - mine is getting cut this week and I'm feeling the withdrawal symptoms of not decoying woodies! Cheers Duncan

Close to quid a month on dog food Thanks for the rimmie compliment - I tend to take different tools when I go out to cater for changing eventualities, especially when I've a friend or two along. We actually also had a couple of 12 bores locked away, just in case... Nice going Donky7! I reckon when we go back under cover of darkness, following a low light and baiting regime for a few days, we may be just as busy Can you make an air rifle barrel get hot like a shotguns? I'll give it a go! And it'll cost less too All the best gang, Duncan.

Hi Guys n gals, I'm looking for a ferreter in N Bucks. I have some permissions where shooting rabbits alone isn't enough and ferrets are needed, both for netting and possibly with a shotty (done this before - works well). My permissions are between Olney and Newport Pagnell, nr J14 of the M1. My postcode is MK16 9ET. Please pm me if you fancy it. Cheers Duncan.
