    i take my pup out with the old dog until he starts to catch the odd rabbit. once he has achieved this i then take them out single handed until i get them going well, unless they are struggling to catch then i will give them the odd night here and there with the old dog again so as they get to mouth a rabbit and try to keep there confidence up.

    that should soon heal up mate. she will be ready for working again in a few days.

    the dogs still young and the problem can be cured it will be a little bit difficult as its your first lurcher and you are learning the ropes yourself. dogs aint stupid and she/he will soon realise that theres a better chance of catching the one in the beem. just keep at it and the penny should eventally drop.

    your so wrong. like i say think what you like. how do you know how much alsation and greyhound my pups got in him as i dont even know that myself, you dont know the bloke that bred him or his dogs. it appears you know more about my dog than i do so how can i argue with you about him lol. theres alot of years of none bull blooded lurcher to lurcher breeding in the sire. as i say its a hunting forum and all i am doing is showing my method of training lurchers and how sucsesful it can be. what ever else you think is going on is all in your head your imagining things.

    i will put some pics up tomorow for you mate. he is a lump of a dog hes 24 - 24.5tts and 55lbs when i weighed him last week.

    thanks for the replies. the pup had plenty left in his tank as i had stoped lamping and still had three and a half fields to walk. At this time there was a break in the cloud and the moon gave enough light to see farely well, the little fecker was still chaseing rabbits flat out but i chose not to lamp them.

    looked on the txt last night and rain was forecast. so i decided to take the pup to a area that usally holds a few rabbits as the conditons would aid him a bit when working, there wasnt a bloody drop off rain all night so the pup had his work cut out but done well. i had a steady walk over a few fields and picked the odd run or two in each field leaving loads of rabbits to carry on with there nights feeding. as the night went on the pup started to pick the odd rabbit up here and there, his retrieve wasnt spot on but thats a small matter. i decided to call it a night after 10 rabbits b

    its a way of life for me. my dogs are worked like blacks and looked after like royalty, and if you could ask them what they thought of there lifestyle i bet they wouldnt want it any other way. they are working dogs and working is what they do.

    good luck mate. i am off out tonite with the pup. going to walk some new land, its not the best of nights but its nice to be out there hunting.

    ive never known it cause any problems. some dogs will just run the length of the field with the rabbit they catch because its just the way they are.( some learn to retrieve others just wont have it.) i always skin my rabbits then boil them for 5-10 minutes before i feed them the dog. i brought in a dog that would always take the first rabbit he caught to the other end of the field and eat its head, then he would be o.k for the rest of the night.

    i would try your dog on lamb. you should be able to get off cuts from your local butchers.
