  1. BEDDY .Good looking dog. Among other things... She's a line bred Doxhope bitch (out of Yella) so a degree of Deerhound in the mix. Still jumping bales for fun at over 10yrs old!
  2. My bitch 2 years ago at 10. Still going and looks no different... doesn't look that different to when she was 2 to be honest!
  3. Shhh don't tell my local shoot but my favourite day for a mooch on my permission is the day after a shoot... just being humane if my lurcher finds the odd pricked bird!
  4. I think this dog came up in conversation today when I was speaking with 'Gin' off here? Yes/No? Quite possibly; Gin bred her. Cheers. Cheers, I just like to put (dog) faces to names!
  5. Agreed! just like humans an animal can go a fair time without 'food' but will die pretty sharpish if it is losing fluids by vomit/urinating/defecation. Water is essential. I know nothing about staffies but if you are talking old dogs there are a multitude of reasons for it throwing up; vets is the best place to go. However, ask yourself a couple of simple questions... what has it eaten drunk or lately (anything out of the ordinary? bones/barf/refuse) and where has it been that is either unusual or uncommon (contact with poisons or allergies).
  6. Aye... if you can run 2.5 miles before the dog drops it! Just joshin.

  8. Ask yourself why you wouldn't train a dog to jump! Unless you run your dog somewhere that jumping would be dangerous, I can't see a reason not to get it jumping. Most dogs when being worked will do it whether you want them to or not!
  9. I like the look of that. I know there isn't any BUT that almost gives the impression that there's Borzoi blood in the mix.
  10. I was just thinking that! I'd give my right arm toe nail cuttings for some decent open ground like that. Then again I'm also jealous of the lads with their dry stone walled sheep grazing fields... oh and them that has grounds with reeds for a bit of daytime mooching and...! The grass is always greener on the other side, so I should be thankful for the permission I have I suppose. It's always good to see young'uns out (dogs and humans) and a nice end to the ferreting season I suppose.
  11. For a laugh I entered my Lurcher in a little gun dog trial at a Country Fair over in Toll Bar Cumbria about a dozen years ago. When I first asked if I could enter a lurcher in the competition the looks on the faces of the blokes running it was a picture; they were laughing and smirking and happy to take my quid... until it did the first retrieve! Their jaws dropped when it sat to heel and then blasted out of the seat to do the double retrieve, bringing the dummys straight back to hand and in a time that made their Spaniels and Labs look silly. All went well with my dog tearing a new b
  12. Shame the video has been removed!
  13. My 'pup' Sept 09 (then going on 10yrs) atop one of her favourite lookout spots. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but considering he was on his last legs and 13yrs old, he still liked a mooch
  14. Wasn't Dancer 7 when she won the singles and doubles in 98? I'd agree that it depends on the dog and how it's been entered but to think a dog has peaked by 3 is too early imho. A good dog has all the prey drive and enthusiasm early on but lacks the experience; the peak comes when it's got the brains and experience and yet still got the drive and enthusiasm. So I'd widen the window to anywhere from 4-8 years (obviously dependent upon type of dog and how it's been worked). It also depends on what discipline you are talking about; my old dog peaked as a ferreting dog at 9, he had an unca
  15. My 11/12 year old 'pup' has surely had her last season but then again my previous 13 year old dog was better at retrieving shot woodies than when he was a young dog! I'll try and put a pic up of the 'pup' but she probably looks no older now than she did at 2.
  16. The way your dog's eying that tree rabbits down your way must be good climbers!
  17. Same here! I've got about 7-8 12v batteries in the garage and every time I take one out to charge it my mate just pats his jacket pocket and gloats. Trying to decide whether to pick one up in a month or two when I HOPE the prices might drop a bit because of the end of the season but then again it'll sit round doing nowt for 6mths if I do get it.
  18. Army and Navy Surplus Store and get an old canvas gasmask bag, goes over one shoulder but so long as it's a nice wide webbing strap you just swap shoulders every hour or so.
  19. The wife's been missing three days now. Police contacted me today and said that I should expect the worst... so I went down to Oxfam and got all her clothes back!

  20. Are you talking about full blown 'Collie Eye Anomaly' CEA or the simple mismatch of eye colour that can occur in Merles as they are very different things. The mismatch in eye colour makes them look wall eyed but their vision is fine! It is a recessive gene so if the collie sire (or dam) has the 'Merle eye' then there is a good chance it will be passed along but that doesn't guarantee pups will have it and if you later breed any pups from your Merle eye cross to another Merle Lurcher with the mismatched eye, then you've really just upped your chances. It has to be stressed that the mismatche
  21. Spot on with the Math Exactly. It always amazes me how many people assume because you breed in a certain cross that it will take the best attributes from the breed you put in... unfortunately it doesn't always work out like that! There is absolutely no guarantee that if you use a Collie in the make up of the pups that you are guaranteed to get the brains and tractability of the Collie; likewise stick a Saluki in the mix assuming that you'll get the stamina of that breed and for all you know you'll end up with the brains of the Saluki and the stamina of the Greyhound! Not saying i
  22. That'll give your pup something to dream about... watch his little legs go 10 to the dozen when he replays that catch in his sleep!
