  1. Then the Spaniel (unadulterated) is the animal for the job! You'd not be gaining anything by crossing with a lurcher.
  2. You've got to ask what the Spaniel is going to add to the mix that another strain couldn't... nope can't see it! I'm after a lurcher pup but I'd not even glance at something with that mix!
  3. Oddly enough the two images of dogs shown so far don't differ 'that' much from my two! Not exactly in their prime at 11 and 13 years old.
  4. That wasn't intended as a pop at you but there does seem to be a distinct anti approach to feeding complete food but tbh the nutrition that a pup needs isn't something to just take a punt at and the good complete foods have everything a pup needs! Good luck with the pup.
  5. FFS go and buy some Beta Puppy till 'you' decide what diet you want her on. Absolutely nowt wrong with good quality complete/dried puppy food!
  6. Not a dig directed at you personally mate but it does puzzle me when folks say "fancy trying one..."
  7. Only people who are bothered run boarding kennels, they insist on dogs jabbed up (suppose legally they'd have to). My vets have never asked in all of these years, despite taking the pup to get jabbed even though the old dog hadn't been done since the first booster! A greedy vets might try and apply pressure.
  8. Mine got the first pup and one follow up jab and no problems for 14 + 12 years... could just have been lucky I suppose!
  9. I'll tell you what, if you repeat that mating before I get sorted with (an identical) pup, I'll drive down to Devon to collect one of them! Deerhound/Collie/Beddie with Greyhound or Whippet in the mix is just up my street and when they are from proven stock...
  10. I'll see if my lass can put hands to the pics taken when Dancer won the FC, she had them published in TCW at the time. AS also asked her to do some pics back home but I'll have to see what they are as I'm not putting up anything that someone wouldn't want up (by that I mean pics of where he lives etc. NOTHING to do with anything else)... he may even have the negs (pre-digital)!
  11. I went out on a Lurcher Club lamping comp (rabbits) against a 'kin HUGE 33" dog (mine was 26") and it picked up a few bunnies absolutely no probs but if they were sharp bunnies it was made to look a bit of a chump! However, my 26" 'could' (pre-ban) take all legal quarry and handle bunnies with ease... the big dog that struggled with twisty bunnies excelled at all larger quarry.
  12. That'll be why I like him. Been looking for a pup from a similar cross (don't mind if there was collie in the mix) for the last 9mths but everything has Bull or Saluki in it, each to his own but Bull/Saluki isn't something I'm after. If you are still looking for a pup i no he has got a litter from Butlers half brother If you could PM me details that'd be great but I'd better be clear (don't want to waste your time ), I am looking for a pup that is weeks old not months and though I don't mind a bit of travel, I am up in Northumberland! they are about 12 weeks i think. bu
  13. You can buy various 'coursing' slips that are a wide leather collar attached to a release clip, when you fire the trigger the whole collar comes off the dog. I bought a short one donkey's years ago (9" lead/strap with a release trigger on the collar) but it took about 2 nights before I was back to a normal wide leather collar and a bit of string... a lot less fiddly!

  17. With one of my old dogs that was ALWAYS the way with his faeces; the first one was firm/solid and then he generally had another 5-10 mins later and it was loose! None of the others were quite as loose as him but generally the first is always firmer with any dog!
  18. My dogs loved the mackeral heads from Summer fishing outings. Fed whole and raw they wolfed them down.
  19. That's a stamp of dog that I like.
  20. This owld fella passed away last Summer aged 14 (this is him at 13) She's still going at 12...
  21. Put the work in and that's the least I'd expect a 1/4 Collie cross to do! No disrespect intended to those with Saluki crosses (lets be honest not generally accepted as being on a par with Collie x when it comes to brains ) but I've judged Lurcher obedience and the things you've asked about can be done by Saluki crosses... though I've never trialled retrieving live to hand!
  22. Mine are always broken to the gun and lots of good advice above re. starting with air rifle and/or starter, friend, distance then closing etc. Once the dog has it sussed that there's sport in it for him/her then they usually wise up. Shame my old dog would happily act as a retriever for shot birds but present old girl is happy to run out and hold pricked birds but not that fussed about retrieving... mind with her at least it saves chasing a lively pricked bird!
  23. look at it the way i woud if you have moor than 1 stud dog whot one do you use the best one if its not to close to the bich he runs moor than one line as well ie..border merls line and there is anuther line in the border but cant remember the dog's name then you got you'r berded line WE WAS SUROUNDED BY THE RUBBISH IN B HAM IN THE 80S HE NEVER WORKED THEM BACK THEN . ONLY EVER SEEN ONE GOOD ONE I'm not trying to stick up for DH as you don't see that many this far North but my mate had a 1st x beardie about 15yrs ago and that was a fabulous worker (though as a 1st x it wasn't th
  24. I appreciate that some folks may not be thrilled when they get tugged for being out and about but it's a sad state of affairs to stoop to gloating cos folks are losing their jobs! I'm sure on reflection you'd not wish any family to lose a job and potentially their home etc. especially when it's the greedy bankers and politicians fcuking up our country not someone in a uniform doing their job!
  25. Unfortunately the Police are obliged to follow up any report made, especially if a 'member of the public' reports that there are guns involved, hence the chopper etc! However, it is only a matter of time before there are so few resources/funds in the Police coffers that they will have to start making decisions on what they respond to.
