  1. Aside from disheartening a young dog (or ending up with a dog that starts yapping and barking with frustration) you could blow it up with exhaustion/over-exertion, if it is keen, the pup won't know when to stop and you could do permanent damage as it is still not fully developed. Best just give it a chance to fill out over the Summer and have a keen fully developed dog ready for next Winter.
  2. Get yourself between the rabbit and the set and then with the beam on walk straight toward the rabbit, if it claps down don't stop just keep walking steadily towards it with the beam on the whole time. If you get right up to it just give it a nudge with your foot and KEEP THE DOG ON THE SLIP, do not slip it; let the dog see what it's missed. If the rabbit lifts before you get to it, again keep the dog on the slip and just track the rabbit back to the set with the beam. The reason for not slipping no matter how easy a kill it would be is to let the dog appreciate what is down the beam. Kick

Since then it's been a fabulous rifle!

I've not had long to mooch around on here so I'm not sure if I'll recognise many members by their user names, though I'm sure I'll recognise one or two people in time. About me; I've been into dogs, ferrets and guns for near on 35 years since my Dad had me out shooting as a nipper and my uncle had me out with his ferrets and terriers. I'm mainly into rabbiting but I do a bit of pest control by shooting pigeons, crows etc with rifle or shotgun. I've been associated with a couple of local Lurcher/Longdog clubs and I've ran a few
