  1. well im sorryto say i gave up on "bailey" his constant whining was just to much for me and i found i was starting to yell at him and i felt i might get a bit to hard on him so i gave him back to the lad that had kindly gave him to me,i feel crap as i hate being beaten but i think i done the right thing before spoiling it .I had stopped enjoying his company so will concentrate on koda as he is apleasure to own and train
  2. went for a wander around my freinds small shoot and bagged a couple of rats scrounging around the feeders i saw quite a few but they were always on the move
  3. i normally give mine ten days but we should really listen to our vets and take heed of proffessional advice
  4. will change my system mate on the retrieving side i do a lot more beating but retrieving issomething i like my dogs to do as i do go out with the air rifle a lot and get asked quite a bit to accompany mates on pigeon shooting days so yes retrieving is a must
  5. dont knowthe answer but hope your dog recovers fully
  6. the black dog is a nice looking beast[zak] i also owned a dog that was a demon on foxes from a very early age and we only ran ourdogs single on foxes up in whins neck of the woods a good fox dog inmy opinion will strike any where it can to get its contact and a clever dog will then dispatch it in a very quick time his best in one night was 5 but we regularly took 2 or 3 a night up there with him then it went tits up for some reason or other with old bill[previously used to watch us taking them!]all this was pre ban of course whin should verify the ammount of foxes upthere in the ,s
  7. mooch is correct on keeping pup on lead whilst throwing dummy koda was trained this way i forgot to mention that bit sorry it was only when i felt comfortable with him sitting still did i take lead off
  8. on the retrieving side of things i was trying to train both pups at same time WRONG! so decided to take them seperately and after a week or so koda sits and waits for the command "find it" bailey however cant control himself and is off like a bullet so another week or so should sort him out i only give them two retrieves per day it keeps them chomping at the bit , what i will say to you is that once owning a cocker myself they can get bored with the retrieving side of things so i would advise you to not over do it mate good luck
  9. i forgot tosay my dogs where collie sire xgreyhound dam not as thread suggests
  10. theres absolutely nothing wrong with a half cross collie greyhound as long as your not into hares in a big way ,all other quarry can be taken with ease with this cross.i owned a few in the past and i rate them just my opinion lads before any arguments arise lol
  11. ok will take that on board bailey has been whining ALOT and it was really getting on my nerves he is as fit as a fiddle so nothing medical going on ive tried a clicker and raised my voice to him to try stopping it then i thought about a water pistol and its definetly started to work! hes a great little dog and his training is as good as koda,s but i dont think i would have kept him if his whining hadnt toned down as it goes riight thru you .But touch wood another week or so should sort himout as he doesnt like being squirted .Any one had this problem ?
  12. lovely little pup mate ,ive a soft spot for cockers
  13. koda is 14 weeks bailey 13 weeks
  14. well done to both of you nice to hear both enjoyed yourselves
  15. well the pups are comming along just fine [fingers crossed] apart from bailey is still whining now and then .they both sit and stay on the whistle both bring the ball back .so i decided to take koda out by himself and give him a retrieve with a rabbit skin on a dummy and BINGO! he loved it and after the initial few bits of fur falling out he retrieved to hand twice and was praised up and then i let him play about so im happy with that
  16. to be honest its not the ideal dog to train for hunting etc
  17. its what separates the dedicated huntersto the wanna- bees lol
  18. im sure we all had bad days mate just keep at it and im sure theres more better days ahead atb billy
  19. nowt wrong with a bit poaching lads done it all my youth and it kept me out of bother [would probably been a jail bird if i wasnt into hunting]
  20. you shouldnt buy black market products when it comes to puppies mate just do the right thing and get dog vaccinated at vets [even tho there a rip off] cos if anything went wrong with black market gear you might end up without a pup .just my opinion mate
  21. both pups responding well to sit and stay commands so will just keep it at that for another week or so then progress to a rabbit skin or a partridge wing for a retrieve or two [they retrieve the ball ok]
  22. you may have a point mate he is chewing every thing in sight cheers
