  1. Not all bull x whippets are that racy!
  2. I am giving up on the PCP's and going retro. I came across some old drawing I did in the ''s at school of customised HW's, tyrolean stocks etc and some old Airgun World posters, and it got me thinking. Just as prefer a side by side shot gun to an o/u or s/a and float fishing to all that alarmed up carp fishing, that I should go back to a well made springer and lavish a bit of time, effort and cash on building what I always wanted as a kid. I have always fancied the AA prosport, but have always had HW's, so I am guessing the best place to start would be a HW97k. But I have been wrong before
  3. nice dogs bud i specially the bull cross Cheers Mate, Not had him long so needs to go some to get into working trim. Always had collie x's and thought I'd have a look at the dark side this time around
  4. Do you mind me asking for a few more details? How many birds down, how many guns and what size of bag do you get? The first year we put down 40 ex lay hens. They fecked off! Second year 75 with a return of 41%. We are in our 3rd year and put down 100 birds. The rain hammered them up here, but good shelter seems to have held them well. We have 2 flight ponds and feed for wild duck and have a reasonable head of wild pheasants too. We shoot 3 to 5 guns. Walking the boundaries first, then 2 drives from the inside to out if that makes sense. Followed off sometimes with a duck flight. Th
  5. They do! They are made up of a mish mash of parts, don't look like much, but the end results seem to please those who made 'em
  6. Collie x 1/4beddie/3/4whippet. lacks a little for size but makes up for it in "spunk". Known as the "grenade" locally. When she goes into a bush, it explodes and things end up dead.
  7. I run a small shoot on 30 acres. The land is fringe moorland with scrub, pasture and rough grazing. Good feeding regimes and habitat managment to hold birds is vital. As you will only be putting small numbers of birds down predator control is more vital than ever. Good neighbours are useful. And if there are shoots nearby birds wandering can be an issue, Just depends in which direction Good luck, Yorkie
  8. I have a HW35 here and has been with me for the last 30 years. I treated it to a venom tune in the late '90's. I have tried to retire it twice in favour of an AA310 and more laterly a HW100k. The PCPs have never had a chance to wear out, for when something needs dealing with, its the '35 that jumps out of the cupboard. On a good day it will still shoot into a 50p at 40 yards. Never let me down, and will never part with it. Its going in the box with me!
  9. yes,and i wouldnt be scared to face up to a crime but would rather get away. and i dont think they run him over just pushed him out the way with the motor if you know what i mean thats alright then, I am sure the farmer would feel better knowing that little gem
  10. today I had half a dozen rats in my fenn traps. Now off to stick 'em in my neighbors mole traps. Let see if he works that one out

Saw him scratching his head this morning! No doubt he will contact a local wild life group like he did when I put a Northumbrian roadkill red squirrel in his birdfeeder near Bolton!

  11. I do all the cooking. Our lass stopped when i took the smoke alarm down. She was using it as a bloody timer! I was laid up for two days earlier this year, had to get up 'cos I would have died of starvation or bloody food poisoning.
  12. Do you want to work him, or just find an outlet for his energy? Before letting him mouch around common land etc make sure his obedience is 100% and stock broken. If family members have lurchers etc as you say, ask them to let you tag along. If he has worked before he will thank you for it. If you are unsure why not try agility training as an outlet/activity for him.
  13. No doubt working breed dogs make good pets. But I agree that it may be the downfall of any of the breeds involved. If its a pet, get it neutered. Any dog can be a good pet, so you dont need to breed from it to carry on with its replacement. Dogs homes are full of suitable curs of any type that could fulfill that role. If you are breeding working dogs, and in particular lurchers, there will be variables in the litter. To us as working dog owners that could be classed as wastage. Anyone who breeds a litter of pups has a responsibility to home them and if you haven't got a place lined up for
  14. 2" too short sounds like a lot to me. Semi autos do tend to be shorter in the stock, but unless you are built like a 6ft gibbon you should not be that far out. Dont forget that when out you will have thicker clothing on and this can add upto a good inch of difference in winter vs summer. Try one of those slip on leather or neoprene but pads. You can always add a little more packing to make it more than 20mm. Once you have added the length you may find that the drop at comb and heel will increase so that you get the sight picture down the rib. Take your gun to a gunshop and try the slip on
  15. Fair do lad! if you had half the sense and experience of these"50 year olds" you would not have asked the question. So trot up to Gunnerside and tell 'em Yorkie sent you. I'll give them a call and tell the lads to put the kettle on
  16. If your only looking to take your dog for a walk, google tourist information for the yorkshire dales national park.
  17. Try Abegavenny! But seriously, If you are that green and stupid, it will come on top! You got no answers last time for a reason. Take that as a hint
  18. are you fitting these tube heaters in the back of the bedding box/small kennel in the run? are there any fire hazard considerations?
  19. As far as I know it will be a limited run. Order early to avoid disappointment. Or get 2 and Ebay one just before xmas for those that missed out
  20. If you have ever handled even domestic pigs you will know how powerful and awkward to deal with. Even our sows who weigh in at around 60kg have sent me flying when I have had to grapple them for treatment purposes, and i weigh in at not shy of 18 stone. So even a 10 stone plus mastif will go flying when its trying to grip a boar thats fighting to survive.
  21. Great place WMSP and great pics. I've shot round the perimeter of it - with permission. when its dark and those lions start roaring, your arse dont half tighten!
  22. cheese eating surrender monkeys
