Reverce Breed Collie Greyhounds
trenchfoot replied to lurcher man george's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Heavily collie saturated lurchers would not suit most peoples expectations of a running dog, But as ratching dogs on hill ground and woodland I've always found them to be the most reliable of partners. I don't think I'd ever be without one, but strangely, pure bred collies are most often the ones that have done my nut in. -
cracking that squire. Is it a flat or hollow ground blade?

these modern high protein foods appear to need a fairly gentle introduction, over a week or more in some cases.
-
Protein has no effect on energy levels - fats do. The dog would have to be in such a state of protein deprivation it looked like a skeleton before protein levels had any effect on energy levels The belief that excess protein causes hyperactivity stems from outdated studies using feeds that relied heavily upon plant based protein. And the short gastric tract of a canine combined with the metabolism ensure that "excess" protein is passed out as sh#te. Usually soft and gaseous.

feed it less. before you give up.

The dog had a high prey drive, and is nothing to do with being game.

why do some just think of saluki hybrids as fen/big land dogs? Mentally and physically they have far more to offer than just stamina and the ability to run clever. -
I've 5 dogs on MIllies Wolfheart stuff. The retired 2 are on the low fat versions and 2 on Salmon and veg. I had my saluki x on it but she dropped condition like you wouldn't believe. I rang them up and they suggested a lower protein, higher carb version from their products. The difference was visible in days. The quality of the ingredients and the "science" behind the choice and preparation of them is leap ahead of the kibble that has previously been available

I don't see what the point would be from a working perspective, there's better herding dogs around these days and faster greyhounds, I can't see any one getting a better mouching dog of old then your modern day sheepdog x greyhound.... and just to note, more so a farm dog than a trial dog, plenty of dogs on farms up and down the country that are demon guard dogs and can use there brain to catch the odd bit of fur and feather From a working perspective, you may well be right. But in the realms of the long gone Smithfield lurcher, and those with an inclination to try to recreate something s

From what I've seen, some of the continental herding/farm dogs such as the picardy, briard and bouvier would be a good start for trying to recreate a Smithfield type. ZX12 edges youngster strikes me as a perfect type stud to put to a longdog saturated lurcher to create the mythical 800 years of breeding type.

Walked the soles out of my haixs after 9 month and leaked after 4 month and not worn in when I finished with them.Funny how some boots are good for some but not for others. Thats mass production for you. To be fair, the soles are the weak point on Haix. They are a tactical boot, so the grip is fairly shallow. But until I get a duff pair, I'll keep using them. However, I am a curious fecker, so my Meindl will be replaced with either Hanwag or Brandecosse.
-
Meindl are very comfy, but I only got 18months out of mine. Between me and the wife we have 4 pairs of Haix Tibet. wet, bog various types of animal crap. 8 plus hours a day 12 months of the year. The oldest pair (4 years) have a very slight leak, but only if they have not been polished. Light as well compared to the meindl.

4X4 That Pull 3.5 Ton There Nae Many
trenchfoot replied to scottish lurcher's topic in 4x4's, Quads & ATV's
Most of those I know who swapped from defenders to Isuzu have regretted it. Most have lunched their gearboxes due to heavy towing of cattle. -
Probably some tapas.

I can think of half a dozen farm curs within 5 miles of here, that put to a longdog saturated line of lurchers that would turn out stock with the attributes, physical and mental, that Burrell claims to have a monopoly of. I like the type, but those "Smithfields and Tumblers" are for romantic fantasists, who haven't got room for a deer or wolfhound.

i,m a bit of a Landy purist and I think, that thing like most modern Landy,s would be left wanting against a proper 101 ,I think the beauty of the original series 1-2-3 and the 101 was the fact they could be repaired at the side of the road if they ever did break down, were as a modern one has to be fixed by a technician with a diagnostics computer and a van full of spare parts, landrover ceased making proper Landy,s after the 200tdi defender, from there on it was all down hill, if you want to go fast get a sports car but if you want to go anywhere get a proper landroverI thought the 300tdi wa
