Reverce Breed Collie Greyhounds
trenchfoot replied to lurcher man george's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I have found those litters bred from 2 heavily collie based dogs do have a large variation in type. But those that persist in continuing to breed that way are after very specific types that suit them and close friends. They also cull hard. My preference is for bitches with a good strong collie based line. The next dog in in line is always a faster, racier type. And I invariably live to regret it. That "need for speed", though more exciting to watch, spoils the type of work I regularly expect from my dogs. But it's each to their own -

Absolute nonsense I rest my case. Show me one , only ONE example of a court case where lurcher men walked if it's so easily defended I've been up before the beak twice, and twice been acquitted. But the ethos of hunting with dogs is not defended in law. The law is driven by politics and public opinion, and our current situation will continually be re-enforeced by fuckwits with cameras and the need for their ego's to be polished. Interesting , we now have a precedent, Pm me the county you were at court in and what date and I'll find the rest, be interesting to see what charge -

We all know its rarely pretty, but it's effective all the same. And if nobody took photo's to provide evidence how would Doris find out? You can get pictures of such activities in widely available books you deluded man They shouldn't be in books either. Attract unwanted attention from anti's and dickheaded wannabee dog men.. JMO But I bet you read it, or bought it yep. Enjoyed the content, but cringed at some of the potential implications. -

The basic ethos of hunting with dogs can and is easily defended. It is the ethics and morality of some that hunt that will continue to make it, at times, almost impossible. -
true TC, but mans been manipulating the natural balance since gods dog died. Usual based upon what we believe to be the most "valuable" creature/environment etc. Grouse moors are not a natural environmental balance, but they are managed for "the greater good". Question is, where do you draw the line?

There are many who will have had to lend a hand to a dog or dogs to bring things to a swift and effective conclusion. The fact that they are filming it rather than dealing with it is a measure of the man.- 154 replies

most folk with lurchers have something like that hung up in their sheds. Usually covered in dust and cobwebs.

not if your honest and tell them what's up with the dog. Like I've says one man's Shite is another's pride and joy very true. I've polished a few turds over they years.

All 22" or under. Some have been no world beaters, but we've had some good sport along the way. The others have been eye opening.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me. If you want to rise money for charity, all chuck £20 in the pot. Have a sweepstake, the pot goes to the winners charity of choice. Then just keep on keeping on.

didn't Typp Ratcher breed a litter of poodle crosses? but at £450, But at £450 they are having a laugh -
I had a one. A second generation half cross. Lamping rabbits and ferreting are far from their forte, though they can do it. Good fun but most are little more than that. If its your first running dog, it would be wasted on you.

Best Lurcher Youve Seen Work/run And Why?
trenchfoot replied to dogmad riley's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I heard of a collie greyhound like that. Hated foxes with a passion and served its owner well, fed and kept in coin. I never saw it run either. but apparently its offspring were equally superb. Cant remember the guys name, but the dog was called Merle. -

according to half on here, it will be their next one. -
use something that is a better heat sink to cover it. And likewise underneath it that reflect heat upwards. There are sheets of stuff that go under underfloor heating that should do the job
-
trying to incorporate it into a kennel floor and make it dog proof was what put me off.

I use Equafleece coats. Especially after a day in the field and they have a long journey in the truck back home. Warm, rainproof and stretchy. Best bit is it wicks moisture away from the dog and dries them out whilst keeping warm.

Just the way I like 'em. And when outcrossed to a savy type running dog, they should be able to find and run down anything you could carry home. And then some
