  1. Get yourself out and about with a lamper, easier said than done perhaps, yet you will learn more in one night, from a competent lamper, than you will from a library full of books.Don,t be fazed about starting out and expect to make mistakes,we all did,ask for a night out local to you and at a later date any decent lamper will allow you to let the youngster tag along for a couple of easy slips.
  2. I used to love drinking and visiting the night clubs in Belfast and the vicinity, the Irish lads would sit in a group getting hammered,we would drink within our limitations,it took an awful lot of practice to find the said limitations, chat to the local female populace and take them for a breakfast in the morning to get over the hangover, all the little b*****ds we left running around there?.did you serve anywhere else Armley.
  3. I take it you have not hunted in Wales? You would do well to find ground with no sheep here. TC There is a vast difference between running a dog through a field of sheep where the sheep are confined and have little scope to move away to somewhere they feel safe, than running them in a vast open expanse, where the sheep are often widely spread about.
  4. Keep the dog on a lead and wait for the farmer to move the sheep to other pasture, only a nugget would run a dog through sheep.

  6. No such animal as a pure bred Bedlington, grafting lads have added their Fells/Lakeys etc to breed their idyll, the KC brigade will never admit what they have added and their pedigrees will never show the real lineage.Any dog can be encouraged to bush to some degree or other, its down to the owners working standards as to what is acceptable.Im of the opinion that an honest bred Bedlington that as an history of genuine earth working terriers behind it,will bush with far more determination and to a far higher standard than many of their purer bred?,cousins, again each to their own,if the dog suits t

  12. Nope, ive seen less than average dogs make very good lamping and third rate daytime jukels.
  13. I learnt my trade local then ventured a few miles into the Dales, the Dales lamping led me to believe i was the dogs bollocks of lampers,i owned and lamped jukels that could and did kill more game than the average lamper, then i lamped on their ground and went home with my tail betwixt my fat arse, the lads that learnt to lamp on land where the quarry was better educated knew more and better technique than their Dales cousins,i picked up the odd technique from these lads and my Dales quest became even more productive, then i realised how easy lamping was and so much less sporting than a daytime fo
  14. Exactly, and where to position himself as well.... Calling in foxes is the test of a good lamper in my opinion! Depends on the time of year. Yea, come November there's not too many that haven't had a lamp on them... Round here they're educated by August Ffs :-( Around here they are lampshy in June, fecking keepers and teenagers.

  16. Easily, they suit his hunting lifestyle, they are more versatile than the average terrier, can find and flush a fox anywhere and i mean anywhere and will vacate or kill the same fox in its lair, they are not suited to everyone and the digging lads would not own one, generally.I keep company with terriermen that would not own them,id not own theirs,i call on them, they call on me,if the occasion warrants.
  17. I don,t understand the" luck factor" in breeding, never have and hopefully never will, luck plays and played no part in any working dog breeding, its a get out clause for a lack of belief in what you have bred,IMO.agree to a certain point Morton , you must've bred a lot of 100 % litters then if no luck was involved and it's all down to breeding ? Edited to add we are talking earth dogs here not bushing dogs ain't we ? All my bushers i expect to work below,id not feed or kennel anything less, ive possibly bred 6 litters of terriers in 30 years,if im to be honest i can hold my hand up and say man
  18. The ground some encounter may lead them to believe they are a lamper,on less productive land they would flounder.A good lamper knows when to release the hound, thats all there is to it.

  20. The world we reside in Socks, seriously it just emphasises the the REAL hunting knowledge on sites such as this .
  21. Gypsies tarmacked gods drive, robbed is ailing mother and sold jesus his donkey.
  22. If it was an old school bred bitch, throwing old school progeny, you would not be able to keep it out of the ground, nothing to do with "my game".the sad reality of Beddy life is that the majority bred is bushing material only, then advertised as genuine "old school" working bred. Its about honesty and not the sale of another pup,how much are they?.
