  1. Nice one Skott. Bit of camping and shooting with the HW95; and drink for the spirit. Nothing like it! Best wishes mate. Simon
  2. I think you might be describing a "Laminated" stock here Billmister. This is a stock made from sections of different coloured woods which are fused, or laminated together, like a multi-layered 'sandwich', before being cut and finished to shape; giving a stock with a pleasing swirl of multicoloured grain. A number of gunmakers offer laminated stocks with the colours you mention. But only for their own rifles. Weihrauch for example, do a particularly striking, multi-coloured version of their standard stocks for some of their rifles. Regards. Pianoman.
  3. Don't understand why they don't pin it. But maybe I will write an updated version. I'm humbled by all the compliments it's received. Pianoman
  4. Not really the best section to be asking for this item gentlemen. Airguns and Foxes are a big No No. Sorry.
  5. Don't use one piece mounts. Don't need them on a PCP anyway. Two-piece mounts allow you to set the scope to the perfect eye relief and adjust spacing for optimum rifle balance. Keep the scope mounted as close to the bore-center as possible. ATB. Pianoman
  6. I agree with Tony. This happens with HW Rekord triggers too. The weight of the trigger alone will fire the rifle after falling onto the sear when the safety button is pressed. Adjust it up a little stiffer... (Christ but you can't help the unfortunate statement sometimes! ) The trigger-adjust that is! Pianoman
  7. This HW77 looks mint, as far as bluing goes at least. What a brilliant bargain! Bit better than a Hatstand Strikerwotchermacallit eh?! Pianoman
  8. Your farmer gets his value out of you eh Mac?!! Well shot mate. Cracking rifle the TX200HC. I love my MkIII .177 All the best to you Mac. Simon
  9. That was a great read from a man who clearly seeks an affinity with a spring rifle. The Holy Grail of Spring rifle shooting lies in the rifle that gels so well at your shoulder it almost talks to you when you shoot with it. No PCP rifle exists out there to convince me I'm missing out on something or shooting with inferior kit. (HW80, HW77, Air Arms TX200 and TX200HC) A Weihrauch HW77 .177 for competition shooting is my next intended rifle. Welcome to the section HW96.5 ( I like that!) Pianoman
  10. You were definitely right to buy this rifle. Try H&N FIELD TARGET TROPHY with it m.Hubbard. 5.53mm head size. They are blisteringly accurate in mine. 10.5 ft/lbs should be very sweet and smooth. No problems. Pianoman.
  11. I'm saying little on this one! .... It'll only be a repetition! Pianoman
  12. Hi Adam. Congratulations on getting your FAC and welcome to the world of high performance air rifle shooting . Somehow, I didn't think you will be looking at FAC HW80s. Not if you like the deep-throated fire extinguisher look of bottle fed PCPs! (You are indeed quite mad!) So you might as well get the ugliest, ugly stick of all......... THEOBEN RAPID. The main redeeming features are, it's tougher than other PCPs and its accuracy is legendary. Almost as good as a Weihrauch HW80 .22 FAC. Just not that tough! Good news and I hope you enjoy whatever you settle on m
  13. I bet you they will!! Mike, in fairness to your recommendations, I went over to Red Beck yesterday and had a test shot with a Hatsan Dominator underlever they have in. It looks great, with walnut, adjustable cheekpiece, ambidextrous stock; it reminds me of the US M-14 rifle; one of my all-time favourites -minus magazine of course. I though it looked so great and handled well, I was seriously interested in buying it, if only it shot as good as it looked and handled. I took it on their test range and....Oh no! Nearly £300 and is designed to match the TX200? Not by a long chalk! Tuning
  14. That is an excellent text-book explanation of MOA Ghilliegod. A lot of novice shooters should take note of this table you have set out and comprehensively covered. Well done indeed! Pianoman
  15. Aye, that's a good point Andy. Still though, the landowner he rents his fields from could put in a good word for our friend here. My own brother is a funny bugger though. He owns a fabulous spread of farmland covering several hundred acres but, won't let me shoot any of the rabbits that are chewing up his tenant farmer's crops. He doesn't want them shot and that's it, end of argument. That's why we have yet to visit his fields mate!
  16. I'm unable to sign. It's been withdrawn from the site. Time we pulled out and let these bloody creatures rule themselves and kill eachother if that's what they want. We are fighting an enemy that calls us friends. f**k em!
  17. The thing is Gary, you can well understand their frustration and anger. The last thing they want is another shooter coming on. But, if you let them talk, rant and rave, whatever and get their frustrations off their chests, they will start to see reason again and give you a chance to speak up for yourself. There will be some who will be totally closed off and there's nothing you can do about that. But, never take it personally. If you can stay the course with them and let them begin to see that you are actually, not responsible for what has happened before, you can use the moment to tell t
  18. Honestly Mike, with a command of a few marksmanship principles, you can take a professionally tuned HW rifle and take on a top dollar PCP with it. And it will be the skills of the shooter that will decide the outcome. The rifles will be well up there. If SMK or Hatsan made a rifle that can honestly do as much as that, I'd buy them too. Best wishes. Simon
  19. "HW rifles are generally not the best to tune"....  That's a beauty! It really is! Simon
  20. Hello Lydford. Both, I'm afraid. FOE. it will blow your ammo off-course no problem. It's near hopeless to get a true zero set-up. It acts as an amplifier to carry sound to ears of rabbits much better than still air. It will carry your scent for miles. FRIEND. It can make stalking easier. It can carry sound away from you. Rabbits are easier to find and close-in on, sheltering in the lee of hilly, sloping ground or grassy banks against the winds. It can be used in your favour to confuse wary quarry as to where you are and flush them to your gun. You just have to know how
  21. Hello and welcome mate. I suggest you try enquiring at York Guns. Just down by the river near the King's Head pub. They'll help answer your query for shooting ground. All the best. Pianoman
  22. Not unless you change the original Weihrauch spring to a more powerful one like a Titan No.2 Michael. If you want superbly reliable accuracy with real punch above sub 12ft/tlbs power. I would go for a Weihrauch HW80 every time. That is a truly fantastic rifle at FAC-level performance. Edited to add: By all means tune your HW97 to sweeten and smooth the trigger, cocking cycle and firing character, that will help improve its accuracy as you hold and shoot it in your hands; but don't try to up the power. The HW97s elder sister, the HW77 does not like FAC-level tuning and I figure it will
  23. Cracking good shooting Daz my friend. Darryl has turned that HW80 into a real beauty and will serve you well. Best wishes with it mate. Simon
  24. I'm not sure what your friend is really after here. Spring or pre-charged action? Smoothing to a sweeter performance or raising the power levels to FAC performance, or both? In order to tune a rifle into a smooth, sweet cocking and shooting cycle, you need a really good quality rifle to begin with. Tuning is both a smoothing refinement of some already-existing characteristical fine qualities the rifle inherently possesses. And raising it's performance at higher muzzle velocities for shooting on a Firearms Certificate. What does he want to do. specifically? Pianoman
  25. A proper tune will smooth out the action and make the rifle a pleasure to shoot with. The HW97 lends itself particularly well to tuning. As for Tanny-wotsit...Why don't you ask them Michael ? Pianoman
