  3. Good man. Yes most of us would do the same but theres plenty who wouldnt too! With a bit of good grub down its neck, worming, jabbing, exersize, socalizing and above all patience that little fella has the potential to be a bloody good dog! Keep us updated please?
  4. Yes mate you can feed them rabbit, its no problem. I NEVER cook them but i agree they should be frozen for a few weeks first. Unless your going to worm every 3 months. All i do is gut them. By 18 months she should of mastered the lamp but it depends how often you take her out, she will master sod all sat in the kennel! What do you want the rabbits for? If they are only ferret and dog food it dont matter if they have been in a hard mouth or not. If they are for your own use, again the odd bruise dont matter. So long as your not selling them to butchers, game dealers, resturants etc i wouldnt wo
  5. Iv finally managed to get myself a cracking greyhound bitch, racing name is clonadrum jess. Shes 2 and half years old and i got her because her previous owner is emigrating to australia. Iv not had her long so she is still lead bound till weve built a decent bond, dont want her buggering off or taking out some old ladies yorki! Lol! Iv already managed to get a better condition on her with decent food, a good combing through and worming and she gets plenty of fuss. Im looking for advice re ferret training her and less importantly muzzles. Do i need to get her a muzzle? She is steady as a rock a

  7. why does it make him at good dog man? you could say hes kind to animals if you want but sometimes as a "Working dog man" you have to think with your head not with your hert. I.M.O a dog with an injurie like that has no chance of a 100% recovery, and to me a dog has to be 100% to warent a place in a kennel. For £1400 and the time youll spend on a dog that wont come good you could buy a well breed pup feed it for a year and spend your time training it to a good standard and at least you know it has as good a chance as any healthy dog of making a worker. Personally I would have shot (
  8. Depends on what size you get mate but easily all night. Iv got 2, i keep one as a spare and use the bigun as my main one. I walk out 3 or 4 times a week and only charge it once a week and im out for 3 or 4 hours each time. Sometimes longer.
  9. I use a motorbike battery wired straight to lamp mate. Its never let me down and it pisses all over the deben efforts!
  10. Chances are she disturbed a nest in cover mate and she got stung a few times but yes wasp stings can be serious for a dog. I always carry a pot with 2 piriton tablets per dog while im out and about in the summer time. Dogs can even suffer from anaphalactic shock same as we can.
  11. Blood coming out the nose after a hard bang on the head with a blunt metal object would tend to indicate brain heamorage. GET OFF THE COMPUTER AND GET IT TO A VET!

  13. Thats good stuff mate. To answer your question: It will click eventually but you can speed the process up in a number of ways. 1) (and my favourite) get him out with an experienced dog and just let him watch the first fewruns. He already knows what lamping is, just needs a few "tips" from an old hand. You walk with him and your mate with his experienced dog find a rabbit and walk towards it till it gets up, experienced dog slips, your dog watches. Next one light up and let the experienced dog see it. He should be pulling like a train and your dog will be thinking "whats he seen". Then slip exp
  14. An extendable lead helps. Throw the dummy far enough away but so that the dog can still reach it. He chases and catches, so far so good = give plenty of praise. Then give your "come here" command. If he ignores you gently pull him back using the lead and giving the come here command again and when he is back to you give plenty more praise. Repeat this and see if he comes back without needing to be pulled. Sooner or later he will do. Keep it fun, if he looks like he is getting bored then pack up and find another game for a while or feed or let him sleep or whatever and go back to it later on. O

  16. Thanks for the replies fellas, very interesting. Im definately going to be getting one when i can. Its just finding one thats a pain in the back passage! Lol! Really i want a pup but i cant find anything aged in weeks anywhere. Any advice re finding one? Kev.
  17. I fetched a young ferret on with goats milk it was o.k. so youv got a good chance with the young. THERES SOME SOFT PEOPLE ON HERE ! dont get me wrong its a real shame what happened to the jill ferret but what use is a 3 legged ferret? its no use as a worker or to itself. dont waste your money on vets bills theve got anoth money already. I would have delt with the jill to stop any further suffering instantlie on discovering such a serve injury. if people on here actually carry out "work" with there ferrets with it being a hunting site and all they should have dispatched plenty
  18. Thats true, dont expect to be buying 25 gallon drums of it! Lol! I got mine from a chemist. Same size bottle as a cough mixture.
  19. JT750 has hit the nail on the head. Its not cured mate, it just didnt bother on that particular day, GET A LEAD ROUND ITS NECK IF YOUR IN SHEEP FIELDS!
  20. Taken today: My jill laying on her back with her kits sprawled out on her belly.
  21. No worries. Hydrogen peroxides good for sterilising fresh, new wounds but once a wound is a couple of hours old i would only use salt water because peroxide will only open it up again.
  22. Once youve run out of that stuff consider getting some purple spray and some cut n heal for future cut and bites. Cut n heal comes in spray, paste or powder form and iv got all 3 plus the purple spray, they all serve a purpose. For example you wouldnt want to use a spray near the eyes etc.
  23. "happened on sunday, looks fine no swelling at all, washed it down and used some stuff the vet gave me for her wounds when she was run over, was like an antibac wash" Sounds good to me, just keep an eye on it just in case and keep using the antibac stuff as you did when she was run over.
  24. Rats carry shitloads of germs, diseases and bacteria and a bite from a rat can easily get infected. A couple of days ago? How does the wound look now? After a couple of days i would expect to see swelling and/or redness which would indicate infection. If its clean, dry and there isnt any swelling i wouldnt worry. Just keep an eye on it. If its red or swollen you definately need to get it looked at. If it had only just happened i would of advised differently but this happened a few days ago. Did you do ANYTHING at the time to clean or treat it?
