To me the problem is what you think is too big?most of the jagdterriers I've seen and worked with are smaller than my russell I think bitches are 12/13 inches and sogs are 13/14 inches only the biggest dogs are bigger and a serius hunter will not breed from bigger ones unless he is interested only in boars hunting or blood trailing. My russell is 14' and 20 pounds when hunting fit and he works well for me,we dont have rabbit dens here,we have porcupine's and badger's sets, and a good amount of rock cracks were dogs need some legs.I need a strongly built dog but I dont come here stating small dog

there were strange black and white fox in that set

I've posted a photo of two jagdterriers I worked with today accounting for 5 of the hardest terrier quarry in another topic.the photo is shit quality, but belive me this dogs are made for the job. talking about dog size a well built dog with bood angles, and a real passion for the job can push himself were a smaller sized can't.

greet reply Steezy bet the man has not seen a badger outside of the tv box.Mr Burns you have the bad abit to talk about things you dont know, and to think the only good things are those from america,If jagdterriers are to big why a big number of terriermen from continental europe use them??

we were out today we digged five "big fox" in a quite big set.Only two ole, fantastic work from my mate's dogs.located with the bar at only 2 feet,as we opened we find 4 bottled in a stop end after we killed them we put the bitch in and accounted for another at 3 feet.Only minor damage on the dogs. I take a photo with the phone but is shit quality p.s can someone helpme to resize

I know a guy who works them underground ,pure kc stuff, and he is quite happy but i've never seen them work.

In my experience when a fox badly damage a terrier or kills it,is in a bad earth, with the fox over a rock or a level or behind a turn where the dog can't move. The biggest problem is the earth not the fox.Given some room even a small terrier can andle a big fox with only minor damage.

I've seen some teckels work, some good some less, they've good nose but I dont like them,I like stronger, more agile dogs with more gameness.I mainly work rock dens and a short legged dog like a teckel is useless. Many years ago a friend of mine owned a Jagd-teckel and it was a good dog. Some teckels are good for boars hunting.

I didnt want to offend anyone putting this link.I only thought there are photos of a breed most of you dont know and it was interesting.I dont think there is something wrong in trials and artificial dens, untill last year we had full contact trials here in Italy too ,the were banned at the end of 2005,and I had taken part to a lot of them.It was good fun when the hunting season was closed to keep the terrier fit and to start young terriers.it was also a way to meet other terriermen and have a few words on dogs and hunting,I've made some good friends at trials. In summer of 2005 I was in Hungary

my terrier live in the house with me,but my 3 boardogs live in a 8 by 5 meters pen I think is 25ft by 15. they have a 50-35 metres run where they are free when I or my dad are at home

if you work rocky ground you need a pickaxe, sladgehammer and steele wedges too and phone numbers of someone owning a digging machine maybe a few kilos of tnt can help

the dog has suffered much worst damage in the past, last year he had 17 porcupine thorns in his muzzle and shoulders and still get the job done.
-
it wasn't a fox, that's for sure, harder quarry but he has been succesfull many times.

on monday morning I decided to try a two holer less than 500 meters from my house. This small set goes down under a big rock and is undiggable as 90% of local earths are.My russell Tappo give a certain mark and was soon in and baing well.he bailed in the same spot for 20 minutes or so than I heard the sound of battle started and the quarry moved but didnt bolt and the dog started baing again and a new fight started.to my surprise the dog come out with some minor damage I encuraged him back in,he went back in and real fight started but no way he could bolt his quarry. After 10 minutes or so he c

Tail docking !! Government petition - please sign!!
valerio replied to huntinggirl's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
The italian governament banned tail docking yesterday Keep on doing like our fathers as allways done. Its our right to ignore stupid laws -
what method was used to kill the badger once he was dug too cos all of the digs on foxes ive done the fox is near on dead once you get to him. pre ban of course  a good wood bat on the head works well

Mute and hard dogs dogs are no good for badger hunting, they will be badly injured or killed. The best dog for badger is a good bayer who can bottle his quarry without too much contact. In my experience and from what I've learned from older hunters 10 or less out of 100 foxing dogs will make the grade on badger.A good badger dog needs nose, voice, courage and most of all intelligence.I have seen stupidly hard dogs owned by stupid hunters coming out of a den without their jaws or without half shoulder

Merry Christmas to all of you and your families

they are not an interesting quarry, but sometimes they can badly damage a terrier as they have impressive teeths and they also carry a lot of infections.

Where do you keep your terrier!? Indoors or out?
valerio replied to Pignut's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
My hounds lives in the kennell all year while the terrier stay outside in the garden during the day and in the house during the night -
beautyfull pup.hope he makes you proud

In my view the problem are breeders not registration,it's down to them to use only good dogs.here in Italy if you want to show hunting breeds you need to have excellent resoult in field trials,I know its not hunting but is still a good thing italian breed birddogs are recognised as some of the best, dominating field trials all over Europe and being exported in a lot of countries included USA.as for German JagdTerrier the club make it impossible to breed from not workers,I work registered jagdterriers and a registered Parson and they are good workers. You have said it,you dont know an hell o
-
you are not right mr Burns, most of the hunting dogs used around the world are from registered breeds,I'll give you an exemple, here in Italy every year the kennell club register more than 20.000 English Setters and I think 95% are used for hunting, more than 7.000 Italian Shenthounds and 99% are used for hunting hares.I ve used for years Kc BRIQUET GRIFFON VANDEEN as boarshounds and they served me well as the Xbreeds I've now. can you think all this dogs are shit?Or are all their owners stupid?I dont think so
