  1. I own a similar tool,5 feet long with a graft head on one end and chisel head on the other end.Its a good tool in rocky grounds to keep holes straight and dislodge stones.
  2. I own a Beretta 390 semiauto 12,an old Bernardelli s/s 12,a Browning Bar 30.06 semiauto and a remington 700 in 308 with heavy barrell and scope. here in Italy once you have a gun permission and an hunting licence you can own how many guns you want. .22 are not allowed for hunting.
  3. I've not criticised someone.I only asked a question as the only foxwarren dog I've seen looked too weak. I've read his book and enjoied it.If his dogs are that type it's not what I like,I like well boned dogs with a bigger head.
  4. I think everything is the right answer
  5. Sunday for the first time I saw a chapman breed russell,I was uninpressed. It was small and thin, his chest was definitely small, small head and it looked really weak.An old hunter that was with me said "Is not the same breed as leo(his dog r.i.p) and your dog?" when I answered "yes it is" he looked at me as I was joking.I haven't seen the dog work but it seem to me not enough strong for the job.I like small dogs but with some bones and a good head. Is all the line of this type?how they work?
  6. I don't know the people involved but if someone has done the same thing to me and to my dog then I will be outside his door now with a good bat and some friends and I'll have my dog back. No respect for this b*****ds.
  7. I found this link on french sitelink
  8. You are lucky, open fields and diggable earths, yesterday morning I was out and I spent all the time swearing between rocks, caves and incredibly thick mediterranean bush. The worst thing was the dog having no less than 30 porcupine thorns in varous parts of his body .
  9. My uncle used to take his 3/4 mounths hold hounds in a small field where he had previusly put a well alive domestic rabbit. The pup start following him with eyes but will start using his nose.Only do this a few times and only when the pup is really young or it will catch the rabbit everytime.
  10. Happy for you, good to see young boys interested in hunting.Look around,if there is vixen there are dens around.search for it and good luck
  11. I can't understend what is the problem,If you want to use your dog only on small quarry start taking it out at 5 or 6 mounths. If it's a terrier worth the name he will show interest from the start. In Italy we say a "good day can be seen from the morning". I dont rate rabbits or rats as terrier quarry .Terrier are born to be used underground.
  12. we have loads of them here in Italy, not an interesting quarry but sometimes they can give the dog some nasty bites.I've never hunted them as I live on the hills and there are no coypus here,so it's only what I've heard from friends living on the coast.
  13. Small xbreed dogs quite similar to todays jack russells.the first terriers were imported here from England in about 1880 by the noble family of Ginori-Conti who gave them to keepers and farmers to control the pests on their land.they were crossed to local small dogs, there were cross of this type in every farm. The first jagdterriers come here in the late 70s-early 80s and they were preferred to local dogs cos they were harder and stonger.
  14. I take this articole on the net. "The quills of crested porcupines serve as an effective defense against predation. When disturbed, they raise and fan quills to create an illusion of greater size (Nowak 1991). If the disturbance continues, they stamp their feet, whirr quills and charge the enemy, back end first, attempting to stab with the thicker, shorter quills (Nowak 1991; Grzimek 1990). Such attacks have been known to kill lions, leopard, hyenas, and humans (Nowak 1991)."
  15. @Steezy : no,I only own cross breed boarhounds and my russell.I dont have digital photos of porcupine but you will find on the internet serching for "istrix cristata" the only place in europe where porcupines live is Italy, they were imported from Africa by the ancient Romans
  16. try again, shit photos taken by phone
  17. I've found only a few photos coz I dont own a digital camera and I've only photos made by friends or with the cellphone photos
  18. I start saing that terrier work is very rare here and only a few hunters still do it mainly by family tradition. Here in tuscany the main quarry for underground work has allways been porcupine, cos it make good food. due to the warm mediterranean climate is not easy to find fox underground,it happens only in december and jenuary when its colder or in the cubbing season.Terrier work is still done as it was done a century ago,we allways try every thing we can to bolt our quarry, and belive me bolting a 15 kilos porcupine covered in 1 foot long thorns is not an easy task for a dog.Porcupines allw
  19. I'm happy that the topic has been restored an I hope it can become a place to share different hunting stiles from different countries. On the other side I think many users of this forum are not ready for this and will react in a wrong way .if someone is interested I can start sharing my experience of terrier work here in central Italy and the same thing can be done by hunters from other countries.
  20. can you post me about your contest,I've been in hungary 2 years ago and last year I've been in Serbia for full contact trials on fox,I really enjoied meeting terrierman from all europe
  21. I want to buy some nets. Can someone tell me wher I can buy and have it delivered to Italy.Only interested in big and strong nets
  22. I think Spoof you are not an hunter, you don't know one hell of a thing about terrier work, you have not even read the last two pages of the topic ,we were talking about jagdterriers and working terriers size.
