  1. Its been done for years with every , working, fighting, racing animal since man bred for particular desirable traits in their animals. Be it dog, gamefowl, horse or ferret. If i had a bitch of any breed of dog that had all the right working traits i was looking for and her son was strong in all the same defining traits the mother had, i would definetly breed this way for the simple reason that i would dramatically increase my chances of locking in these particular traits in the offspring. Some might argue that you just have to find an unrelated stud dog that is strong in said traits your br
  2. Working bred dog. Toolk to all apects of rabbiting, day and night like a duck takes to water. If your after a dog for rabbits in small fields especially, that will give 100% every run you wouldnt go far wrong with a working bred whippet.
  3. Looked a fine animal, sorry for your loss mate. Some dogs spend most their long lives staring out through the bars of a pen and then die, by the sounds of it she had a great life while she was with ye. A.t.b for the future
  4. I completely agree that a white dog is not to be disregarded as a good dog because of its colour. I ran a white dog and would love to have another like him but we are just talking pros and cons here not the be all and end all of a good dog so If I was to pick a pup from a litter and the pup with all the best physical and mental attributes was white ide pick it but all things equal ide take a darker coloured dog. We only have to look at nature itself to see the importance of camafluage to a hunter/predator. The only white pedators I can think of live where there is snow. Or look at the colo
  5. Me too deerman. And id own him again if he was still alive. Wouldnt hold it against a good dog. But having said that, some of the places i hunt, im not supposed to be there and have had to slink off into the shadows a few times when the garda or security have showed up. For me, life is just less hassle with a darker coloured dog. Probably for the same reasons i dont wear a wear a white jacket out for a nights hunting
  6. Only pro i can think off are if your out in the evening mooching and its getting dark, you can still see were your dog is. The only con is , that you will be a little less stealthy at night in regards to both quarry and angry farmers.
  7. I would also be willing to buy a dog or preferably bitch thats working but hasnt made the grade as a shooting dog for reasons like poor retrieve, hard mouth ect. Them faults wouldnt bother me once the dog wasnt afraid of tight hard cover and had good recall

  19. hows he coming along Brenner ? he went to a more suitable home. I wanted him for working cover and the odd bit of ground work being a bonus but his style of bushing was sluggish and mute although he he had started travelling earths so he was starting to look like he was being wasted on me

  23. If you can run a hose from your tap out your window or better again an outside tap. Face the buisness end into his pen by tying it up on his pen gate or if you have a sprinkeler that sprays foreward just put it on the grnd facing into pen. Every time it whines blast it till it stoppes but dont let the pup see you at all so as far as pup knows he is not getting your attention , be it postive or negative attention, and be on the ready to blast it the second he makes a noise and stop the second it stoppes so the pup has no trouble asossiating the negative response. this has not failed me yet, ho
