  1. Eh? That makes no sense! haha Assuming the barrels are the same bar size of course.
  2. You're feeding good bunny and woody meat to ferrets? Are you mad? Nice shooting there mate, I had a great unexpected night last week, was staying at a campsite near where I was doing my DSC1 (now all passed just waiting for the certificate to drop through the door) and was chatting to a guy in the bar. Turns out he owned the campsite and had a big bunny problem. I happened to have my Theoben Scirocco in the boot, so offered to help him out. Several hours and much stalking around later, 20 bunnies on the deck. Four were bin fodder due to falling into the pond or onto a rubbish hea
  3. .22 blanks? Excuse me being silly, but if it fires .22 then why call it a .380? Or am I being too literal? So all those people who have bought these for legitimate purposes have to hand them in, and will receive no compensation for them? A hammer is dangerous if you choose to use it that way, and in fact doesn't need any modifying first. So are the police going to decide that hammers are a prohibited weapon and sieze them all without offering any compensation? What a complete bunch of toss! Sorry, but it makes me mad! I don't have one, I have no need for one, but if I
  4. The laser boresighters are fine for full bore rifles, where you are firing over a long range. For an air rifle, it is more than likely they'll actually make your life more difficult! Remember that the laser is a straight line from the barrel, whereas the pellet will always fall below that line! So if you put the cross hairs on the laser dot at 30 yards, the pellet will always fall a considerable distance below that. As stated, the cheap ones will not provide a very tight beam, so they aren't much use at anything over very short ranges. If you really must buy one as a gadget then you ne
  5. Read the posted lump of legislation again. It is perfectly legal for someone aged 14 to 17 to OWN an air rifle, but they are not allowed to BUY or RENT one. You can however be given one as a GIFT! So the responsible adult bought the air rifle, and gave it to you. Where the money came from is neither here nor there!
  6. The 5.56 has thousands of existing weapons that use it. The 7.62 would mean re-equipping most of the NATO armed forces. Knowing how the UK MOD are about spending money on the right kit, my money says that your average Joe isn't gonna get a nice spangly 7.62 any time soon!
  7. Is that a 185? Whatever the engine, if it's a runner and a goer then £350 is a bargain! Wish I could pick em up like that! Get a rail on the front to shoot off and you're sorted!
  8. Unfortunately the Geneva convention forbids the use of the round that would make sense! There's no reason an expanding round will do much more damage than a jacketed round fired down an oversized bore so that it tumbles!
  9. For foxes, forget the .17 calibres, HMR and Hornet. IMHO (and that of quite a few people I know who are vastly more experienced than I) it's just not got the downrange energy delivery you need to reliably dispatch foxes at reasonable ranges. For sure if you're close up it's fine, but then so is a .22LR, with few of the drawbacks (such as an almighty sonic crack from the muzzle for starters, and more expensive ammunition too!) I would personally go for the .243, a very capable foxing round, and if you fancy a go at deer you're covered, .240 being the minimum calibre for deer in England.
  10. Hope that doe wasn't feeding on the rape, tis deadly poisonous to them! Good pics though!
  11. This is true, but then with a .17 you can't feed it subsonics and shoot things without being heard. As with anything, it's horses for courses. The .22 allows you to be more discrete. The .17 you will never get away from the muzzle crack. I would argue there's good reasons for having both.
  12. Nothing illegal. There is a provision for using "any reasonable means" to dispatch a wounded animal to end the suffering in the most expeditious way possible. This can be anything from a foot on the neck to suffocate the animal right through to a 12 bore solid slug. If you'd had the rifle in the car and weren't on the way to somewhere to shoot it then an offence might have been committed, but as you went home and fetched it specifically for the purpose you were legal. Not sure the "not in the public interest" argument would hold any weight. I can think of many people who've been convicted
  13. Don't think the bunnies have the same idea of "pretty" or "ugly as we do. I'm ugly as sin and still get plenty of bunnies anyway! What weight are those though? I kind of like the look and idea of the multi skirted pellets, but not sure if the science and aerodynamics adds up!
  14. Liam, hope your progresses better than mine. Somewhere along the line one of my referee forms disappeared, not sure if it was in Royal Mail's system or in the TVP system. I phoned after 3 weeks to find out what was happening, only to be told that they are still waiting for the paperwork! So got my second referee to send another form, recorded delivery this time, let them try and lose that one!
  15. Oli, what's the gun in your picture? I've seen one before but can't remember what it's called!
  16. That's great Span, thanks for clearing that up! I'd assumed that was the case but it's good to have it confirmed.
  17. Common misconception, they don't have to adhere to any particular standard, the law just states "of a similar standard of security". The BS just makes it difficult for the police to argue as to the security level. A decent 4 gun BS safe shouldn't set you back much more than £100, sometimes less. It starts to get expensive when you look for FAC safes as they need a separately lockable section for ammunition, though this is a good idea for sg cartridges it's not a requirement!
  18. Matty, that's some good shooting! What are the first 2 scores though, can't see them in the shadow! What calibre/rifle/sights etc. were you using?
  19. Why are you fitting a lamp clip to a 12 inch tube? There's not much point fitting a lamp to a bazooka, it just gives your position away to the enemy! Guessing that's a typo. Guess it depends what lamp you are fitting. The lamps I've used have always come with their own clips so never had to buy one separately.
  20. I don't actually have one of those, but I have several LED Lenser torches, and in general they are extremely good. Great build quality, massive light output and a load of battery life. The only thing I've not seen on any of them is a remote switch, but I'm sure a little ingenuity could fashion one. Not cheap, but worth every penny imho!
  21. Is a .270 "too much" for a fox? Well, no, if you hit it with the .270 it will kill it. You can only kill something and there's no such thing as "overkill". However, the .270 will tend to go through, so you need to be extra careful about your back stop (though of course you should do that anyway whatever you're shooting) The main drawback with the .270 is not at the receiving end, but at the firers end. It is a powerful round, and so gives you a pretty good shove in the shoulder. If you're used to airguns then the kick from the .270 might be a bit offputting to start with, and you w
  22. .22LR HV stuff isn't normally that unreliable. The target guys will make one hole groups at 100 yards. The only thing is that at the extremes of their range they can be very prone to windage, a slight variation will make a huge difference.
  23. Sorry, not being clear. The permission is nearly 100 acres, but I'm not happy about loosing off a load of rounds around the ponies at the moment, as the mares are either in foal or have just foaled. By the time I get round to thinking about culling they should all have foaled and the foals will be a few weeks old, so it won't be an issue, but I would like to get my kit zeroed in beforehand.
  24. Ok, have applied for a SGC coterminous to my FAC. Just one thing I was wondering. On the SGC you don't need to state calibres/bore sizes, so is it a case of you can have as many as you like on there, or is there a limit of some kind? I know the FEO sometimes sets a limit on the number of guns in a cabinet, but does this apply to guns held on SGC as well as FAC? I would like, over time, to have a few shotguns of different bore's, just wondered if there could be a limit on this.
