I think the reason there isn't many around is that if you've got a deer/grey bitch then you like a dog with a bit of height so aren't gonna want to put a 19" whippet over her. I'm sure they could make handy dogs. Not only that, there's also the fact that in the last 15-20 years alot of the younger guys have come along with the bull x, and in my opinion that's really when the whole mess regarding dogs being tried too young and ruined, sold, swapped or whatever started. I 'm sure that many of the older members of this site will know of and remember more than a few Deer/grey x whip/grey

is lamping hares easier than daytime?
shaaark replied to craigluckyjihad's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Said it before ,and I'll say it again, don't care what or how other people call it, fun, sport, testing their dogs, whatever, hunting in any form is exactly that, hunting. To me it's never been 'sport', as that implies straight away that you're doing it for fun, and if I wanted to see sport I'd go to the nearest boxing tournament. As to whether hares are easier to catch on the lamp, yes I agree that in some areas hares are more easily cought on the lamp than in daytime, but there are also plenty of places where you need a very good dog to catch em on the lamp. -

Because they are the ultimate prey !! And should only be run by Saluki Hybrids !! They should never be lamped or run by inferior hounds !!! Cheers. lol -

Understand exactly where you're coming from, and agree entirely with you, but common sense and the general public, especially when it comes to anything rural or wildlife oriented, don't go hand in hand, sad to say. Been banging my head against a brick wall on this subject to many of my family and friends for years, to no avail lol, anyway, have a good new year, a l b shaaark -

just got back in from 200bar fill, didnt take long lol i shot four mags through it , and its inbetween 100-150 bar, so say 125bar lol i think you could possibly sneak an extra ten shots out of it. they recomend you fill to 232,but as it hasnt got a reg i thought id just fill to 200. the 10 shot group i did at 35 yrds, 8 of them u can cover with 5p coin, two are either side, i put it down to wind, because it was slight breeze too, but when i got home i noticed the bloody silencer was loose-ish. enough to make a wobble noise, so il just have to take it back out tomorow lol one thing iv noticed

1st lurcher do's and dont's any tips
shaaark replied to newcomer88's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Do pick a pup and train it to to be safe with livestock, but be very careful where horses are concerned. Don't leave your dog unatteded with your staffs, could easily end disaster in the blink of an eye, and no, I'm not anti staff -
Doesn't look like a saluki x to me, and it says at the end of the clip GREYHOUND hunting. I don't hate any particular x, but that dog was too fast to be a saluki x!

Im not sure what was going on that dog just went and caught that big hare with out chasing it around a paddock for 1/2 an hour whats the go? There's no saluki in it

shaaark replied to coney clucky's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
i think that the amount of bad dogs about these days is down to the fact that there are so many bad dog men about. imo the quality of dogs has changed over the years and not for the better, the true lurcher man is as rare as a good dog these days. working dogs is more a hobby these days for most folk. -

The fact that you've said you want the ultimate killing machine and caught more game than anyone else on here, and that you've gone through a lot more dogs and money than some, tells me that you are indeed a FOOL! -

Fascinating and very interesting to read about the things that used to be allowed and enjoyed in years gone by. I enjoyed reading that -

Cheers scrappy.. heres another we bred And some more deerhound crosses, and some more first crossers, all bred from our stud deerhound Love em . My bitch has turned out really greyhoundy with a smooth, but dense coat, and great feet. I keep threatening to put pics up, but still haven't got round to it . Will do so as soon as possible.

That the way we bred some of them, sorry.. This one was 29 inches, killed rabbits so easy it was laughable, took over 100 roe in one season, minced fox and did quite a few hares in his time..and, threw pups to die for.. cracker
