  1. Stay off the drugs fella ?
  2. Couple of good points there. Got a couple of mates, and a couple of others that used to live in my old area, that have owned and worked some of the 1/4, 1/8 and 1/16th bred stuff. Some of them directly from george newcomes, the rest bred from those dogs. All of them good ALLROUND workers. Others that I've heard of, in different parts of south wales supposed to be good digging dogs. No pure kc types though
  3. Lol, agree entirely with you mate. I can appreciate all sorts of terriers really, and seen plenty working and catching allsorts over the years, but digging AINT my thing! ?
  4. ?!!! ............. I'm already expecting 'someone' to be along very shortly, with a tirade of abuse and preaching. Plummer x beddy, what the f**k is that all about?! ......... ?. Cracking looking pups ?
  5. Ah right, was told he lived in west wales ?
  6. Didn't jeff feneroli breed working welsh terriers? A mate of mine's brother went to look at a litter of border terriers that he bred, must be about 25 years ago now, and mentioned that he also had some welsh terrier pups there as well. Camarthen I think, west wales
  7. Well I agree and disagree with some of this bill. I've owned a few pure whippets, and a few dogs with a fair amount of whippet in, and NONE of them yapped when in pursuit, ever. Personally, I believe it's not any particular type or cross or whatever, but purely frustration more than anything else. Age of starting the youngster, proximity to cover when slipped, and more than anything else, in my opinion, starting them alongside another dog. You see it even when just walking two youngsters together, one will always try to be in front, competition sort if thing
  8. How many of those dogs do you still own? I remember you starting your mali x at about 5 months or a tad younger
  9. Not disagreeing with you. Just saying most dogs I've heard of that yap, have been started far too young, when they've not got enough speed, or the mental maturity needed. Anyway, how's this for odd behaviour? My old dog, without fail, after a break from lamping of about two weeks, would throw the 1st rabbit he caught up into the air, before catching it when it came back down before retrieving it lol. After that, he'd settle and be on normal behaviour
  10. I think that's the case with most yappers, to be honest. With most crosses/types. I have no problem whatsoever, in waiting for a youngster to mature a bit, physically 'and' mentally, before I start them. I'm in no rush ?
  11. Think I've told you before nl, I've not seen loads of beddy x's at work, but NONE of them yapped on anything lol
  12. You know what though mate, you're dead right. The amount of times WE ALL MISINTERPRET things is unreal lol. And, just as an aside, we're all still in the SILLY SEASON! Lol ?
  13. Thinking about the years gone by, I think there's a few reasons as to why I didn't really appreciate salukis or heavily saluki blooded coursing types. In no particular order lol, I never had permission anywhere, until the last maybe 8 or 9 years, so I wanted my dogs to catch asap. I've always needed and liked a fast type of dog, even for rabbits. I know plenty of people will say 'you don't necessarily need so much speed just for rabbits'. Almost every area I used to frequent years ago, you certainly did, and even more so now on some of our perms. And I think, given those facts,
  14. Ah, I get you now, my apologies fella. Still tired from a very broken night's sleep when I made my earlier reply lol ?
  15. Agree with that t c, my old dog was a one off for me. Definitely my fastest dog, but you wouldn't believe it just going by his shape and size. And probably caught me more hares than my next 3 dogs after him combined
  16. Wasn't answering for him, just giving my opinion that I thought it was a strange choice of dog if someone isn't into whippets or whippet sized lurchers. ...........but .......... see below Now you've made it clearer as to why you chose your new pup, and very nice too by the way, it makes alot more sense. Like I said in my earlier post, I hope you have some decent luck with this one ?
  17. I dunno? I genuinely wish him some good luck with it. But it seems a strange choice of dog for someone that is so anti whippet. Me, I love the little feckers
  18. Interesting turn around of opinion socks. A whippet is too small, but a whippet sized lurcher isn't! Hmmmm? Nice pup, good luck with it
  19. My dog was a lurcher, not a grew. And horror of horrors, he was sired by hancocks taffy! Lol. But not from hancocks kennels. His dam was a very greyhoundy bitsa. But I jest not, that old dog had some serious speed. Definetely the fastest dog I've ever owned, and I've owned a couple of whippet/greys. To be honest, he looked too bulky to be really fast, but he shocked more than a few people, one guy in particular that used to be on this site that bred whippets. His take off speed was blistering, and up to about 400 yards, then he'd visibly wilt quite dramatically. No good if you wanted to b
  20. Was just about to ask the same question lol
  21. And then you've got dogs, without saluki blood, with so much natural speed, that they're on a hare in seconds, and not from kickups, and the hare, even after it goes up another gear, just can't shake the dog off, and gets caught. When I used to go regularly with my best dog, slips of between 30 - 50 yards would've been the norm, and he caught loads. Seen plenty of coursing dogs, and dozens and dozens of coursing vids where the dog is slipped as soon as the hare gets up, and the dog still gets dragged around for 3, 4 or whatever minutes
  22. Ran my big bulky dog with a few lads that thought they had fast dogs, he left them in his wake from start ?
