  1. As above, we have a greyhound section in the country interests section. About time there was a whippet section
  2. Yep, each to they're own. But how can you tell if a pup is going to be a good worker when it's only 8 - 10 weeks old? Said before and I'll say it again, can't stand chocolate coloured dogs, whatever the breed ?........... ?
  3. Daniel, I thought you liked those chocolate ? things?! Lol ?
  4. Straight2hand is the fella. Dog looks a cracker ?
  5. Think there's a fella on here that has 3/4 grey 1/4 fell hound. Looks like a good dog, and what from I remember, it's obedient etc as well
  6. Nice pup that mate, alot like his sire. Should make a good size ?
  7. I should add that I am NOT the best dog trainer by far, but I also find when retrieve training with a pup, don't be in a rush to take the ball, dummy or whatever, off the pup, and let them have a good rag about with it, they normally come back to you with the dummy for another go, and you're then already halfway there. Works every time for me. I know this isn't really answering your question, but maybe of some help in the future. Good luck mate ?
  8. As bird, and yourself, have said, alot of lurchers can get bored with retrieving training very easily/quickly. As pups I only do 2 or 3 retrieves then stop, a couple of times a week when they're roughly 10 - 12 weeks, and that's it. Then until they start working I'll probably give them 1 or 2 retrieves every couple of weeks or so. I think retrieve traing is THE most common part of training which is massively overdone. My best dog for retrieving though, would retrieve NOTHING, and I mean nothing, until I started working him. Then every rabbit or hare he caught would be retrieved straight b
  9. And lurchers with beardie in are shit, unless they're bred down from dogs which he owned
  10. Floyd, how's the dog bred mate? Looks in great nick ?
  11. Nope, aint late for anything. Just cos fields have been cut doesn't mean you HAVE to go out
  12. What's late about it, it's only 1st september tomorrow?!
  13. Nice looking dog that mate ?. What's the breeding?
  14. Yeah that's another that I also had in mind ?
  15. 34" at one year old?! Is it a first cross or generation bred? ? Yep, would love to see pics myself ?
  16. Thanks for the replies lads. I''ll have a bit of a rethink ?
  17. Do the beans have to have the breeding behind em, or will any old heinz do?
  18. Ah right, get it now. Yeah I fancy a light rifle for walking through the woods, and prefer underlevers, so was thinking of the 57. Never shot one though ?
  19. Thanks for the replies lads ?. Si brown, you've lost me there, wouldn't the pellet be secure once the pellet/breach loader is pushed back in securely?
  20. Hi lads, as above, one of the more regular posters on here mentioned the Hw57 a while back. Was wondering about one of these myself, just for wandering around a few woods, and some close to medium range shooting, about 7 to 30ish yards. Without getting into the calibre debate, are they as good as each other to shoot, due to the extra weight of the cocking lever?
  21. I'd say don't listen to your mate. Owned a couple, and seen a few more, and all were very good dogs. Some people slate them for having poor feet, but to be honest, I've not seen one with bad feet. They aint going to have a coat like a collie cross, but it doesn't stop em getting into cover when in persuit, and they're as keen, or keener than other types, to run anything. Maybe a slightly smaller type might be better for just ferreting, but I did alot of lamping years ago with mine, and found them very versatile ?
  22. Seven foot six then, tall but not big
  23. Read this thread so far, and I would say there's a fella on here, 'mud' I believe, has the type, or very similar to what you're after. Not my type of dog, but look very good dogs if that's what you're after. Don't know if he's breeding, or got pups, but that's the type he has. Maybe give him a shout
