  4. If the lad takes the dog on it will get treated better than his girlfriend and get more time spent with it aswell, the lad is genuine and looks after his dogs too the best standard. Look up some of my other posts, his last dog (which was a rescue aswell) is in some of them (staff x whippet) sadly got run over just before christmas. with regards too the feet, im no lurcherman so i dont know, is the flat footedness a problem ?! atb Molie Fair play to your mate if he looks after his dogs and prefers re homing rather than buying a pup,if its for a pet/mooching dog might be ok? woul
  5. The thing about Beddy x's is they are pretty consistent,if the parents are the right sort you arent taking much of a chance with the pups, slightly limited but they arent one of the most popular lurchers for nothing. Better allrounders can be produced by crossing to other types, the best dogs ive ever seen without Saluki blood were a mixture of Beddy/deerhound[supposedly]/greyhound and collie, more 3/4 x's than half x's were used to create them, but this type of breeding is much more hit and miss imo.
  6. In truth i think the operative word here is "free" or so you said, honest opinion is youll try the dog for a while it will be shit and end up with a bullet or passed on,i dont think for a minuite you would have parted with money for this dog. Prove me wrong and keep everyone posted on its progress, for the dogs sake i hope it works out but i doubt you'll have it in a few weeks. ps those front feet look terribly flat.
  7. Honest opinion mate i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole, scroungeing dog at best, why take the risk with plenty of purpose bred pups about? And if it is an Alsation x it cant have been schooled very well with shit recall?
  8. Thought i recognised it,some good hunting up and down the whole valley, cant keep them out of the bank though, not for the fainthearted terrier that ground. Got a cracking invitation that day and enjoyed some sport in the Dales a while after with MB,the good old days.
  9. Think i went on that joint meet? was it at Wortley? Good day out as usual with the pennine.
  10. Thanks lads, she was a very good bitch and i can honestly say she never let us down,we bred her a couple of times to my Lakey dog, unfortunatly the pups were plagued with bad luck, the first litter only one bitch was born alive, similar to its dam only a touch stronger, she was a bit hard to be honest even from a young age,we gave her to a keeper who only needed a dog for the occasional dig and she did the job well for a couple of seasons until a rock fall killed her and a dog from the second litter[dont know why 2 were in wasnt there myself?] Similar bad luck followed the pups from the second lit
  11. Put this on another forum, this was some bitch by anyones standards. My mate J phoned me one Sunday morning, his dog terrier "Grip" was missing when he got up that morning,at first he thought someone had stolen him but a phonecall from another friend saying he had found a dead terrier by the side of a local road and it looked like Grip confirmed he had escaped by himself,we think he was headed for some local earths we worked regularly and knowing the dog he probably was. "J" was heartbroken,Grip was a good honest worker,a chocolate Lakeland bred from DR's dogs,a little big for gen
  12. Thanks for the info jono, but the reason im interested is my lads has a very useful beddy/whipp/grey bitch, hes thinking of using a Saluki hybrid stud when he breeds her,not planned for the near future but we think this could be the way to go. Just dont know anyone with this actual x and would like a bit of info on the type. Atb steve.
  13. Personally i would be going out with a dog thats 100% let the bitch watch the dig, when you break through to the dog block all ways for quarry to move put a garden fork in front of the bitch and let her in to bay as long as she stays, after 20 mins or so of this remove the fork and let the dog mix for a short time, after this find a nice shallow earth that is 100% holding net all holes and as soon as you hear her baying try to get down asap and let the bitch know you are comming to get her,it seems to me as if the dog hasnt been dug to at all and is leaving the quarry looking for her gaffa (YOU)
  14. The pup im bringing on is starting to do his job, nothing spectacular, just a couple of rabbits and a fair retreive cheered me up no end after having a very bad 2009.
  15. Im not sure of the dates really, given it some thought and spoken to another mate and we think the bitch was sold around 1987/88,a member has pm'd me and said to check out theworkingbedlinton.co.uk,ive joined but failed to find anything? but im no computer buff probably doing something wrong? I doubt its the same bitch, unless you have the dates wrong? she would have been around 3yrs old in 1987,and never bred from up to that time.P3161 knows the lads who bought her [i knew that]and who ended up with her but these lads are out of the game and weve lost touch with them,it would have been nic
  16. Rain Nice looking bitch mate, any chance of a bit of info on her performance? Genuinly interested in this type. atb steve.
  17. All the lads who would shoot this PUP have probably flattned some of the best dogs they would have ever had,I only ever bred worker to worker, everything well tested, and i wouldnt expect my dogs to be much good at 16 months. Its the modern way "quick fix" 16 months and you lot want to flatten it? no f****n idea whatsoever.
  18. You would be pretty safe with a collie/grey x whippet/grey,would stil stay clear of heavier smaller pups though,i would prefer this x to 3/4 grey 14 collie myself, atb.
  19. Theres a lot of rubbish talked about collie crosses on here, you dont want whippet in the mix close to the collie or you could end up with short heavy dogs that couldnt catch a cold,no offence intended but lets keep it real for once.
  20. Its probably better to say "has done reds in 12 minuits" occasionally it does happen that quick, but when youve done a lot of digging a statement like that screams bullshit.
  21. Sounds like the only viable way would be blasting,if you can find a decent guy who knows his job you would be surprised at their accuracy and maybe not that expensive compared to raising the levels? just a thought.
  22. Theres other problems with having dogs the same age, they both get old at the same time, not a problem if youre heartless of course, but if you only have room for 2 its better to stagger them imo.
  23. I doubt the expense will come into it mate, nobody will want to quote for it,even if you use machinery its an elbow/wrist killer. Just out of interest whats the channel for, maybe theres a better solution if its a building problem?
  24. Glad you got him back mate, nothing worse than losing one and not knowing whats happened to them.
  25. Daks Not having a go mate, just thought you seem to fit the steriotypical picture the anti hunt lobby want to portray dog lads as,no need to explain yourself. Just for the record ive seen wire streched between trees to purposly damage dogs,i think the culprit was a Pakkistani doctor that bought a large house and grounds we used to hunt in yrs ago. Ive had farmers/keepers in my family, none of them ever shot hunting dogs, sheep worriers yes,but i find lads that grow up on council estates and then become farmers/keepers realise we dont still live in the dark ages, when you could be flogg
