    Dont underestimate how focused a terrier can be and think it wont follow or will let go if underwater some wont. When my old [long dead] warrior was around 18 months old i was walking him along a canal with my mate and his dogs,we came across a dead fox on the bank,the terrier pups found it and ragged it a bit,i thought it would be a good idea to weight the dead fox down and throw it in the canal because we walked there regularly and didnt want the dogs ragging on a rotting fox,i wired some concrete to it and threw it in the canal,we put the pups on the lead and walked off,when we were a f

    Foxhunting back to normal,greyhound coursing very very outside chance,the hunting laws will be used to the full and most likely penalties for poaching,coursing without permission or ordineary lads digging will be increased,its the smart move,they can weigh one off aginst the other.     At one time there were some well bred,honest chocolate coloured terriers about,maybe there still is? Some well known lads had blacks that threw a few choc's out here and there and my mate had a good one out of a dog Bred by DR,never really rated them myself,on average they tended to be a bit big/well built,years ago that didnt matter so much though,some well respected blokes kept them.

    Lamping has been virtually eradicated in my area chopper has seen to that,if you keep getting arrested they will start confiscating your dogs,as a decent dog takes at least 2 years to rear/train..ect how many are you prepared to lose,everyone involved is given points on their licence whether you are driving or not and the fines are around £700 a pop. The 4x4 field drivers have pushed the situation no doubt about it,but sites like this with idiots openly saying things they shouldnt have probably added fuel to the fire as well,what do you think the anti's cops think when they see a picture

    Ive got a Matt Hayes storm force8 or thats what i think its called [bought it ages ago] its really quick to put up when you get the hang of it,no poles to thread and is pretty sturdy when pegged out properly even in high winds,ive got the one man and its ok for size,i Dont buy things because some "name" is on it either,its a good buy imo. I bought it "on special" yea right! but the price did go up shortly after i bought mine,that tells you something. hth steve.

    This is not meant as critisism at all before anyone takes it the wrong way,but unless you bred the ancestors of these pups i doubt you really know whats in them 100%. If youre relying on what breeders told you when you bought the sire/dam it all gets complicated and sometimes out and out lying is involved. It can happen quite innocently what if the breeder of your sire was lied to when he bought their ancestors..ect, Best thing to do is tell people they are a mixture of what you know for a fact is in them imo,and be honest about the performance of the parents. atb steve.

    A mates lad was talking to his mate outside the local shops where they live and a car with 4 black lads [no offence to any black people intended]pulled up and they walked over to my mates lad and asked if they knew who could sell them some green,no threats or anything to my mates lad,just a bit of friendly banter. All of a sudden the law turned up and the black lads scattered,one threw something under a car,the cops caught them all bar 1,when they looked under the car the lad had thrown a loaded automatic pistol under it,the lads were arrested and took away,the pistol was bagged for forensics

    Im still envious Dan. We did hunt some fairly big land at one time,but with the terrier/lurcher combination for bolters ussually,we had some pretty vast permission on the Lincs/Notts border and had some good sport walking off the scrub when nothing was to ground,thats probably the closest you could get to your type of hunting over here,we do have some moorland but you could walk it for weeks without getting near a fox,they tend to be on the wooded valley sides and steer clear of open ground[at least in daylight] Shame the laws an ass,we had some exellent sport back then. atb steve.

    Thanks for the reply Dan, Never thought of it before but i suppose Stag's are a type of Longdog not Lurcher if theres no herding/terrier blood in them,maybe thats why you dont need to add any hardbloood? And im envious of the wide open space you must have mate,"400 yd slip" were lucky to have 2 fields round here over 400 yds square,lol.

    Hi Dan, A question mate if you dont mind? I know you call these dogs Stag hounds and they have been around for a long time[seen pictures of Custer with his]my question is,do you have to introduce some pure running dog blood occasionally to keep the speed or are they ok just bred Stag to Stag? Theres a school of thought over here that says you need to put greyhound in "now and again" as the Stag hounds have been around longer than any other "Lurcher to Lurcher" breeding i know of maybe you could give an informed opinion? atb steve.
