  1. I used to keep the odd pat but now find it easier to call the hunt My heart aint in digging got enough to do without digging bloody holes so the terrier lad from the hunt turns up and removes any foxes I need gone, but should it be your game then there is always digging to be on with

  3. Some good posts above perhaps a "trial dog" could be conditioned to work for a longer time but it isn't in the interests of the trial breeder they prefer a fast intense dog because thats what wins trials. so they breed to that trait those that want a working dog and not a competition dog are more likley to breed to a dog that uses it's head and learns pace and as I have said learns to trust it's nose something a lot of handlers need to do as well, perhaps then they wouldn't require a dog to smash every ounce of cover for no gain other than it is interesting to watch sanity should always come b
  4. Mate I aint arguing with you or criticising your dogs if your happy with your dogs thats great but you must see the trends I point out within ftch rich pedigrees and to be blunt a dog as only does 3 hours wouldn't last a week in my kennel the job don't stop just cause pooch looks tired anyway should you ever be down this way pop in and see what these dogs can do they aint nowt flash just honest dogs that can be relied on to do the job all day long happy to have look at the dogs lets know your location if its not to far we can meet Dorset mate might be a bit far if your from Northumber
  5. best puppy rearer raw meat and bones Totally agree the link I put up is for food made with % meat no grain or crap in it but it still isn't as good as raw
  6. Easy mate. Aslong as the paperwork Is wrote up you can get away with anything! Isn't a labradoodle a recognised kc breed now? Yeah I'm happy with her, looked up borador on google and she doesnt look like one of them really. More lab than anything else, lab coat, all black with a small White patch on her chest and a slightly pointier nose. Just like you described some labs of nowadays. Maybe she is a 3/4 cross haha suppose I will never know her exact makeup, theres lab in there and some collie for sure.............. Possibly a bit of bull (laugh):...................... You Would know
  7. I think these colleges give the wrong impression of the job just to fill places on there courses they also give unrealistic guarantees of job placement after the course is done they churn out all these trainees into a job market which is already saturated most come out the college thinking they are now headkeeper/single handed material when the reality is that they have yet to learn anything and lets be honest if their tutors where any sense at the job they wouldn't be sat in a college teaching would they.
  8. Was only messin with ya in my last post it isn't a cross I had ever heard of can't see why it wouldn't be a bad cross but also can't see how it would be any better than a pure dog of either breed sounds like you got a good one though and so long as it makes you happy then good on ya
  9. intrestin topic a dog doing 10/12 hours work a day 7 days aweek is some dog. a dog being out of the kennal for 10/12 doing bits here and there a diffrent matter be nice to no what feed the dogs get cos plain ole biscet out of the bag wouldnt hold em. they need to be fed good red meat with belly pork for the fats to keep a body on the dog no callin you a liar but to do them hours you must be worryed with heat exhursion fair play to ya thro Mate if folks read my post they will see that I said 1 day on 1 day off not every day and I clearly said they where not worked continuously ,No they
  10. Ok I will answer your post differently though I still find the mistake in your name hilariouse first I would not be done any faster and to suggest other wise says to me you haven't much idea about pheasants, secondly I don't worry as to whether my dogs are exciting to watch , worrying about their "style" is a trial thing and thirdly I prefer a dog that does not hit every cover like it's possessed but one which trusts it's nose and works smart hunting when it needs.

  13. Ohhh you ghastly dog
  14. Luckily the boss picks up the feed bill LOL With out doubt stamina is bred in to a dog without the correct physical conformation the dog will never reach the same levels as a dog bred specifically for the job. the nature of field trials mean that a fast, busy dog is desirable one that will give it's all for the moment its' being judged rather than a dog that takes its' time and works methodically for prolonged periods so to answer your question you can't nurture what it doesn't have and ftch generally don't have stamina, From my point of view if a dog has to be swapped half way through t

  16. Just googled borador well I have learn't something today and that is the dog world is more f****d than I thought anyone as thought that was a good idea wants a f*****g shake LOL please tell me you got yours by accident and that you didn't get it on purpose
  17. getting a spaniel work fit so that it will go all day is not easy the dog needs to be built for the task to start with and unless he can work the dog for prolonged periods regularly the dog's stamina will never increase just getting out twice a week through the season isnt' enough (I would bet by the mid season the dog is finding it easier though) It is not criticism though folks commit the time they have available and not every one can spend day in day out working their dogs. thanks for your take on this but should have made it clear that the dogs are shot over all year(rabbits )not j
  18. Unless it is a lab x collie? Not sure if anyone would really do that on purpose would they?

  20. the great man hancock  no he wouldnt' cull not as he has a heart but cause he see's pound notes in every dog even the runt,
  21. I got to agree with Ideation re the state of labs, for every one lab as has a proper head, thick set and otter tailed you see 10 snipe nosed poorly conformed slight set collie looking things.
  22. I leave a full bowl with the pups till they are 4 months then move to 3 meals a day by 12 months I cut that to 2 meals but it's each to their own or what ever suits on that one to be honest.
  23. http://www.orijenpetfoods.co.uk/acatalog/orijen_puppy.html Expensive but nothing compares to it without doubt the best as near to feeding raw as you'll get.
  24. How many days a week do you work them?
  25. silence except for a bit of tapping and me shouting abuse at errant beaters LOL
