  1. Sound like the ones I got off ebay, Ive not had a problem with them. You could be on to something with the light, your supposed to keep catapult elastic dark and cool when storing, someone I know keeps his elastic in a tub in the fridge. I might stick a few round the garden and see which perish fastest.
  2. Ive no doubt you have mate, Im sure they work fine for their original purpose, Ive not got any issues with them being used. Its just Ive met some folk that blatently refuse to use them for long nets because they are inferior some how? Has any one ever left one on a window sill outside to see how quickly they perish? CW, your too funny, I`ve slipt one on my finger and I definately dont want one round my nuts.
  3. Hi All. Now I know Castration rings are a bit of a emotive subject, but hopefully someone whos use`s them for their proper job can chip in and put this to bed, so any farmers feel free to set the record straight. Although Ive done quite a few jobs on live stock farms, Ive never castrated anything.... So, am I right in thinking that the castration rings are for just that, amputating lambs tails and nut sacks or do they add the ring after the op is performed to stem the flow of blood, leaving an empty nutsack? Usually the first thing out of a non fans mouth is "crap, rot too quick" Now
  4. Do u have any of them small file blanks left?
  5. Got my Micarta handled feildcrafter a few days ago after telling the Mrs to scrap the kindle hd and get me a knife. Very nice, cheers Matt. Ive finally allowed her to wrap it now... Any chance of one of those little file knives reddawn had, with the rubber neck sheath please. No rush though..
  6. Na, Me either, but I presumed you got them as Ive seen bits and pieces on here about rat purse nets. I wonder if he was pulling my leg? I added the quickset bit as I thought most people would set them this way these days for speed.
  7. Ha Ha Ha. I dont know why but I assumed most people ordered from Advanced now and got sent what I got sent.. Are you sure brinded didnt just send you what they had lying around as theres a few unhappy people dealt with them lately, and 30 meshes does sound monsterously deep, feck me, you could rip it lenth ways, add a selvedge to each edge and get two nets out of it.
  8. Hi All. I was talking to a real old boy a fews doors up that still does a bit, and he mentioned using a rat longnet as a safety barrier when doing country road hedges and such with lots of cover, to stop the ferrets wandering into the road. He said he`d lost a few over the years to cars. It sounded a good idea at the time, but then I thought, when a ferret comes to something blocking its way, it either walks round or climbs over.. Anyone ever used one for this? Any thoughts?
  9. Just checked mine... 15 meshes.. Dont listen to me, Im talking shite lol. I wouldnt go cutting it just yet though. I know its a pain in the arse, I would try it out first and if it was too much then cut it. Where did you order it from just out of interest?
  10. It`ll be fine mate, the meshes are all stretched the wrong way at the moment, once its hung the right way at the lenth its gonna be used at, most of that will disapear. Im gonna go count the meshes on that sheet I bought...
  11. By the time you have set it up, some of that depth will be lost when you stretch it the other way.
  12. Leave it as it is. DONT cut it, its sposed to have that much bag.
  13. No. I dont see the point, their only gonna get dirty again. Plus I dont like the idea of them having a "floral burst" or "caribbean breeze" smell to them.
  14. I dont get you mate, what extras would an app include to make it worth having an app? I come on here on my Iphone occasionally with no probs. Ive an icon, brings me straight here... Someone mentioned you cant see the full site on apple mobile devices, but it doesnt bother me, as Ive not normally the time to browse outdoors. The only thing worth including in a THL app would be a photo uploader, so you could take pictures and know you could guarantee to get them online with ease.
  15. Not good.. I carry a Roe antler topped walking stick after 2 lurchers coarsed my 2 terriers through a local wood, with no apparent handler. I dont know who`d have got it worse if I caught them, the dogs or the owner. I did call out to get the lurchers under control with no reply, so in my eyes them dogs was fair game.
  16. Nice mate, well done. Ive just done a two tone yellow and green 50/25yd rigged net, then cracked straight on with a 100/50yd in brown. Im 68 yards into it and can honestly say, Im getting bored now lol. Feels good getting that selvedge on dont it..
  17. Advanced netting. Best off ringing them as they dont advertise it as rabbit net.
  18. Put the ring on the peg, then tie your clove hitch and tighten. Then pull the band out, twist, and back over the peg, trapping your knot. Hope that makes sense. I think lifelongcumbrian done a bit of a tutorial on it.. Edited to say - This works on 10mm pegs, Ive not tried it with the 12mm magnum`s.
  19. Yeah, not bad. John being there was pretty pointless though. Meat eating aside, he just didnt want to be there or get involved. The bore wouldnt even get back on the bus with them black woman. Sean had a good crack though, probably would of made a better program if he was on his own..
  20. Beer and late night kippers definately dont mix...

  21. Scrap the blank idea Matt, Mine would end up looking like paulus` one in the comp Ive sent you a pm....
  22. Hi Mate, are these ready for an edge and scales? Would be interesed in giving it a crack ..
  23. Ah well, at least he`s only dead.. When I saw the thread, I thought, Oh, FFs another kiddie fiddler....
  24. The way you described is probably the most common way, due to the reasons already mentioned. But when you lay a net flat, its normally called back netting. It helps catch the rabbits trying to get back to ground. The net doesnt purse properly, but more so than if the ring was in the hole. Sometimes helps put a few more in the bag.
  25. Fnck it, life`s too short, cant hold out for perfect weather, gonna go try run this 50 yard traditional out for the first time....

    1. Mr Wilkes
