  1. If you know a welder, life long cumbrian has put up plans for a decent one in the longnetting section. Its set up to take a couple of nets.
  2. I dont even know the guy doing it so its a bit hard for communication, I`ll just have to see what its like when it turns up. Im not worried about weight either, its going to be fooking heavy with spun poly nets in anyway. As long as it takes 12mm fibre glass pegs, it`ll do me. LLC, what knot did you say you use for tying the net bag on?
  3. Hi All, Well Im 30+ yards into a 25yd quickset, so I thought I would see if I could get someone to knock me up a basket based on the Life Long Cumbrians design. The fella has got back to me and it will be ready the weekend, for £30. Just need some pegs now, anyone got any magnum poles with grommets for sale?
  4. Very good Rew. Ive yet to use a traditional in the day never mind the night. Ive got got a few here Ive made, just no suitable ground.
  5. Some sound advice again TC. Ive got my longnet on a hook behind the front room curtain, next to the tv. Its out of sight, but takes two seconds to crack on with a bit more when I fancy it. You get more done when you can pick it up and put it down quickly. I cant walk through the front room without doing a quick row now.
  6. Thats an awsome way of telling how much more twine I will need. Nice one TC.
  7. 20 yard of my longnet done, only another 30...

      Its a labour of love,but worth it.keep knitting .

  8. Thanks TC, very interesting. You certainly have had a play around with the webs aint you. Sorry for jacking your thread SGP.
  9. Happys days, you might be ok on the mixy front now that Winter is on its way.
  10. When I first started I used cut down fishing nets. Usually old nets as I was a fisherman, they had joins and repaired holes everywhere but they still caught rabbits. You can put a selvedge on if you want. But, if you don't that does not mean the the net will not work properly. As too the idea that a double selvedge is better than one it just does not hold up. Think about it, Some say that the friction of the net running the lines will cause the net to wear where it is in contact with the running lines. Is the friction any the less for a 25 yard net than a 50 yard net? Yet the 50 yard net h
  11. i always made them in square mesh as it seems to work better than diamond mesh when it comes to long nets I dont know how to tie square mesh yet. Im sure I read on here, that when you add a selvedge, it off sets the net slightly, for the better?
  12. "thanks for the heads up i think i'll be seeking some advice when it comes to putting one of those together" Mate, its much easier than a purse net, theres no adding or deducting meshes, and you only ever doing 14 or 15 meshes. You seem to grow rows really fast, but its a bit monotonous. I`m doing mine two tone, changing colour every 10yds, to help keep track of how far Ive done and it will make setting the bagging easier and more accurate, working on 5yd pegs. Ive also read that a two tone net can trick rabbits back into the net, as where it changes colour, the rabbit thinks the net h
  13. In one word, Shite. Picking odd ones up mooching. I spotted 2 up my permission in Romsey, Hampshire which last year was crawling.
  14. You will be able to unpick the knots down the edges if you cut it right, next to the knot. If you choose not to, the tag ends and old knot will get caught when tying on your selvedge. Nice work Tiecel, when you say 100yd rigged, is that a 200yd lenth then? Ive done 12 yards of a 50 so far thats gonna be rigged as a 25yd.
  15. Mate, I went through nearly a full spool when I learnt. To do 14 rows then get a slip... Then there was the blistered hands. I couldnt put it down though, quite addictive once you get going.
  16. Cheers for the reply, yeah I like the fact their custom to suit my needs, what kind of mesh pattern do you make them too? I started on 8 and worked up to 17 then back down. Most on here prefer a bigger net, myself included. I start with 12 on the ring, increasing a mesh every row to 19 then 5 rows of 20 then back down to 12.I used to unpick if I had a slip, but now I just cut the row below the slip off, unpick the knots and start the row again, I think its much faster and easier than unpicking 20 knots.
  17. He`s pretty fast whoever he is. Only single knotting though. Is there a reason he`s only doing singles? Easier to remove/repair?
  18. No worrys mate, I`m new to it too, Ive used plenty but not made many. You can only work with what you have. We used to make purse nets out of tennis court nets when we were kids If its 3-1/2 inch mesh, 20 deep sounds about right, better to have plenty of bagging and kill, then not enough. Have you checked out the sticky at the top of the page regarding how to add a selvedge mesh? Some useful info there..
  19. Oh right, cheers. Is that cause its technically only half a mesh you add each side?
  20. Im not sure what 3.1/2 12 strand is, but it sounds a bit over kill, the twine sounds thick and the mesh size maybe a tad small. When I used sheet netting,(6z) I just cut to lenth and put a running line on, I left the kill as it was, which was fine. The mesh I bought had doubled up edges, effectively a built in selvedge. On the one I`m making from scratch, I`m using a 2-1/8 mesh board, which will gimme a 4-1/4 mesh. It will be 14 meshes deep and I`ll be adding a selvedge mesh top and bottom, making it 16 meshes deep. Your net will work without a selvedge mesh, but over time and use, your lin
  21. FFS!? Surely thats beastiality? Ive seen tribes woman feeding baby pet monkeys, which for some strange reason, isnt as disturbing as this.
  22. Im with you mate. Can I ask, If he handles well, goes down and comes up ok, why did you only try him on one bury?
  23. How old, and what sort of weight?
  24. It might not be any good for night time stealthing. But, I thought it was awsome as a quickset on magnum poles, for lazy ferreting. Drops and picks up like a dream. After using one a few weeks back, Ive started making my own I liked them that much. Ive been told Nigel does a thinner spun poly for longnets?
  25. Stealthy, are you on about the spot on or the spray? Im using the spray for cats and dogs, if anything it prob could doing with being a bit stronger. Im sure the spot on is much more potent though. I got through a whole bottle last season of the frontline spray, with no ill effects...
