Without being harsh, a dog may be with you for a decade or more, and i know when your young everything seems like it needs to happen NOW! But you may not actually like hunting that much, or you may find another interest in six months. Like the man above said, go out any try it all with the dog (and others dogs) to see what floats your boat, at least that way if you decide to get another pup, chances are you will get something suited to what and how you wish to hunt, and may even, through getting out and meeting folk, get put onto a quality litter, rather than grabbing whatevers about cos it co -

Fairplay, but maybe get him doing what he needs to do first. Trying to train two dogs at once is a bit of a nightmare, and i bet you will favour one, and one will get left out, or they dogs will just take themselves off and ignore you. Spend the summer getting him fit, learning etc, and try it all out next winter, and if you really do enjoy it etc, THEN start to think about doubling your pack. You shouldnt get a dog you dont KNOW you have the work for, but of course its your call. I'd be very interested to see what your lad can do, i bet he surprises you. -

Not being funny to the O.P, but you have a nice dog there, and you and him have only just discovered the concept of hunting with a dog, and he's showing some good interest, so do yourself and him a favour and work with him, to get him working, and enjoy that, rather than rushing out any buying a 'purpose bred lamping pup' straight away. That dog you got, you already have a bond with, he recalls, retrieves and shows an interest in rabbits. Get out with some folk who know what their doing and learn a bit. -
Edited from something pointless, to - GOOD LUCK!

Wow - where did it go??????? That is surely censorship of the highest order!

I was never threatened with a ban, just publically made to look like I was harrassing her and threatening her childrens safety. The site owner also took her side and sent me a message telling me to leave her alone, but never apologised for being completely wrong. Aye mate it was you i was thinking of, she made some seriously out of order claims about your personally. I got threatened with a ban, if i didn't leave her alone also, as did others.

Thats malaig Aye thought it might be, we used to go across to skye that way, and done some fishing in Loch Nevis and Loch Morar.

lol what have i got to say sorry for??? if john keswick says sorry to every single lurcher man on here for his ridiculous comments then ill hold my hands up and say sorry then infact to anyone ive ever offended ill say publicly say sorry now while ive got chance . . .. . I don't really get how he 'grassed' or 'insulted every lurcher man on the site'. To be honest he had a point, if you flick onto here as your first and only introduction to say lurcher work, at times you could get a very negative impression of folk who run dogs. That's pretty fair.
-
So it was you on page 3. . . ..

Thats true, but then the very nature of 'problem members' comes into question, problem members according to whom, cos they aint a democracy!

not alot really mate just called ians mate john keswick a bellend for his grassing comments lol!!! f**k it tho knowing im not wanted on here just makes me laugh Lets not lie, it's less what you say sometimes mate but the way you say it. When you say 'grassing' do you mean admitting that many folk who run dogs are in fact bell ends who are f*****g it up for us all? Good to see you back anyhow. yes lets not lie mate did you read what he said???? my reply probably was harsh and out of order BUT nowhere as near as harmful to our sport as what he said in my opinion Fair eno

100% mate. I just reckon he might have a slightly easier time if he debated with a few less insults! Nowt wrong with healthy disagreement, i'm a proper argumentative b*****d, just insults over the internet are a bit sad.

Thing with the report button, etc is that although most of the time it works, it's also used by plenty to 'report' folk they just dont like, agree with etc. I got banned for a week by a certain mod for trying to 'swap a live animal' - what the post actually said was, we have rescued two pups, cleaned them up, jabbed them etc, and one is free to a good working home, but would like a night out lamping or day ferreting with the person first (on our permission even) just to suss them out. Apparently i was trying to swap dogs for lamping???? SO it's down to the discretion of the mod - who has their

Breed a polecat in captivity long enough and it's a ferret.
-
not even any logic in that - why call a very small ferret a 'greyhound'. engage the brain.

As much as i prefer a Collie bred lurcher,if you ever get the opportunity to witness a proper cousing dog in the field, you may reflect on your last statement. im not saying that he is the best coursing dog going just saying that lamping a dog and coursing them can be right for some dogs and i have seen some proper coursing dogs working in the field and i have owned some very good coursing dogs but coursing is not my main game lamping is and as i said a lot of dogs used mainly for coursing are not great on a rabbit but a dog used for mainly lamping well make a better allrounder Lets not

Good photo, with the lead and the dogs pose, it looks like your grey whippet is stock breaking your black one.
