  1. No real 'better', just personal preferance. And for what you need a beddy x whip would probably suffice in size.
  2. See, that's fair enough. But it some how implies that by spending 25 quid you will get 'good stock', but folk who charge less, or give them away free to good homes, do not have 'good stock'? I admit that at the end of the day 25 quid is not THAT much in the grand scheme of things for a good working ferret. But this guys is 100% breeding for the money (he admits it) and not to produce the 'best' he can, i mean are ALL of his six jills equally as good, top workers? Or did he just breed every jill he had to maximize profit? Lets face it, as soon as folk start to be really concerned about the mone
  3. Cheers mate. So not only is he a peddler of the first order, but also doesn't actually know what a 'greyhound' ferret is. Now let me ask you to consider this logically! If you were looking at a line of true breeding ferrets, and gave them the name 'greyhounds', do you think it would be due to their tiny size? I mean logically, would you pick 'greyhound' to refer to a mini ferret???
  4. So folk honestly believe that half of what is shot and stuck up on here is done as really necessary pest control, rather than to 'score' some points and look the big man? Not everywhere is a game shoot, and as has been said, how many game shoots would be up for a teenage lad with a shotty wandering about at night. Kill what needs killing, but get some respect for it ffs, and stop thinking it makes you cool / a big man, anyone can point a stick and pull a trigger. I've read through the lads past posts and they are, shooting two cubs, shooting another fox, only winging it and needing to finish i
  5. Not sure who that's aimed at, but you want to wind your neck in Mr internet hardman.
  6. Only cos the 'authorities' took it off you
  7. FOD has a pretty serious breeding population
  8. Yet you still feel compelled to reply ....tell me this bright boy how would you get to see the dam working? If she's not long whelped she will hardly be fit enough to take out for a demo will she. Well, 'bright boy', you get to know folk with decent dogs and you go and see the dam work BEFORE she is mated. Not rocket science is it mate. I wasn't knocking the dogs from Hancocks kennels, if you actually read what i posted, it's just that i don't really agree with the way he produces them There are understandable reasons why people buy pups from him and i have also put that i
  9. There is NO logic in that mate. Any ferret bred should be well reared, tame, easy to handle and off good, proven working stock. Shouldn't that be the standard not some higher priced luxury model??? A higher price does not equate to a higher standard of ferret, and in general those selling for a higher price, are interested in the money rather than breeding the best. In my opinion money and working animals do not mix well. I have a litter just that this that was born a couple of days a go. What is surplus to my requirements will go to new homes for free. Ok, explain the
  10. All I need mate is one these and a iron ore ball off the railway line. Ready when you are mate
  11. Thing is, all of this mixing and matching, is where you hope it all comes together right. And at 8 weeks it's a bit hard to tell.
  12. Watchman - i have had a few 'run ins' with them, and a couple of chases where i have been very lucky indeed. I have also seen a couple of dogs seriously f****d up by them. At the moment, with young, the sows are at their most dangerous, all you need to do is be in the area and they will come looking for you, especially if you have a dog, and they move really f*****g quick. Bogger - they need to be semi enclosed, because of the damage they do when they spred. We have them wild around here as well, and they chew the place up. The great thing about them is the population can explode, they bre

  14. You seem them about a bit, they are pretty popular these days, but its getting a decent one. See quite a lot of half x beddy whips and 3/4 bred beddy whips, less beddy x grey. Me personaly i'd go for a pup out of beddy x / beddy x, with both parents working, of a 3/4 bred dog, as finding decent beddys to make a 1st x can be tough. imo.
  15. For me personally i would like a collie x, either 3/4 x 3/4, or 3/4 x 5/8 3/8, and preferably a breeding of one dog that has been a VERY prolific rabbit dog, lamping, bushing, ferreting and the other a very handy dog on stuff that bites. The idea being to create a pup capable of both, and a generally more rugged dog than a straight 3/4 (i.e half x pure). At least that's my theory. Looking at what i do and the land i hunt, and what quarry is there, i think that would cover all angles, and last well.
  16. For a stupid thread,,,you do keep on You're right mate, i still maintain the thread is dumb, but i had no one else to argue with . . . . .
  17. There isn't really a 'better' mate, as its down to the individual dog, but i would say both a springer (being a scent dog) and a beddie x (being a terrier based lurcher) would take to marking fairly easily. I'd go for a beddy x over a springer for what you want as it would both be able to mark, and also help while ferreting, do some ratting if needed, run on the lamp, work cover to the gun if trained right, and are fairly easy to get on with. Just make sure its out of working stuff
  18. Semi enclosed in a large woodland, i.e not allowed to f**k off. But they are true 'wild boar'. The ground is so mashed up where these photos are taken, as it's near a nesting site and a mud wallow
  19. Bird of prey (decoy) with dead crow in it's talons / at it's feet, nothing else fucks a crow off more
  20. Nope, to be fair if keep clean, dry and draft free and well fed and watered, they are fairly hardy animals. I give mine the occasional worm / flee treatment, pull ticks out when i see them, clean the ears and trim the claws when i see it's needed. That's about it. But handle the shit out of them, make ferreting a lot easier.
  21. At least the man is being honest now!
