  1. A wise old man of diminutive stature once told me, "if you want to catch rabbits day and night, get a collie/grey" . And they can do a lot more. The original 'lurcher'. Having said that they dont suit everyones tastes or personalities.
  2. Lovely mate, shes grown Looks a nice pup
  3. My bet would be rats given the location. Could be mink given the location as well, but you would probably have more than cuts, same with a stoat, i would think. I fecking HATE rats.
  4. The jill jab fucks with their heads, i wouldnt be surprised if they reverse role at some point.
  5. People confuse 'hardness/toughness/tenacity' with gameness a lot it seems.
  6. Could either be boredom or that she has wised up to what it was. My dog used to be great fpr playing 'fetch', loved a tennis ball, dummy, frisbee, whatever. Now i'm lucky if i get two or three retrieves if he is in the mood, before he just dumps it and walks off. Sometimes i chuck the ball and he just looks at me with a 'so. . . . . . . . you want what?' look and then goes to try and find a bunny.

    Gypsy speak

Aye the Roma have their own language, but that usually has nowt to do with a lot of the traveller dialect, which is as influenced by scots dialect and other stuff. Many of our travellers here came after the clearances rather than from the wagon peoples.
  8. At least six days a week. Good mix of various meats, preferably whole carcass. Dry as a standby. Can supplement with (lactose free/ kitten / goats) milk and egg. Don't put too much in at once or it will go off. In summer feed at night or use dry to avoid flys etc.
  9. Shredded paper in the nest and wood shavings in the runs for the jill with kits. Wood shavings all over for the court and hobs.
  10. Good confidence for a pup And you got to cull them somehow
  11. Mine prefer the gerbils, said the hamster gave his arse a rash
  12. See, that wasn't so hard, an explanation! You can't really deny then that some rabbits are lost that a 'hedge crasher' would have taken. Unless ALL of your rabbits just stop dead after making cover? but how long will that hedge crasher crash hedges for???????? That is a totally separate question. You stated that dogs that were worked a lot DID NOT EVER crash hedges, and dogs that did, obviously didn't see enough action. NOT, That a dog that crashes hedges will end up injured more. The first is false, the second common sense. Yes, the dog is more likely

  14. THATS A BOLD STATEMENT MATE ,TO ME A GOOD DOG TEN TWENTY YEARS AGO ISNT ANY WORSE OR BETTER THAN A GOOD DOG TODAY .WAS ALI BETTER THAN TYSON?SAME THING MATE DIFFERENT TIMES SAME HARE. No mate, but no one was selectively breeding boxers were they. That's the point. If you had a good line 20 years ago, and you have been breeding best to best and working at improving your line, then theoretically you should have better dogs the longer time progresses. The average standard will have dropped due to an increase in popularity. Just my thoughts mate. I HEAR WHAT YOUR SAYING .THE THING I
  15. Fairplay mate. BUT YOU STILL HAVE NOT SAID WHY!!!!!! Despite being asked many times. What is your reasoning and logic that makes you think that EACH AND EVERY 'good and experianced dog' does not 'crash' a hedge, but stops and attempts to pluck the rabbit out without entering the hedge??? And the daytime thing, how many dogs could catch 3/4 good strong winter hares, given fair law, on big land, and catch each one in say less than 2 mins???? ok i take that as where friends again it was a thought i was havin while lamping to create a debate mate didnt say i was right o

  23. Some lines will have got better, but the 'average' standard of working lurchers will have dropped most likely. But the 'best' dogs now will be better than the 'best' dogs of the past.
