  1. Big hobs are good when you just want the rabbit dead asap, or when you have big old warrens and a big, stinky hob puts the fear of god into them. I use two medium sized hobs (but much bigger than my jills) called Chunk and Bear. And i have to say, i've never seen rabbits bolt so quick.
  2. Well done matey, what was final score, and how many did the skinny dog take?
  3. Good luck mate, i would be out tomo, but the dogs f****d himself again
  4. KR - I'm with you mate. Don't get me wrong mate, i do love the thrill of a good nights lamping, and being out wandering the fields in the dark, and its great watching a good dog do its job, it's pure athetecism! (s.p). However, at the end of the day, i love to watch the dogs hunt, not just chase. I'd much rather go out into the rough land, or up the mountain and watch the dogs working hard to hunt up, push out and run 30 rabbits and only catch 2/3 in the daytime, than lamp those same 30, and catch 15/20 of them. The dog has to use all its senses and skills, and most of all it's brain. I'm fin
  5. Taking a jabbed up pup out for a bit of ferreting sounds like a good idea , walking a nine week old puppy for miles a day sounds like you need a good kick in the bollocks. Agreed, the walking part is f*****g stupid, but i don't see too much problem taking a very young pup out at night just to experiance it all. ideation most folks would say that your stupid taking a 11 week old pup ferreting all day , so when you talk of of others methods please chose you words more carefully ,remember were both in the same boat atb oneshot To be fair sunshine, the pup sat on a box most o

  8. Winter is well and truly upon us. . .. . . . . . where the f**k do you live iceland?
  9. As has been said, different holes, call for slightly different tactics, and each individual will have their own slightly different way of doing things. However, i have laid a decent number of nets in my life so far and this is how i do it in general - Clear the area around the hole as best you can, and clear out any dead leaves etc from the hole. Push the bottom ring into the hole, dig the ring into the earth on the floor of the hole, and spread the net out over the floor, cover the rest of the hole with the net, pushing the loose bit into the hole. Then push the peg in so that the dra
  10. Between my ferreting partner and I, our top three workers are polecat, albino, silver, they all work as well, no matter what jacket they are wearing. I do tend to lean toward lighter coloured ferrets due to the ease of spotting them, but as said, in the snow, that goes out the window!
  11. If you use barbed or razor wire, under the Occupiers Liability Act 1984 you must take reasonable precautions to prevent injury to other people, including trespassers, caused by dangers on your property. If you are building a wall on the boundary with your neighbour, you may need your neighbour’s permission (under the Party Wall Act 1996). If you live somewhere, such as an estate, where there are building restrictions in force, you may need to get special permission.
  12.    Fecking pissin myself mate
  13. Always used Spaniels when i was a kid, and that was pretty much all my old man used. Takes a bit more to train them for both shooting and ferreting though, due to the slight conflict of roles.
  14. Some good pics there ideation who's that in the bottom pic ? How is his skin as in tuffness ?? Thats Jesus mate and his skin is really soft.......he moisturise's every day. I'll let Jai answer about the dogs skin. As Johnny says mate, that's Jesus. I always say he has pretty good skin for a whippet . . . . . that is, until he runs into something. Put it this way, i'm well known in the vets! But the land we hunt isn't exactly ideal for a whippet.
  15. Yeah..i think a decent 3/4 bred of most types would throw handy pot fillers mate? ...ATB Andy. Aye, probably mate, a good line bred lurcher to lurcher collie x, of about 3/4 hound, 1/4 collie, would be my choice i think I really like his cobby, thick build though

  18. Your answer is mate - that folk simply don't enter, as it is mainly in the air rifle section, and seen as 'for' air rifle lads, with most likely a member of the air rifle crew winning.
  19. I 100% get what you are saying, but it's a big circle. You think ' f**k em, i'm just going to poach', and then next man, who goes to get permission, gets told to f**k off, because of what you are doing.
  20. Just for the record, they are called 'cockers' because they were originally bred down, to be used for hunting / shooting woodcock. Mooch - I know what you are saying mate, but that is more in the training than the breed.
  21. As said above - All gun dogs can do most jobs up to a point, but get the dog to suit the main job. So Spaniels for rough shooting, beating etc. With choice of springer / cocker being decided by personal preferance, type of terrain being hunted and quarry. And labs for picking up, and waterfowling. I personally have always much preffered watching spaniels work. I'll also add that cockers are probably slightly harder to train than springers, and a bit mad.
  22. As Simo says, don't be a total knob jocky and wave a gun or a knife about, that is just playing into their hands. What you should have done was call the police and tell them four people are tresspassing, damaging your property, making threats to your person, acting in a threatening manner, making death threats etc Get their reg plate when you report them That should give them a nice bit of hassle.
  23. Well done mate, and a very happy birthday Can't think of a better hang over cure than some bunny bashing. Might make it up to see you guys this season if the offer still stands?
