  1. I believe a narrow chested terrier is a desirable physical attribute, was wondering if whippet blood would reduce the spannable chest width of a terrier using working whippet blood?Bearing in mind, the breeding would have to involve game dogs of both breeds to start a baseline. Most terriers today are barely spannable, how on earth can these terriers find game below ground if they can't get where the charlie goes? Higgins.
  2. So here we are Genetics V nurture. Breeding V environment. Well.here is the start of a debate.Does genetics breed a dog that can be worked or do you nurture a dog that can be worked? Or does the breeding produce a working dog or does the environment produce him? Answers please, but not on a postcard,no prizes awarded, just stimulated thinking and an intelligent deep thinkimg process is required, Higgins.
  3. never had a problem ordering from Darcy, once he sent me two books,i sold one on ebay and split the profits, great service and communication, Higgins.
  4. You must have had some great times and experiences over there, personally if i was over there i wouldn;t bother coming here for the hunting the laws are worse and your most likely to get a pull of the plod if driving about late at night, although saying that the recent budget cuts on the police mighbt mean it's better now, Higgins.

    BOXING

Don't think Harrison will win,but Haye's glass chin and Harrison's'lucky' punch could change everything. Personally i think Haye will be a much better fighter on the night as he is hungry,Harrison will be going through the motions just to look credible....Haye in 3, Higgins.
  8. I agree with Duckwing,it's about pride and also values which have dissapeared in many communities. In the eighties i did Manpower schemes while unemployed,we did old peoples gardens, decorated their homes and built pathways and golf courses to earn our benefits. At the time i resented being forced to work for my benefits, but since then i have understood the priciple behind it and i have always chose to work since then, the world owes you nothing and you have to find your own way in life.I will never sign on again and i resent the fact that workshy spongers have everything while i pay tax for their
  9. i am in charge of the most useless dog i've had the privilege to encounter,if i had a shotgun i'd shoot this fecker, but because i'm a hunter i allow him to live.Anyway, now and again i listen to some pink floyd and go dowwmstairs to comfort the fecker listening to this surreal piece of music(i know i should be smoking a spliff)but when i get there i haven't the heart to hurt him,i just see this soft, useless piece of dog and i can't kill him.....i feed the fecker but he is no use to me...will the anti's have him and save his life or what....?
  10. hopefully there will still be a small nucleius of genuine terriermen dedicated to preserving the Patterdale or Fell terriers, the rest will just breed for showing..... Higgins

  14. Used to hunt on one in Bolton, there were plenty about and big feckers they were too, there were also plenty of feral cats some were pink from the maggot dyes.I'm sure there was a maggot farm in Glossop which my old fella used to deliver coal nearby, but i could never find it, Higgins
  15. Don't think much of his cheesy film numbers, and apart from the usual well known stuff i enjoy listening to his gospel songs such as How great thou art,Why me Lord to name a couple.

  21. you could parallel wire two 17 amp batteries together to give 12 volt 34 amps, tbese may be lighter than a 40 amp battery. Higgins
  22. Spot on. After first crosses, I personally think your better choosing your lining by the eye rather than on paper. couldn't put it better myself, too much emphasis on numbers, Higgins
  23. Yes first crosses you get 50/50 or half crosses, next cross would divide it into quarters, next it becomes eigths, then sixteenths and so on.After first and second crosses it becomes difficult to tell what the breeding is, so percentagbes only give an indication as to what amount of each dog has been used for reference, but the genes will recombine and pair randomly so it is difficult to know exactly whbat is in each offspring unless you go through some sort of DNA testing/analysis, Higgins
  24. Higgins 4/8 = 1/2, as does 3/6 9/18 16/32 etc etc Yes 4/8 ths is half or 50%,but i made this point in explaining the percentage of the dam only, the pup would technically be half greyhound.I'm not into percentages of breeds too much,as said by others on here the gene combinations are passed randomly, instead i look for all the physical, characteristics and trait influences to see if they are expressed, the numbers only give an indication as to what has gone into the breeding, Higgins.
