  1. Not impressed with this at all. No doubt some councils will use them as a 'humane' alternative to more traditional medthods of control ie. HUNTING. 'Progress' hey... bollocks.
  2. Catching the bait bird is the tricky bit. A clutch of eggs or plate of cat food is what i use but it normally takes a while. As for shooting them with an airgun... why not.. provided you take sensible shots ie. not on the chimney pot or garden wall.
  3. Joined this one a bit late... sorry to hear about your dog mate.
  4. Just who is this 'they' whin... Your arguement, despite being a massive generalisation and blinkered on dog running, seems to be more having a pop at people who can afford to stand on a peg or drive a 4wd . Its the 'class' issue that has got hunting with dogs and hunting in general into such a mess. Whether its 'toffs on a nag' or slipping a whippet on a hare a full ban on dog hunting is waiting in the wings and i sure the 'pissed up john wayens' are just as worried as the rest of us. Like i said earlier, slagging other methods of control in favour of your own is totally unconstructi
  5. Not got much experience in long lining but a hook every ten yrds seems a bit much. I've seen 2.5 ft snoods (couldn't say what size hook i'm afraid) spaced about 6ft apart with 'baited' tin-foil and sequins take mackerel. I know flatties like bright baits so this may work for them if trolled along the bottom.
  6. I think that each method of control has its place and is equally satisfying . Some areas can't be shot because of safety issues wheras covering a large area with dogs is impratical. What is annoying is sweeping statements sledging one method for another. "hang the fox up on the land owners fence and make it look like there just out shooting vermin and doing it for the sport but when infact they are out shooting enything they can take to the game dealer and make cash" What a load of crap ... thats the sort of bullshit i'd expect to read in the Guardian not a hunting forum from a fell
  7. Larson trap is about as compact as they get really mate and are very effective.
  8. Shot a youngster on Saturday... still pretty mild in Dorset so they still appear to be breeding... like rabbits.

  10. Good stuff bud and nice pooch.. he's looking very professional about the whole thing
  11. Sweet... that'll be another few hundered quid then! Better get the Mrs a bigger christmas prezzie
  12. Good old Guardian "We know that people stealing birds eggs don't get a very good time inside. It's almost seen as paedophilia"
  13. A rotory 'pigeon magnet' will bring birds within range of a shotgun on the wing but they will very rarely land near one. Full bodied decoys lofted in a tree are a good bet for a static target if you have a suitable sitty tree. Remote control flappers may also work as they can be activated to attract a passing bird but then left off so as not to spook one when it lands. Your HW80 will easily take pigeons out to 30-40 yards.
  14. sweet job mate makes me want to have a go.
  15. I can see what Baldie meant by sausage bullets now! Great set up there Varminter and good pics. Green with envy Is that a T8 on a fluted barrel? 17. :11: :11: ... a vain attempt to catch the blood for 'jugged hare'... most of it ended of in the back of the car Needless to the say the mrs wans't too impressed.
  18. Hey guys, I've shot a few hares before (mainly in New Zealand) but tend to let em be round my areas as they are a bit thin on the ground . (I know some places are seething with them... you know who you are... you lucky buggers.) Anyway, i saw three in one field so i felt justified in taking one for the pot. Like i said, i've shot brown hares before, but i'm sure they wern't a big as this bugger... Maybe its been too long and i'm looking through magnified, rose tinted glasses? Is this a large one or about average... has anyone taken larger ones? Have a cracker
