  1. I was using it out of as tin mate but it goes of pretty quick so i started using frozen..all i do is stick it in warm water for half hour and they love it..
  2. I don't know if it's anything to do with the sweetcorn that i am putting in but they are hammering it..they are eating very little egg food and they wont touch the meal worm's..
  3. The cock bird from the auction is the chick's other parent..
  4. What ever i do good from these Fireman...you can take your pick. . but can i pleeeeeeease pick mine first.. .. .
  5. :victory: Thankyou.
  6. Here is a nest full of chick's from my first ever attempt at breeding british native finches..i have tried 3 time's now to ring them and finaly i have managed to get all 6 chick's rung..hard work i must say this ringing lark is but part of that was down to my inexperience.. Five ring's will deffinitely stay on and the smaller one may fall of but that is it from me with this nest after 3 attempt's with noone showing me the ropes.. I just hope they will all be able to fit in the nest till they have all fledged.. . http://i1238.photobucket.com/albums/ff492/Millet2/Image0086_zpseff9268b.jpg
  7. A decent cock canary can knock a good tune out Simo as can a goldie or linnet mule..
  8. If they where not used to eating green's i wonder if it caused a build up of gas in there gut's..i had a bit of trouble when i started feeding one of my canaries on broccoli..it looked unhealthy and it kept getting a messy vent..so i was advised to put oyster shell grit in coated with granulated charcoal and it solved the problem more or less instant..
  9. I have a pile of it growing in the front garden aswell as dandilion's..the neighbour's must think i am nut's when they see me stood there with the hose pipe watering the weed's.. ,, i have found the best place for it is on damp fertile ground with not so many other tall stuff growing..
  10. Good stuff Fireman..and don't let the retard's beat you.. ..as you know nearly all of mine are on egg's and i have a nest full of greenies..but the nest is too high uo to get a photo so i will have to wait till they leave the nest.. i'm back home today so i will check to see if the ring's stayed on this time..
  11. If i have a pigeon facing me the only shot i will take is a head shot if you miss it will fly of unharmed..i will never ever go for a front chest shot..i used to as a kid and too many flew away injured.. Side on is my prefared shot around the wing joint area it gives you 2 option's to drop them..one with a smashed wing the other with a organ shot..
  12. Read a bit the other day Gnipper and breeding young bird's increases the likelihood of them becoming egg bound among other major problem's that will kill them..
  13. Next year sound's good let the internal working's mature before they have to try and squeeze a egg through a tight straw..that has been shrink wrapped..
  14. When i get a bit of spare time i am going to have a bash at making some open fronted carry boxes.. ..they will be a different design to what i have seen and when i get cracking i will fire some picture's up..
  15. Too much humidity is just as bad as not enough mate..you only need to candle them the once and if your bator is full you best leave the lid on till 24hr's after the first egg has hatched..the humidity created by the egg's while incubated and hatching should be spot on but if you keep opening the bator you will loose the humidity..
  16. what about wheat sprinkled around the edge of the pond in the shallow water to stop the rat's getting it..
  17. If you are unsure what to do you are best get someone in to have a look and offer some face to face advice..the information you require can not be accuratley given over the internet..and if you do it wrong it could end up with someone seriously hurt or killed..or you well out of pocket when half of your house fall's down..
  18. It could be a number of thing's..not enough or too humid..is the bator in a quiet place where it can't get knocked and is at a decent bator with good tempreture control.
  19. If you know your dog's you should know when to call it a day.. .
  20. I have alway's wondered how anyone could get Wren chick's out of the nest without wrecking the oval shaped structure with a tiny hole in it..i found a few when i was a kid and it was hard enough feeling for egg's with small finger's let alone adult sized hand's..
  21. What about a Wren or a Firecrest/Goldcrest.. .. surelly women must be the breeder or ringer of those little midget's..
  22. After scaffolding for the past 20+ yr's let's just say i have not got the most delicate of finger's..the finger's that do the ringing need to be women or child like..
