thats the one mate dirty fecking waster I watched that a while back what a horrible fooker...they should of cleaned him down with a fire hose everytime he messed himself..i bet he would of stopped doing it sooner or later.

Here's a few pheasant picture's for you i took a few year's back..the ones he caught in these picture's where caught within 100yrd's but they where not full grown adult's..the other one's where and he will of flown them over the 700yrd mark he never nailed the one's you see him chasing in these picture's that are not in his feet..

I suppose it depend's on the amount of cover and bramble where you fly..i would say by using a dog i will get twice as many flight than i would if i did not take the dog..

I think he was spot on in having a go at saving it..i would not have personaly but we are all different..i was parked out side of a vet's year's ago waiting for my mother and this young lass carried a feral pigeon into the vet's..the lass come back out pretty quick and walked off.. 10 min's late the side door opened and this pigeon come flying out and landed on the road infront of me..i give it 2min's and got out the car and walked over to the pigeon..it was fooked with no meat on it's keel so i done what the vet should of done and give it to my ferret's when i got home..

They was obviuosly something wrong with the pheasant and i will put money on it that she will never catch a fit one ever again in fair flight.

I go out on my own like you mate but i dont bother with rabbit's..if i did i would find it pretty hard ferreting and trying to fly the bird at the same time..to be productive and stress free you really need some one to do the ferreting for you.. I do however take a terrier with me for fushing game bird's from cover if needed..because once them game bird's in cover spot the hawk they very rarely break for cover on there own free will.. i have seen me nearly stand on pheasant's some day's rather than them take flight..and i can't imagine how many i have missed in the past when not taking the d

I used to have a female harris myself which nailed a good few bunnies and moorhen's..she was flown pretty regular and had a good level of fitness..she did take 2 pheasant's but both where mugged in long grass..the ones she did try and tail chase burned her of straight away from the start and by the time she had got to where they headed they where long gone.. I now fly a male gos what is twice the speed of a harris and a pure sprinter of the fist.. he still misses a lot more than he catches and it is not uncommon to see a flight go 600yrd's and further even a 1000yrd's on occasion's...so i can

From what i can gather you like harris hawk's.. ..can you re write that post again tomorrow as it has just give me head damage trying to read it.

I know what you mean now when caught on the wing after 150yrd's.. ..ill explain what i think...the harris was following on infront or to the left or right about 148yrd's away from you..that is when the pheasants started to rise about 2yrd's infront of the hawk.. the hawk will of already been in full speed if it spotted the head's bobbing in cover..basicly it's what we call a mugging..
