    Well in all my my born day's this must of been the worst night ever to go out lamping..i did check the weather and it was supposed to be patchy fog but this was serious..i could not see my hand infront of me and while driving to check different spot's i had to go at a snail's pace in the mule as the fences and wall's just appeared from nowhere.. ..i did manage to get a climpse of 4 rabbit's which resulted in Lil getting 4 run's and 4 kill's but i gave up pretty quick as it was far to dangerous for the dog aswell as me and my young mate regarding driving the terrain.. Here is how bad the fog

    That's the way i have done it.. Woodga.. ..and as i was advised by someone who know's what they are doing i was told to use 2 strand's by two proven very experiend snare and trap men.. ..and like i said i'm no expert and i don't bull myself up on the net to make people think i am .. ..i could imagine trying to catch a rat in a rabbit snare would be like trying to catch a fox in 10mm braided wire..

    Neither do i when i know the long range weatherman could well be wrong.. I can't believe you've actually put into words that you need to see a dog work for a whole season to know it's shite. Some of you veterans treat us young lads like the dog game is rocket science and we shouldn't even be slipping a dog until we've spent 10 seasons watching and learning. Let alone have an opinion on a dog. Ignore me and everyone one and learn the hard way like most folk did well beforee the internet appeared .. crack on mate and all the best for the new season,.

    Barrel trap's all the way for me as you can catch two mole's..and a few talpex for any troublsome back filler's..

    Just bury a few a fenn's near the hole's around ther fence line and box them in to stop the dog standing on them..it's a pretty quick way of catching them but make sure you don't get any stones or soil under the trigger plate..

    I have not read all of this thread so i may have missed something... Gaz i'm not having a dig at you in any way but how can you judge a dog.. you are green around the collar as far as runner's go and you may well have to go out with each individual person over a full season to truelly judge his dog.. so you can't really say they are bad or good from one trip out in your own opinion even more so when you don't have the experience yourself.. Regardless of that a good dog is a dog that pleases his owner and no body else's thought's count.. . And again Gaz i'm not having a dig..

    I'm no expert with snares but i have caught a couple of rat's in a similar way to that but i only used two strand's of brass...

    If you get out with the right people who know what they are doing when it come's to training dog's your eye's may well be opened with collie X's ..
