  1. Being cynical, but I don't think there's a 'best cheap scope' ... You either spend to get some decent glass for quality & consistency, or you buy cheap and live with the problems. If its a centre fire, its just false economy putting on a cheap scope. Save up a bit longer & buy a quality one. You won't regret it. Same goes for binos.
  2. Can be a problem when lamping as you can't judge area of target because its dark. I use Docter 6-15x56 which is simply brilliant, however when lamping I don't have the may above x8.
  3. Unfortunately no. Its a stand alone battery operated with an SD card.
  4. Agree mate its a crap lock but it will be 9ft up a tree. I'm fortunate as its in the middle of nowhere.
  5. Thought I'd share some hopefully helpful info on trail cams and security. Just started to wander into the trail cam world and so far very impressed. Initial outing captured a buck & doe early morning, the latter was in darkness but the cam picked it up in black & white. Images to follow when I have enough. One major issue I have is security, or rather lack of it! So I set about trying to get a metal security box from the usual outlets. Unfortunately I couldn't find any that suited this cam so I set about manufacturing one. This is the results: Its a modi
  6. Just bought an Outback cam and have to say I'm impressed. Pictures are very clear and night time ones are great albeit black & white. I'll post some when I've enough footage.
  7. Google is your friend. Buy the DSC book read & learn it. Get a copy of the questions & research & learn the answers back to front. Swot up on all species of deer recognition, learn the seasons for all species for each area off by heart (England, Scotland & NI). Be able to shoot a 4" target at 100yds, prone, sitting & kneeling. Boff up on safety Then go and sit the exam....
  8. No problem at all. If you have a look in my Gallery you'll see the butt extension I've made. Excuse my ignorance but where is your gallery? I'm on phone so hard to navigate! What's the range like for spotting & usable the shooting range? With IR of course.
  9. How do you find looking down the scope when its added around 4 inches to the back of the scope? Looks awkward. Anyone used the longbow set up? Very pricey at 4 grand.
  10. Scottish Woodland, Tilhill have DSC 1 as mandatory conditions for leases. Forestry commission now insist on DSC 2. Will it become mandatory elsewhere? Almost certainly. The Police are already pushing for it as part of FAC approvals. I've mixed feelings as its a helluva imposition for folk who have been shooting for years. On the other hand I learned quite a bit from it. Every days a school day...
  11. some of the high end scopes are not up to much with Nv add-ons due to some of the lens coatings. Hutchey have a look on some of the NV forums, you can build a good Digi NV unit for less than £300 including illumination which will give you 250-300 yards with ease. I've actually spoke to Archer & Zeiss on the subject of lens coatings. Both gave me more or less the same reply that they've no evidence to support this claim. Archer went further & suggested it was an online urban myth to suggest high end optics with coatings under performed cheaper scopes. They reckoned its a myth pe
  12. Luke, As others have said, there's no substitute for quality. I've done the lower end of the market and got by for many years, however now I can afford it, I couldn't go back to anything less than Swaro or Zeiss. My personal preference is Zeiss, but go the extra mile and try & get a bino rangefinder. I have the Victory RF that I picked up second hand for £1000, and they're simply awwsome, especially in low light. The rangefinder works out to a phenomenal range too. With optics, you truly get what you pay for....
  13. Advise doin a search of posts on here about Snipercams... You may get a shock.
  14. Your right, I know nothing about shooting pellet guns....
  15. To go back to the original point; This debate started, with folk on here almost pleased that when taking shots with a pellet gun at distances of ~60yds they werent getting clean kills. That translates to either they arent good enough, or the choice of weapon isnt up to the job. In my opinion, a pellet gun isnt up to taking rabbits cleanly at distances of 60yds, and hence suggested that a more appropriate weapon is used. ie a .22 rim fire. If you dont like my opinion fine, but resorting to abuse means defacto, youve lost the argument. By admitting on an open forum that pellet g
  16. My my, have I upset you? Perhaps your right, I'll stick to talking about real guns, the ones built to dispatch game properly...you do come across as a bit of a cock mind butty Butty? Cock? Irony? Made me smile anyway....
  17. My my, have I upset you? Perhaps your right, I'll stick to talking about real guns, the ones built to dispatch game properly...no, not atall. your just an arrogant arsehole by the sounds of things. someone whos struggling to dispatch game clean, your answer is "biger power", you sound like a yank, they tend to build big powerful cars, with shit handling. same goes here, have all the power you want, if you cant shoot...you cant shoot! simple!just goes to show how "little" experience you have with airguns. infact il go as far to say that youve never shot any pest/vermin/game with any airgun in y

  19. Where i'm from is relevant? I've used airguns loads, and claiming a clean kill at 60 yards with a pellet gun is quite simply fantasy land. Of course, you obviously know more than me........ I think it may be you that is living in a fantasy land, of course a sub 12ftlb air rifle can kill at 60yrds, personally I wouldn't feel comfortable enough to take on a shot at that range, but it doesn't mean people with a lot better ability than you or I can't. Most of my quarry is taken between 15-40yrds, Dependent on conditions and which rifle/caliber I'm using, I do have a clean kill 99% of the ti

  21. Cash back too! I upgraded my old Docter scope & flogged it on fleabay starting at .99p. It sold for £500! Was well used too.
  22. Looks like another scammer on here... Thats 2 in a month. Beware folks.
  23. Personally, I wont use anything else other than Docter. Top quality optics, the best ive used in low light, holds zero spot on, and a couple of hundred quid cheaper than Swaro's. You wont be disapointed.
  24. if its inside the scope it means the seal has failed and the nitrogen has leaked out. Its send back to manufacturer or specialist for repair, suffer it or ditch it I'm afraid. Id think the latter.
