  1. Awesome glass. I've been using them for years and its up there with Zeiss & Swaro. Unfortunately the cost has now caught up with the quality! I would say however if its specifically for low light, then go for a 56mm. 42mm isn't the best for low light.
  2. Budget scopes. You get what you pay for in optics. Search through the forum. There's dozens of posts like this.
  3. Because I use my .243 for various uses, I have variable mag scope; Docter. For lamping foxes its 6-8 mag & for Roe stalking its 6-10. For Reds on open hill its usually 15 ish. Its also useful if taking a fox during the day further out to ramp up the scope to get a bigger & better image. Make is down to what you can afford. But buy cheap and invariably you'll regret it.
  4. Hi. Interested in a white torch. I've had a couple of cree torches but currently using the ND3 Laser. Biggest problem I've hit with torches is overspill light on the moderator & the ND3 is the only equipment that doesn't cause light flare back into the scope. Have you tried it on a CF with a moderator?
  5. 10-50 is too much mag. Considering usual killing zone for lamping is 50-150 yds, you'll be hard pressed to lock on to a fox at night with a lamp, with x10 never mind x50. I use a 6-15 scope & I've got it screwed right down to 6 for lamping. Never go much above 8.
  6. Its 2 cams. Swann model from Maplins & Magenan from Aldi. Both can do video or a mixture of both.
  7. You are very welcome. Please update when you catch em!
  8. I started doing this earlier in the year in a new area that's being developed, mostly to see what moving about before and after. The results of clearing the forest have been quite staggering and absolute proof of what can be achieved with a little work. For those considering a DSC level1, and for anyone interested, you can treat this as a bit of species identification fun!
  9. As promised, here are some trail cam shots of Eastern European immigrants picking mushrooms - which incidentally is illegal to do commercially unless you have a license and land owners permission. This lot had neither. This is my other post on the security box: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/topic/296000-trail-cam-security-box/ This one is the Swann camera from Maplins. I don't have a picture of the Aldi one, which is much better. Should have said before, the pictures in black & white are night time shots using the IR LED's. When we discovered these folk wandering about
  10. didn't want to go down this path but it seems your intimateing iam not doin my f*****g bit unless you come up/down for a guided tour you will see what iam up against when I log off in approx. 15 mins (if that's ok ) I will be back out sitting in one place wondering if iam in the right one hearing something moveing, To the next standing in wood quietly listening..... wondering if everyone at home is ok . then wondering if someone is even about this particular night... sit in the old car so I get a different view.... should I be round the other side am I being watched. don't
  11. I can provide some personal advice on trail cams. I've bought two this year and highly recommend them for wildlife. I first bought the Swann one from Maplins but then stumbled on one in Aldi for around the same price. The Aldi one is far better with; side PIR's, temperature stamp and best of all its got a built in screen for on-sight viewing. I had buggers creeping about my shoot and the cams captured all of them! It was Eastern immigrants picking fungi and then hanging around scoffing vodka! I've a few pics I'll upload on a new thread soon of deer. Look in later & I'll upload th
  12. Nosler 95g ballistic tip. Much more expensive than the other bullets but simply the best ammo out there for accuracy & damage. Mind you I'm using it for reds & roe and you could argue its a bit much for roe deer. Last stag I shot just crumpled & didn't move. Awesome round.
  13. I have same binos and use a Bushnell harness. Quick connect buckles and the binos never move & always right where you need them. Bit longer to put on two straps but its on for the day. Highly recommend. Got it on fleabay for £8.
  14. First pair look ok. Second pair are pretty ancient. All depends on lenses etc really.
  15. This happened to me once also. So I wrote to plod with a map of ground and every time I went out there I called them & got an incident number. A pain but gets plod on right side.
  16. Anyone know where I could get one of these, or by chance someone may be selling one? Preferably a 5 shot one. The plastic one I have has a small split which is annoying.
  17. No its for life, and to be honest given your lack of experience I doubt you'd be granted a certificate just now without demonstrating you've at least tried to gain some competence. Go do your DSC first, and see how you do. Then get a wee bit of experience under your belt & take it from there.
  18. Of get a wee bit of insruction, particularly on safety. Why dont you go & do the DSC level 1 or the pre DSC 1. it will give you the basics which the Police will like. .243 is a great all rounder. I use 100g rounds for everything.
  19. Google Seeley gun safes. Just bought a digital one. Well made, reasonable price & multi lock bolts.
  20. My advice as always is, burst the bank on the scope. Swaro, Zeiss, SB, Docter all have outstanding optics. Are they worth £1000 +? of course not, but buying anything with less quality is a big compromise.
  21. Its a difficult one. The smaller scope mounted lights in my opinion arent much good beyond 100m. The larger lights like a light force are just too big & clumsy, & requires a big a/h batter, although the range is good. I use the ND3 laser which in the right conditions will light up a fox at 200m sufficiently for shooting. Downside its not cheap. Other option is NV which racks up the cost. I guess you get what you pay for.
  22. As others have said, buy second hand and you'll get your money back when you sell it. Zeiss, S&B, Swaro & Docter. I'm a total fan of Docter which is basically Zeiss but a couple of hundred £'s cheaper. I bought one yeas ago on EBay second hand for £400 & sold it recently for £450.
