Dogs That Have Tried Your Patients Past And Present .
fitchet replied to BRICKTOP's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
They only dogs I get pissed off with are my day dog and my mates pup I'm looking after. It's bred for the day but already is a stubborn thing the few kills he's had in the day he just stands looking for the next took him out yesterday evening had a cracking run and a catch but just stood there staring into the distance as usual as I'm walking down the fence line towards him a deer skips out of the spindly hedge I'm going through and takes off across an open field. I'm sure you can guess the rest also this young dog is the worst for crying. I was down visiting a friend for a few runs about a mo -
How tall mate ? Very nice.

I've a smart young pup out of a Mali/herder to a Mali dog. A friend owns the dam sire and gran sire and has kept the same family for a few years and when he breeds to replace his own stock he likes to keep the number of pups right down as they are hard to put into decent working homes. wanted an active dog but also wanted a dog I could leave in the yard now and then and not worry about it getting too frustrated. I've owned both GSD and Malis have always preferred a good shepheard personally. Atb

Seen a pic of one on Paul dooleys website very racy for a first x looked similar to some of the coursing stuff about. Atb with the pup.

Hydrogen peroxide 6% is good stuff and cheap.

A keeper friend of mine has not long been gifted a 1/4 grey 3/4 bull and although we've only been running it a couple of weeks it's almost indestructible has done everything we've asked of it it's very good in heavy woodland and cover and has put abit away when I first see this dog I didn't think it would turn a rabbit let alone anything else but it certainly proved me wrong I've got a 3/8 5/8th brill little dog for the flinty ground locally if I get another bull cross I'd like one put back to a tested coursing dog similar to Roy's litter off here think they'd be handy enough for my type of ru

Depends what foxes your running I think if your only after September cubs at stubble time You'll do ok without bull blood owned a few coursing dogs that would shake a fox I've seen small lurchers kill a few but a good few dogs bull/greys included get sickened come December January time when the easy ones have been taken even more so if you like them doing it singlehanded IMO.

Depends what your after I suppose vin I had a ferret given to me when I was younger a big albino hob this thing was a killer the feller I got him off used him like an old liner ferret but with a mk1 collar on instead. Whilst he was working a warren I'd follow him with the locater and if he stopped for more than a few seconds I'd mark it with a stick if not too deep and dig down to a dead rabbit. If it was alive he'd stay allday this was eventually his undoing as a lad I was out with put him to ground uncollared. Set traps and visited the site as much as I could for a fortnight and never got hi

Any body on here into there racers ?? Had tipplers and competition rollers just fancy abit of a change so culled a few of the rollers and tips and sorted out a loft for a few pairs a lot of people near me keep racers but they don't seem to like new people coming into the sport lol I'm buying some white racers to start with supposed to be rapido beuscharts what these lines like ? Also I'm sort of under the impression it can be like a full time job is it better to get older or younger birds to start with ? just wanting to hear a few experiences of people keeping them. All the best.

Just out of interest mate what made you go down the bull/grey route instead of decent greyhound or coursing stock ?? Atb with finding them decent homes id be interested in seeing them go when older would be handy for the right person.

I had a dog done this heavily it was becuase i was praising it for marking warrens the dogs reward should be a rabbit bolting not praise. But how do you know it's deffo a false mark and not shit ferrets or mixy rabbits being killed quickly below ?

Must admit I've seen a couple of bedlington whippets work seen one that is supposed to be a rated ferreting dog lets just say my ferrets stayed in the carry box it was fine until there was a drop in the action then if it didn't feck off hunting up it would have head down a hole whining. I've never seen one bring live rabbits back to hand either. Then there's one I know of not straight beddie/whippet but Beddie/grey x whippet I think great nose on him and finishes his quarry with minimum of fuss for his size I've seen him have some testing runs and I've never heard him open up the only downsid

Had a few shepherds over the years some total headcases that never lived long but on the whole decent workable dogs. A mate has a litter of shepheard x Malis at the minute have to say if it gels right that would be the route if go down if I needed another.

Cheers taz mate got my eye on some pups a keeper has up the road for next season having a look at them Friday but could do with a little tyke to help out with the workload this year if I can find something suitable. Atb

Well like everyone I'm still waiting for abit of rain to get the runners out and although it's still abit warm me and a mate have been doing abit with the terriers and it's made me realise what I'm missing out on by not having one around for this season. I know good terriers are never sold but if anyone is abit over dogged or has a dog that doesn't quite meet there standard but isn't useless or just something that needs bringing on but showing good sighns i can offer it a warm kennel decent grub and plenty of work. I'm in the south but Will travel anywhere within reason Can also offer a few da

I've used high flyers a very decent service for both pigeons and poultry I was impressed with how they keep them in transport too plenty of shavings good boxes allways on time an pretty cheap to boot.

Pup looks well mate matured nicely how are the others in the litter getting on ? I've normally gotta wait till after Christmas till the reed beds around here a flat enough for a mooch. Atb
-
Cheers mate not a million miles from me will give them a call if I don't have any luck was speaking to an old boy local to me who keeps a few high flyers he reckons he may know of a few so I'm hopefull. I'll pm you gnipper I'm down South. Also can anyone reccomend any good pigeon/poultry couriers ? Cheers.

I use it as a spare or sometimes mix it with other feed it's ok stuff but I've allways fed it along with flesh and other dry food so haven't used it enough to say. I might stick my dogs on it for abit see how they get on. A fella around the corner uses it and rates it for his day dogs and he's out a lot. Atb
