  1. It's hard work but not impossible. I've heard of people keeping whole litters and bringing them on themselves. My dad had two pup from different litters he kennelled them separate and didn't take them out too much together. One was an ok rabbiters would catch 5s and 6s on rabbits in a night and the other wasn't much good at all one thing he did say is you tend to favour one over the other.. I'd rather bring on 2 pups than run a pup on with it's dam. Atb
  2. Your right mate still alot of cover about got asked to move some rabbits out of a spinney Sunday night had a look round but even with the shotguns it will be hard work and i cant be arsed to snare and trap them so passed the permission on to a lad whos just starting out. We will have to get a day out this season mate. Atb
  3. Webley tracker. It's sat in the shed it's bin there about 6 year I've only ever shot a handful of pigeon with it very inconsistent and inaccurate.
  4. I've seen rieciepts from the police force for gsd pups off a well known breeder/trainer near me ... I think the price was about £400 or thereabouts .....
  5. Fenns a cracker but they are all a credit to you. Atb.
  6. Anyone bothered getting out with the ferrets yet and if so what's this seasons prospects looking like ?? Had a good outing at the weekend lovely sandy warrens piss easy and built up a nice bag quickly. Seems rabbit numbers are well up there's year with little signs of mixy. Anyone else planning a trip out soon ? Atb
  7. Thought about this thread yesterday was out with a mate I've known for years and his half x dog. Dog was slipped on a nice boggy field the run followed onto a very stony stubble field. Found the dog with his catch but also with a broken leg. Sickening start to the season.
  8. Yes his fathers an exgamekeeper he used to look after an estate in my old village before my time though. He used to work in a school down the road from kate middletons parents washing pots and pans. He proposed to a friends untie but was told by her father that his duaghter would never marry a pot cleaner so im told.
  9. Not all ground is solid. There's a few places that are ok for a run. There's a few nice sized sandy fields near me was out on them this morning it was fine for the dogs to have a run on.still could do with a nice few nights rain I hate this heat.
  10. I find a mechanics light helps. Had to use one for a few months and normally take one out with me regular now. My dogs have been lucky so far they've dropped a few bits with hardly any injuries even on some of the horrendously stony land near me house.cant as for mor I suppose.
  11. Part and parcel of hunting early season. I've made the mistake before slipping the dog on hares after the cut ground bieng far too hard.
  12. Grounds abit hard but popped out for a look just had the dogs running loose managed one that is only fit for ferret food. I'll be out before work tomorrow aswell. Atb
  13. 2 lurchers 1 terrier. Bagged a fair bit with the 2 lurchers last year they compliment each other well so looking forward to this season. Atb
  14. Sorry to hear mate. R.i.p Bob. Atb
  15. Aye I remember slipping my big Beddy x on a rabbit well over 100 yards she was just clicking to the lamping game was very impressed with the way she was sailing out the beam the rabbit and the rock was about 6 feet apart couple inch of grass in a silage field big smile on my face and she struck the rock lol she still caught the rabbit but f**k me I could hardly hold the lamp. Wouldn't be the first time I've slipped a dog on a tuft on grass or a woodcock on a windy night either lol strange how the wind in your eyes and darkness plays tricks with your eyes. little owls are the bane of my lif
  16. Bitch is looking topnotch mate should have a good season with them two they should suit you well atb.
  17. Brilliant pics mate love the look of that swift she is truly a beautiful animal credit to you. Atb
  18. I've seen some lurchers that would bite if someone tried removing them from there kennels. I got an AB/old English bulldog who suits my needs very well. I like a lazy guard than a schizo Mali or shepherd. Mine does ok but realistically a guard dog Isnt much of a problem for Thieves. However they do have a place along with other deterrents ....
  19. There's a caimen forsale in a pet shop near mine fella reckons it would set you back best part of £2500 to get everything you need o keep it ....
  20. Bedwhippet like that dog in the background how's it bred ??? I've put a few pics up of mine before so won't bother again he knocked over a few last season but was still very puppyish he's started this season with a lot more seriousness now so well pleased.
  21. I looked on there the other day and thought the pups looked little on the lean side, and by their eyes a bit unsocialised,Reckon a bit of raw meat /butchers waste would help. Anyone know how many litters are on the ground at the same time? They are fed on shit mate fishmeal based dry food. I always laugh when I hear running dog owners say "I went to Hancock becuase at least I know exactly what I'm getting".yes you might be getting a genuine colliex but who knows what badhabits are waiting to surface yapping, running quarry but not picking it up,ect if the parents aren't tested and are only br
  22. Haha why did you go for the dog this time? My take on it is simple... What do you gel with..?? I've kept enough of both over the years and for me, I like a good bitch. Feel more comfortable working a bitch. Nowt wrong with dogs, to be honest I do well with 'em, the best dog i've owned was a dog but I know I bond better with a bitch... Oh yer, this new pup... It was exactly what I was looking for after a very long search and a dog was what was available... Makes no difference IMO, blood outweighs gender in working dogs... Amen to that last bit ....
  23. I wouldnt worry about mate mine come back looking like that regular. My saluki/just got on something sat out on a grass field he followed it through a big wood couple of seconds later i hear the squealing. Found him out in the field stood over his quarry looking like hes had a fight with a lawn mower .,,,
  24. Had both but give me a good dog over a good bitch anyday.
  25. He's a beast of a dog mate FairPlay to ya. Atb
