Greyhound Owners....head In The Clouds???....
fitchet replied to B.P.R's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I had a women walking to of the most unhealthiest running dogs I've ever seen telling me that my collie x should be on a lead as they will chase anything that moves. Me and the mrs just burst out laughing to which she replied "people like you shouldn't be aloud retired racers" which made me laugh even more sending her into a right fit. Whilst she was shouting her mouth off she was interrupted by her 2 dogs nearly pulled her arms out of the sockets at a cat scurrying across the road ... All the time my dogs just sat there not paying a blind bit off notice. She calmed down and looking abit sheep -
cant like your post so: Always tickles me when people put their chosen quarry and methods up on a pedestal above all others and slate any other who does different.. Deer stalkers and day walkers are by far the worse for it IMO.. I can't really see where I've put my method "on a pedestal" if I've come across that way I apolagise as I use guns aswell as dogs. Atb

No. What I mean is the farmers and shooters that enjoy shooting huge bags of hares on driven shoots often think they can come back year after year and get the same numbers. Not ALL but but a FEW. Not shooting a dozen or so for the pot.

If someone was trying to kill me i'd rather they done it with a shotgun than a wee air rifle. Lets not pretend that all air rifle owners are John Wayne.Dead is dead I suppose but air gun lads are not going to dent there numbers very much and I've seen far more hares bieng wounded by shotguns than I have air guns. I use both and have attended one or two driven hare days when I was younger with 200+ hares bieng shot. Crying shame IMO. Atb I wouldnt shoot a hare either unless i was instructed too. The fact that there were 200+ shot is a clear indication that there are too many in the first place

I'd put a nice collie/greyxdeerhound/grey over her mate. Seen one dog bred this way is brilliant at everything. Atb in what you decide.
-
Nice looking dog. Wouldnt say there's any AB in it though in my opinion. How did you come by the dog Adam??
-
I had a dog the same mate wasn't interested in me and was almost feral. Took me a while to get there with him but he's become the bests dog in my kennels. Best of luck.
-
In my view mate for the amount of work I'd be giving a first season dog they don't need to be highly conditioned at all. Just keep them at a level of fitness your happy with. Atb

None of mine would come into the house even if I wanted them too. My old boy won't settle at night in the house either, The way I look at it I'd hate once bieng an owners pride and joy then getting too old and seeing the young dogs go out and earn there keep. It's nothing to do with kennel space for me it's doing what I think is right. The dogs I have here will struggle with getting old. I trained reared entered and worked them and they have a good life with me. What more could a dog ask for.

I got one retired dog here. He's served me well and is perfectly mannered. I have room here for him and he's still got a good nose and accompanies me on weekends ferreting away from home aswell as the odd mooch local. But the others I got here if they make old age they will be pts. They are not suitable as companions and I'd rather the dog be painlessly pts than bieng denied and punished for things they've been bred to do. Not every one has room for veterans and once a dog enters my kennels it here for the rest of its life. And a good life they have too. Atb

You airgun boys aint doing no harm by taking a few for the pot so crack on in my opinion, better than them bieng wounded by a bunch of overseas hunters on a driven hare shoot.

Stunners them. Like the white one Atb. -
The sire looks like a real "run anywhere" tough sort of dog .... Hope all goes well. Atb

That dog In the top pics is a cracker and the pup is a stunner Atb.

a big fallow stag was a step to far for me mate, I've seen big fallow bucks make some big strong tough dogs look very silly ...in one case killed .... Also seen some men squeal like girls around them ...

LOI think a lot of people are basing there limited opinions on that video. I've driven fields and walked the same ones on foot. It's all horses for courses same reason we all run different crosses ect. If we all done it the same the lurcher game would be shit. Some of the best nights out though have been in a motor some good laughs some good dogs and some good quarry. Remember there's a lot of lads who don't feel the need to brag about how much they've taken in a night or how much they can bag by walking in there areas. Along as we are all getting are dogs behind quarry does it really matter h

I think alot of people just like the look of a well kept white dog. Nice litter mate should make nice little dogs in the right hands any pics of the sire ?? Atb
