  1. CC I know you've had a couple of walthers, might be more members on here too, but you've spoken of them recently. Would you say the terrus is a better rifle than say a 99 or a lightning etc? I have only had one mate the LGV, I have no experience of the terrus, I have had just about every quality springer going over the years, tuned and untuned, and I can say hand on heart, that LGV was the best spring rifle I have ever used, it was lazer accurate, smooth as silk, and with a moderator fitted, almost pcp quiet, the only thing not as good as Weihrauch or AA is the trigger, dont get me wrong i
  2. To be fair, I had a .177 lightning xl which was accurate, powerful, and light to carry around, I intended to tune it just to see what could be achieved, however my mate drove me mad wanting to buy it, so I let him have it,I rather liked it,but one thing that has always annoyed me about the BSA break barrels is that fecking pin they use for the barrel pivot, yes its been used since the dinosaurs, but why the hell did they not change it and use a bolt like the Germanic rifles have done for so long, it was loud and twangy, but I reckon with a tune could have been quite nice, its not that the cheaper
  3. Yes without a doubt, but a bit of time spent fettling will get you a rifle of vastly superior quality.
  4. Why not book a days stalking with a reputable guide, or through the BASC stalking scheme (you need to be a member) you will learn a great deal, have a good day out, possibly shoot a deer, and obtain some superb meat for your freezer (if you wish to retain the carcass) experience gained in such a way is excellent, and will stand you in very good stead, if and when you apply for your own rifle.
  5. loads on ebay I haven't ever bought a scope new. All mine have arrived either with a second hand rifle, or bought from ebay. I have always gone for named brands. Reading the forums tells you which are the good makes and the best models. Clarity of the glass is better than range of magnification. A Mildot reticle is a wise choice as you can learn the pellet drop. IR - illuminated reticle can be handy for dark backgrounds but treat it as a convenient feature rather than a must have. And... take the advice that is offered as it comes from experience. Pesky Spot on
  6. A redtail would be a good place to start Tom,you will learn a lot more flying a red than a Harris, and when you get it wrong a red will let you know in no uncertain terms usually resulting in pain, the grip on a redtail has to be felt to be believed, some Goshawks can be a bit temperamental, but its all in the manning really, you get out what you put in,but to get the best out of a Harris a sensitive approach is required also, they have a very strong aversion to feeling robbed,it seems to offend their sense of fairness.
  7. Yes mate you could, I would not bother re zeroing though, just shoot for the bull so to speak and check group size (unless you really want to) give the hunter extreme a go too mate.
  8. Give the H&N Baraccuda hunter extreme a try too mate, my old 77 loved them, my current pcp loves them too, they are absolutely deadly, drop everything on the spot.
  9. I should,if things work out be flying a Goshawk this year
  10. Sako make some superb rifles mate, the Finnfire was no exception, to be fair, most manufacturers produce a decent rimfire, CZ, Anchutz, to name a couple, the bolt actions are pretty much as good as each other in terms of accuracy, a bit like pcp air rifles, paying more tends to get you a better trigger, wood, smoother action etc, but its in the world of semi auto's that the custom people like RF magic come into their own, I shot one of their tricked up Ruger 1022s and the trigger was superb the action like silk, and it was very very accurate, go on Tom treat yourself pal.
  11. Absolutely, so where were the police, to protect a group practising a tradition in their own land that goes back deep into our past, can you imagine the level of response by the law if a group of English people started heckling and threatening a group of ethnics carrying out a traditional dance/celbration important to their culture,in an English town centre, but no as usual they are nowhere to be seen when it comes to protecting their own folk.
  12. Totally agree mate, 90% of my shooting at this time of year, be it airgun quarry, fox, deer, duck is conducted at or near to dusk, and it is a time I really enjoy being out, that brief window where the daylight creatures meet the night time denizens, apart from the shooting, I find it very peaceful and rather relaxing, there is for me at least, something very earthy and rather ancient about sitting in a wood on your own as its going dark
  13. I remember it well, I saved up my pocket money and sold a few things until I had the princely sum of £41.00 for a brand new BSA Mercury, the old man bought me a BSA scope (cant remember the magnification) to go on it, well I could not hit a bloody thing, due I think to the scope constantly creeping back, anyway I took it off and used the iron sights, something I did for a good few years, I am still a pretty decent shot with iron sights, and I think all youngsters learning with an air rifle should cut their teeth on Iron sights before using a scope, I have a good pal who I grew up with, and he
  14. Think my choice there bud would be the Bisley, I think you will find if you used a half tin full and leaded the barrel up, that group would close up even more, that said the field target trophy aint to shabby either.
  15. Why do you need to shoot a rabbit at 60 yards? It's not the scope that will do that, it's the gun and ability. IMO it's too far for a regular airgun, especially for a new shooter. I quite agree 60 yards is a bloody long way with a sub12ftlbs air rifle, and as Walshie points out especially for a new shooter, on the subject of scopes a quality 3-9x32 will out perform a cheap x56 scope anyday, you get what you pay for pal, the instructions for your scope assume you will be fitting it to a centrefire rifle, not a puny air rifle, hence the hundred yards zero instructions.
  16. An example of Rimfire magic offerings. About £850 as good as a semi auto rimfire gets, carbon fibre barrel,re worked action, superb.
  17. Its actually quite nice, simple but crisp without a lot of creep, I will get another one at some point, I tell you what, they are bloody accurate, and you can get the multi shot mag too.
  18. Get the cp1 one mate, I had one, great pistol, the only thing I would have over it is the Sheridan co2 pistol if you can find one, they are brilliant, and with a head shot will kill a rabbit or rat at 10-15 yards.
  19. It would be overkill on a bloody .338 for me, but seriously at 32 times mag surely anything but the most expensive glass is going to be pretty useless?
  20. Yes mate it proves that a .177 will always have a little more recoil when firing close to the legal limit, something I am more than happy to put up with for the flat shooting a .177 gives, your groups are good, the rifle is consistent, and powerful, and smooth, be content, you have done a good job, one last thing, dont bother with that piston sleeve, remove all the grease from the piston and spray it with dri slide, a little pure silicon oil on the seal, you will get no deiseling, and you wont have the chance of consistency being ruined by the piston sleeve, something I have found in the past,
  21. Thats because it was a Remington 597 lol, along side the standard Ruger 10/22 these rifles are cheaply made American rifles that are meant for kids to shoot tin cans in the back garden, and a bit of pest control, no wonder a quality pcp air rifle would out shoot it at 50 yards, now the Ruger for instance has a whole industry built around it, in terms of tuning and tweaking, there is a company in Barnsley called rimfire magic who do some amazing things with 10/22s totally transforming them from backyard fun gun to super accurate carbon fibre barrelled semi auto works of art, expensive? Well for
