Reloading Different Cases
charlie caller replied to rtaylor's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Indeed he did, privy brass is good but rather thick I suspect, my current loads are with federal brass and I must say I am liking it more than Winchester and hornady up to now. -
Don't get all anal and worried about seating depth, and the only way to accurately measure the OAL on your rounds is with a comparator, measuring with calipers wont give an accurate measurement due to the varying lengths of bullets, load them to the spec given in your load data, concentrate on getting the basics of case preparation right, and weighing your powder accurately, then find the most accurate load, and then if you really must play with seating depth do it then, oh and by the way the Lee hand press is a brilliant bit of kit I would not be without mine, in fact I am going to get another

Exact view as this mine is heavy but unless your 8 stone wet through its not going to be a major issue, it's incredibly accurate. I also have a Browning A bolt in .223 which is quality but the T3 is better As Seeker says the t3 is a very good rifle,I don't think it is particularly heavy if it is then it is well balanced, if it is a light rifle you fancy then probably an A bolt would suit you, but remember if you are going for a .270 it will kick a bit more being lighter, you cant go wrong with a Howa/Weatherby, the only slight criticism is the triggers are a little heavy, but 25 quid a

Stick to rabbits dude, then no grey areas, lot more fun anyway and builds tremendous fitness, and don't forget the odd hare always gets caught, not that I would advocate lamping hares, its far too easy, but sometimes it cant be helped, sure the bird don't mind

Looking For Advice On A New Hatsan Escort
charlie caller replied to atlanta1000's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Sorry to piss on your bonfire mate but it is a hatstand, take it back to the shop get your money back and buy a decent semi, they are a pile of crap and only fit to be used as a hatstand, a shop local to me now refuses to have them in the shop, he had so many back after selling them. -
Well it sounds like you are commited mate, I would get your buddy to teach you how to make equipment (assuming he makes his) this can save a suprising amount of cash, and is rewarding too, I try to make everything I can myself, there are lots and lots of really good tutorials on the net, the modern apprentice is a good one with lots of info on making anklets to hawk boxes, good luck mate and let us know how its going

Asking For A Open Ticket?
charlie caller replied to tomdean's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I think you will be very lucky indeed to get your ticket opened up after just 5 months experience,I think you will find after you have had your mentor condition lifted you will be subject to a period of shooting on ground passed safe for the calibre, and then get it opened once you have proved yourself, you can ask but I would wager a bob or two on that being the reply. -
A fine set of 14 point red stag antlers taken in airsaig Scotland, these are a stunning set of antlers that would look great on a wall, gunroom ect, bargain at £75.00 collected or will send by courier for a nominal fee, pick up from Sheffield, pm for details, cheers.

What Is Your Setting Depth Away From Rifling ??
charlie caller replied to GEOFF.223's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
The 204 ruger is fussy about seating aparently For the .223 most guys on the net are on average 30thou back lands. But 20 is most common for accuracy. Still waiting on my powder cert to come back to get a few rounds brewed up I have hornedy federal and top shot brass to try out I will give them all a fair trial with a selectoon of different loads. Powder cert? Do you mean you are storing blackpowder, as a special cert is not required for nitro power, as I said be as anal as you like about seating depth, but if you don't get the basics spot on you can adjust your seating die until hell -
Have a look now dude.

What Is Your Setting Depth Away From Rifling ??
charlie caller replied to GEOFF.223's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
.243 gn Sierra blitz col. 2.635" no idea how far off the lands that is, what I do know though is that the vast majority of rifles prefer a jump to the rifling, so I just set mine at the length in the data, and I particularly found reloading the .22 hornet that changes in seating depth made bugger all difference to accuracy, however careful case prep, flaring the case and crimping the bullet made a massive difference, imho people get far too anal about seating depth, and instead should concentrate on the other factors more. -

Dangerous Idiot Shooting Pigeons
charlie caller replied to beast's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
My feeling 100% the guy is a complete arsehole and does not deserve to have a shotgun, speak to the landowner, make your feelings well known, out of order mate, get him sorted. -
Dangerous Idiot Shooting Pigeons
charlie caller replied to beast's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well I tell you what I would do I would march up to the landowners door, and tell him what a dangerous idiot he has allowed onto his property, if it happens again you will film him and contact the police, the landowner will not want the hassle and will probably tell the co-ck to feck off -
Weatherby vanguard .243 (same rifle) spot on fitted it with a Boyds laminate stock, target crown job, with handloads it will shoot a ragged one hole group @ 100 yards, I would recommend one to anyone the engineering is superb, like most jap stuff built to very tight tolerances, get one.

Well thanks lads I really appreciate the help and support, I have spoken to a lad tonight in brum who has one or two and sounds like a sound lad so fingers crossed, he has a male with (his words feet like a trex) so its looking promising again, stuff happens for a reason eh boys?
-
Well after ordering my male redtail I was rather pleased, not so pleased when the breeder phoned me the other day to tell me he was taking the eggs away as they are infertile/not hatched, so back to square one, if anyone knows of anybody breeding any reds can you please let me know, I know of one or two but they are a million miles away, I don't mind travelling but a 500 mile round trip is not for me, cheers lads, its a male I am after.

Would You Pay £200 For Your Gun Licence?
charlie caller replied to Philluk's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
The simple answer is yes if I have to, dosent mean I have to like it, however I would just make a conscious effort to put 40 quid a year away to pay for it, lets face it boys if the powers that be think they will stop us from having firearms by hiking the price up then why not show them it wont?
