Cannot Get A Decent Group .223
charlie caller replied to fiona22's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Spot on mate,my feelings are it is you at fault rather than the rifle, closing your eyes at the shot, TBH I am surprised the grouping is not worse. -
where did you get the load liner mate?

Right Handed Left Eye Dominant
charlie caller replied to Craig Fosse's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Well just to be awkward, I am left handed right eye dominant, the only time I struggle is on long left to right crossers, and to get over it I partially close my right eye (if I remember lol) and it works for me,but also the advice about spotting the target with both eyes open and then closing one eye is also good,or you could just shell out and have a crossover stock made for your gun -

Wanted Rabbit Hunting Permission South Yorkshire
charlie caller replied to Tornado1979's topic in Rabbit Shooting
Don't get me wrong pal I wish you luck,I know how hard it can be,the chances of anyone sharing their hard earned permission with you after a couple of posts on here is to say the least slim, fair play to you for getting off your arse and trying, but now it might be time to think outside the box a bit,try a different area, and have you got anything to offer the landowner? Yes I know if you are killing his rabbits you are doing him a favour(in our eyes)but farmers can be a funny breed, some would rather have swarms of rabbits rather than let someone they don't know shoot, try offering a bit of h -
Sandy's have always been my favourite,in part due to the fact that my best workers overall, over the years have been sandy, and I like the look of em too.
-
Pester him and get your money's worth pal, bit of rabbiting thrown in ect.

Well plenty of time to think of summat, maybe buy a day somewhere on mass,I will make a few enquiries, and of course I will have to concentrate on getting mr stubborn redtail going first lol.
-
Sounds a bit harsh when you have previously had it for nothing, but that's the way of the world mate, depends how good the shooting is if its mediocre, bin it and go elsewhere, if its good pay up and keep shooting, any chance of getting anything else out of the syndicate, ie foxing, duck shooting ect?
-
Well mate if you get a 90 you will certainly notice the difference between that and a jimny, you will have driven the jimny loads and spent nothing on it,then when you get a landrover you will spend more time mending it than driving it,I should know I used to be a landrover mechanic.

Wanted Rabbit Hunting Permission South Yorkshire
charlie caller replied to Tornado1979's topic in Rabbit Shooting
Mate a bit of advice, get door knocking like we all have to,YOU WILL NOT GET OFFERED ANY ON HERE IT IS NOT FARMERS WEEKLY. -
Splendid idea mate the only problem I can see is whos got the best land for the job, I can imagine one or two of my farmers having a bloody heart attack if they saw a group out together, and the ones that would not mind don't really have enough quarry to support a field meet, but it would be a bloody good day that's for sure, and of course we would have to stay somewhere the night and get thoroughly pissed after its against the rules not to you know, lol
-
Cheers mate, I went to see the breeder on sat, and he has two pairs, with both females on eggs and he reckons they are due in the next week, just an educated guess I suppose, as they haven't hatched yet we had a quick peek at them, bloody hell if my male has feet like either of his I saw I don't think a lot will be escaping lol, and yes we will get out mate, I will try and get out with everyone on here who has kindly offered to join forces for a hunt
-
Yep I am looking foreward to it,I cant imagine a more horrid thing than an imprint redtail, so it will be parent reared all the way,I will just have to have that bit more patience than with a Harris, but I think it will be worth it, cant wait to hammer some tree rats.
-
To be honest he will get his chance at pretty much all quarry,Im not too bothered about catching hares, but if he takes the odd one that's ok,he is going to give the local tree rats a hard time, and lots and lots of lamping, and if the odd pheasant ends up in the bag I will be a happy bunny(no pun intended) and of course work with my mates springer and the ferrets, there is something I just love about the Neanderthal redtail attitude, and as said a good one is lethal.
-
Well I am all for each to his own way of doing things, but I have always leaned towards Martin Holinshead way of doing things,if the bird is tethered or freelofted, why not still have some contact with it,bow it out sometimes, the odd lure chase to maintain a bit of fitness, and when the time to hunt comes round again, there is so much less work to do,a drop in weight, some fitness training, lure ect then out hunting,I did it that way with my last female HH and had no problems at all,it MAY slow the moult down a fraction(although I did not notice this)but again I think it is worth it come hunting ti

Show Us Your Reloasing Setups :)
charlie caller replied to GEOFF.223's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
Don't need one I use the Lee hand press, brilliant bit of kit, that I would recommend to all reloaders, ideal for taking to the range load developing, playing with seating depth ect. -
It is quite simple pal, all you need do is ring or write to tv licensing, tell them you don't have a tv, and invite them to call and satisfy themselves that you don't have one,job done, I have done just this myself, dont make life difficult for yourself,if you genuinely don't have a tv, them you have nothing to hide.

Hmmm well as an observation from someone who both shoots foxes and has hunted them with dogs,I have yet to see a dog, good bad or indifferent, kill a fox stone dead at 350 yards, the op is using the wrong bullet to shoot them, end of,if he switches back to Vmax,Sierra blitz,Nossler bt, ect then every fox he points at will be stone dead, and I can assure you he will not need a dog to follow them up,they will be turned inside out.In fact I will offer a challenge,I will bet 500 quid that if you put me in front of say 10 foxes,I will assuming I hit them, flatten every one stone dead, there hows that,u

.22 Hornet Buying Help
charlie caller replied to Young gun 96's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Deffo go for the cz mate,it wont let you down,I would advise you to reload for your hornet mate,it is the way to get the best out of them, factory ammo with the exeption of Hornady 35 grn vmax is pretty pedestrian, and expensive,my cz loved the Sierra 45gn sp. -
Ye Jap electrics are usually very good,my mate has a MOT garage and he tests quite a few as he is in a rural area, and he says they very rarely need anything mechanical for a test like track rod ends springs shocks ect,he rates em very highly indeed, took mine for a test in jan and it flew through.
-
Got one,the later 1328 cc engine, had it in 3 foot of snow recently, with road tyres on at that, and it was brilliant, I love mine, it really will go anywhere, not too bad on motorways providing you keep the speed sensible, the only downside as mentioned is room, but you can get by, all round a great little jeep, get one.
-
To add mate you can have the trout fishing as well, just pick a section of chalk stream, tell em Charlie has okd it.
