  1. Yes mate it does, feed him on the lure, you can call him to the fist but when he land toss the food on the ground that way he is moving away from you to the food, but try and feed his whole ration on the lure, just the odd titbit on the glove, he needs to get killing mate, he will probably quieten down then, but there are no guarantees.
  2. Hi here is my superb Anschutz .22 carbine, it features the match grade bull 14" barrel, match trigger, silky smooth bolt, and some very nice wood that the photos don't really do justice to, I have owned this rifle from brand new, it is in immaculate condition and has been meticulously maintained,it is stunningly accurate and will head shoot bunnies all day @90 yards, it comes with a PH moderator, 10 shot magazine,4x40 ir mildot scope and quality mounts, also the original instruction manual, a carbine length bag and a nice leather sling, you are welcome (on production of a valid fac) to try before
  3. Not sure on the Winchesters mate, but if I were you I would try some Sierra if you can get some they do a vast range in .224,and I have yet to see a rifle that does not like them, I am surprised your rifle did not like the vmax, it would be worth trying another powder first before buying another box of bullets, look on Hodgdon reloading data site, for a huge list of .22-250 data, if you could blag a bit of different powder from a mate and try that you might be pleasantly surprised, I don't load for .22-250 but where did you get your data from with your current powder?
  4. If he hasent lost it already, and that's why he is not responding.
  5. That is a trait of PH rifles mate, if it shoots well, and is reasonably priced I would not worry about it,after all its how the bolt locks up that counts, they are generally very accurate rifles, if its really cheap, send it off and have it blueprinted, but it would not worry me.
  6. Yes Rake those Federal, 8o gn do work well, out of my rifle they shoot nearly as well as my home loads, I use grain Sierra blitz, awesome on fox and deer.
  7. I agree with Deker its a .243 mate don't worry too much about bullet choice, the vmax type bullets like the 58 grain will stop them like a light switch going off as they expand very quickly, but deer bullets will also kill them quickly, but be aware that the deer bullet will pass through a fox even @ 200 yards so be very sure of your backstop (as you would of course with any bullet) they may run 10 yards or so with their chin on the deck with deer bullets but will be dead as they are running.
  8. Spot on advice there mate,I would also include a signed and dated letter with your variation form, stating you have the good reason for the calibre, land to shoot it on and outline your experience with firearms, your own and any knowledge you have gained from shooting/stalking with friends ect, it all helps and SHOULD help you avoid the dreaded mentor condition, good luck.

Get out and find him a nice cock pheasant to get his little feet into mate
  10. I love hammer guns, there is just something about them, I have a Baikal 16 bore hammer gun and it shoots great.
  11. Agreed just get somebody to show you the ropes pal, spend your cash on equipment for the bird when you get it.
  12. I don't really understand your post, you feed it through a shoot, but take it out everyday????????? What for a walk? What you should be doing is taking it hunting/training and if you have a blank day, feed the bird its whole ration on the lure, then at least it has had some success, and feels like it is feeding itself, so what are you doing with it when you take it out, do enlighten us?
  13. A .22 hornet is fine on rabbits providing you head shoot them, and I head shot a lot up to and probably a bit more than 200 yards with mine, but I was shooting super accurate home loads, that .17 certainly seems to work, would I have one in place of a hornet? Probably not, I would have the daddy of .17s the .17 rem, but then I do enjoy reloading, so for the none reloader its probably a good choice, IF your firearms dept will sanction it for foxes, if not I fail to see the point of it, a hornet wins everytime.
  14. Well I can and that is what 35 grain vmax do, very explosive and foxes feel like a hot water bottle inside.

Well done lad, now get him killing, you got ten days off work (lucky sod) get him out and show him as much game as you can, I wish you had been with me yesterday as well bloody pheasants everywhere.
  16. When it snows heavy, get out asap you will nearly always see a good number out in those conditions, sometimes you don't even need the lamp.
  17. That is what a .22 hornet does with 35 grain vmax, exactly why I switched to the Sierra 45 grain varminter, super accurate, it would head shoot bunnies time after time at 200 yards.

By walking nearer to him mate, he is training you, he is thinking why should I fly all that way the daft sod will walk nearer in a bit, if he wont come, put the food away and try later or the day after, is he still mad for the lure, or havent you tried for a bit?
  19. By the look of the wood to metal fit it looks like it might be reasonable quality, does it have barrels? If so what are they like, condition wise? Ahhh just seen the bit where you said no barrels, doh, good luck finding them mate.

I just make a T perch from a length of handle from an old rake, then bind the top with some innertube rubber held on with cable ties, its a bit heath robinson, but it works and if I want to carry it about, it will sit in my belt or hawking vest straps, don't forget to sharpen the end that goes in the ground.
  22. Eley everytime, RWS group just as well but I think the Eley kill better at range.
  23. Get some Phillips gun barrel cleaner spray, I use it on shotguns and rifles it is superb stuff and removes carbon, lead fowling, effortlessly, on rifles carbon and powder fouling is the enemy of accuracy, not copper unless very heavy, a pull through with a patch soaked in this stuff brings the bore up sparkling every 30 rounds or so, and is brilliant on shotguns with a dirty bore, try it you WILL like it
  24. Did you send the lads permission letters so they can apply for deer rifles to help you out with the reds?
  25. To be fair to landrovers though, they have only been making them since 1948, so they have to have time to iron one or two teething problems out, lets be honest. In all seriousness comfort and equipment aside, one of their biggest let downs is shite pattern parts, when I was working on them regularly, the times you would fit a replacement part, and 3 weeks later the customer would be back, complaining that the water pump or whatever was leaking again,if they had some decent parts available for them, they would have a much better reputation.
