Splendid result mate, get that Muntjac stalk booked
-
You must be joking pal my .243 vanguard will shoot near enough one hole groups with Sierra grain blitz under 45 grains of h414/win760, if you reload properly your rifle/load combo will outperform any factory load by far mate.

After Land Owners Permission To Shoot
charlie caller replied to Luca Vincent's topic in New Member Introductions
He wont have time, he will be far too busy walking all his new permissions, and visiting the game dealer to arrange collection of all his game, I think it may be appropriate at this time to suggest we have a whip round for him for cartridges and bullets, the poor lad must be spending a fortune -
I agree mate, I think he is low, but obviously I am not in a position to say that with conviction as I have not felt him, how does his keel feel at his current weight? If he was mine by the sounds of it I would go back up mate, it certainly cant harm him that's for sure.

That is the thing with falconry, different answers from different people, and none the right or wrong way, I have to say that my mate who has years of gos experience, does not use the lure, only the fist, but he does not say that using the lure is wrong, only that he does not use it, me personally I like it and think it is a very useful tool, as an emergency card, or as a fitness tool, any hawk including a stubborn redtail will be instant if their weight is correct, and that is what you and only you can find out mate, but as for your current plan, irrespective of if you choose to incorporate t

Probably the best answer to that mate is sometimes, I think they are a bit like redtails in that respect, in that you think you have the weight sorted one day and the next at the same weight you don't get the same response, and that's where people get frustrated, but like a redtail it is about repetition, and good rewards, and that is why the lure is so important, where the fist is looked on with passing interest the lure is viewed as a must have, break my neck thing to have, just like redtails when dropped too low they will switch off and the response be very poor indeed,I think you have found

Fair play Milo, most people would not have the guts to tell the world the hawk nearly died, in your defence pal your MATE as you refer to him sounds like a tw-t and he does not sound like he has much experience with hawks to me brother, but lesson learned, you wont make that mistake again, get him back up to 1lb61/2 and tweek his weight from there, I would imagine once he is fit and muscling up he will prob end up around 1lb8, as I have said before don't be too concerned about the distance to the fist, medium flights for big rewards, and get him on that lure, enslave him to it, that is your saf
-
That's the spirit lad glad you are making some progress, like I said make haste slowly big rewards, ect once he switches on you wont believe he was ever that stubborn, he will be a total killing machine, keep us updated, and hats off Crow, it takes a man to say sorry.

Shame somebody wants to pay for bloody rabbiting, at this rate it will go like deer stalking, the c--t with deep pockets getting all the shooting while everyone else struggles. -
After Land Owners Permission To Shoot
charlie caller replied to Luca Vincent's topic in New Member Introductions
While you are at it pal I have a load of fallow stalking just over the border in Devon, I have been waiting to give it away to someone because I cant manage it, you can have that as well pal, my number is ----------- ring me and I will send you a permission letter. -
Don't do it they are a pile of crap, you will be under it constantly, I should know I used to be a Landrover mechanic, instead buy yourself a Shogun, Trooper, Nissan terrano 2, something that wont go wrong constantly, oh and the 2.5 n/a is as gutless as fu-k, and the 2.5td blow up at 70k, if you really must waste your hard earned cash, a 200tdi at the very least, DONT DO IT.
-
HMMM all the breaking in advice to me is nonsense the damn thing has already been fired quite a bit by the factory and the proof house, so what exactly are you "breaking in" hmmmmmm ?
-
I quite agree, I cant see the sense in it either, either you are fit to hold the thing or not, but that is the way they operate, ATM , lets hope things change, but being the cynic I am I cant see it.
-
They are not terribly interested in keeping your costs down I am afraid, more about public safety ect.
-
Bullshit mate, just shoot the damn thing 20 rounds or so clean it, and enjoy, you have got an excellent rifle and calibre if you really want to get the best out of her, reload, flare the case neck, and crimp the bullet into place, you will have fun mate, enjoy
-
Paying to ferret bloody rabbits you must be mad, in fact you should be ashamed of yourself, it spoils it for all of us
-
Well Alsone good luck with that one in our area, I think you would be lucky on .243 mine is deer and fox, but if you don't ask I suppose.
-
Alsone I can understand what you are saying but he would still have authority to shoot deer, and if he does not have deer on his land he will not be granted authority, simple as,as for being too powerful well that is ridiculous dead is dead, they should have just added vermin and ground game to his ticket, I had a conversation with a pal who comes under a different force to me he asked about having deer on his ticket with his .222 the feo he spoke to said if you don't have any on your ground we don't issue it as it stops poaching,if you were stopped with a deer in your motor and you had deer o
-
Really so you cant shoot Muntjac and Chinese water deer or roe in Scotland then with a .223? check your facts mate.
-
I will hazard a guess that they have refused him because if they granted aolq it would automatically give him authority to shoot deer, and if he has no deer on the land, or any land with deer on they wont give authority for them.
-
Nice rifle mate, and a cracking calibre very very underated in my book, good luck with the sale.
-
Just carry on as you are now, I told you it was down to cleaning when you decide you want to clean it, just remember to put some fouling rounds down the bore after and it will be back on song, just leave it 60 or so rounds between cleaning it, or more if you are feeling brave.

Loading Soft Points Into .243
charlie caller replied to billbroon's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Buy some 95 grain sst or something like that, and do away with the problem, I cant imagine that factory ammo is going to be too long for your magazine? So it sounds like a problem with the rifle, I would be inclined to take it to a competent gun/riflesmith and get it checked. -
Did not know Wheatherby did .22 rimfires, you learn something everyday.
-
Come on Milo mate, I am enjoying this thread, warts and all, I think you will make a success of this gos and have a bloody good hawk, dont let one negative comment stop you lad, carry on and prove any doubters wrong, if you decide not too well good luck with the giant sparrowhawk
