  1. CC I don't understand what lead would be in your barrel just as I don't get why Sdan wants to relead his barrel surely you mean copper? I sometimes fire cast bullets, without a copper jacket mate, not very often but like to give it a wipe when I do, but its more carbon than anything.
  2. So did this problem start after you had it screwcut, presumably for the mod to be fitted? CZ527s are brilliant rifles, I would be very surprised if the rifle was a bad one, shoot it without the moderator on first, just buy a cheap and cheerful scope, if your stuck I have a 3-9x40 AGS you can have for £20.00 plus post, proven to hold zero, if your scope is knackered it would put you on until you get a better one pal, the answer will be something simple, I wish you were closer mate I would have a look for you, let me know if you want the scope? This might seem like a daft question, but what are y
  3. 2" at 100 yards is very poor, what make of rifle is it? you need to go through a process mate and eliminate things one by one, first check the crown carefully, as even a small amount of damage will make the rifle group like a shotgun, take the moderator off, fire a group, and see if there is any improvement, let your barrel cool between shots, five minutes at least, take the scope off and swap it for another, re-zero and check groups, if your barrel is meant to be free floating, slide a bank note in between the barrel and wood(assuming it has a wood stock) do it when cold, and warm, to see if
  4. Nice one, always exiting going for new kit, hope you get what you want dude.
  5. I never use a rod, I use a pull through, with a patch soaked in Phillips barrel cleaner, leave it to soak for five minutes, then patch it out until they come out clean, I do it somewhere between 50-100 rounds, it leaves the barrel sparkling, and removes all traces of lead and CARBON (the worst one) fouling, been doing this on the same rifle for nine years now, with handloads it groups five shots into a 5p sized ragged hole if I do my bit, a guy I shoot with has a .222 he has had it for around 15 years + and has never cleaned it, and it is (as are all .222s) a tackdriver, I think people clean r
  6. Dont waste your money on a laser boresighter they will get you on target roughly, nothing more, save yourself the cash and just boresight it, its free
  7. Zero an inch high @100 yards mate, will be spot on, if I zero a new scope etc, boresight the scope first by putting the rifle in a secure clamp or on bags, look down the barrel at a target, then without moving anything look down the scope and see how far the cross hairs are from the target, then adjust until the two match up, this will give you a rough zero, start at 50 yards to get you on the paper, then back to 100, get some insulation tape and make a cross on some cardboard, get your bipod down and a bag under the rear, and hold your cross hairs on the cross, shoot five shot groups, allowing
  8. Just hobs left now, 3 sandys and 1 white.
  9. I agree with Rake, either get somebody local with a cf to shoot the fox, or if the old boy wont have it get yourself a .222 dont bother with the poxy hmr and you will be able to slot him at 200 yards easily, stink pit is the way to go, I have yet to see a fox that could resist it, especially a fox past his prime, and a hungry belly.
  10. What makes me laugh is they will let you have a .22-250 without a mentor, but insist on one for a .243, ridiculous, a .22-250 is every bit as deadly as a .243, and only produces around 400-500 ftlbs less, but thats the crazy world of firearms licensing for you, dont get too hung up about twist rates and barrel lengths mate, the standard 1/14 twist will be spot on with 50-55 grain bullets, and they are all you will ever need, and if you are not reloading, and using factory stuff, then most likely they are the bullet weights your rfd will have in stock, and you will have to shoot a lot of foxes
  11. Philistine you should have caught them on a size 16 grey duster, with silk line and a horse hair leader just kidding, well done.
  12. It is clear mate could not be clearer, you can use your rifle on land deemed SUITABLE by the chief constable for that area, so if you got some permission in Devon for instance, if it is passed for .243 upwards, your good to go, if its only passed for .22rf for instance you cannot, until it is open. So if it mirrors what your rimfire conditions say, they are not open either.
  13. Interesting take on things Deker, how would one show good reason, if you did not have written authority? I accept that evidence of stalking may be good reason, but not everyone wants to go stalking, or are you suggesting that just giving them the name address tel no ect of the landowner will suffice? Remember I am talking about somebody applying for the first time, yes if they were prepared to phone the landowner and ask him/her if you have permission then that would suffice, indeed they have done just that with me on renewal, I think they like it in writing to cover their collective asses, I
  14. No it is not open, if it was it would read the .243 calibre rifle, ammunition and sound moderator shall be used for shooting fox, deer and aolq, over land which the holder has lawful authority to shoot. that is open, yours is coditioned for land passed for .243 and above providing you have authority mate
  15. I know mate, of course you want it to all go ok, let me try and ease your mind a bit, you are getting a decent rifle, put a decent scope and mounts on it, get it screw cut by a reputable man, try a few types of quality factory ammo to see which one it likes best, get a Wildcat or similar moderator on it, go and zero it an inch high @ 100 yards, then go and enjoy it, clean it every 50-100 rounds or so, save all your brass for reloading, and take that bloody moderator off every time you shoot it, even if you have not fired it take it off, there really is no more to it than that, you have one of
  16. But they can put whatever they like in the "advice" note, and this is where the badly worded bit came in, it asked for the details to be "supplied" it did not say those details must be supplied in letter form, my pal only found that out when he handed his paperwork in for renewal, fortunately for him he had gained a newly dated letter, otherwise it would have delayed things.
  17. Farmers markets, or the boozer after when they have had a tot or two, I have got some good permissions over the years from places like that, and get some cards printed up, dont mention your shooting with an airgun, just ask for vermin shooting
  18. Nice going pal, where did you catch the Rainbows?
  19. Trust me you dont want a muzzle break on a .22-250 pal, you want a moderator, get a wildcat on it, there will be bugger all muzzle flip, the sound will be cut down nicely, and it will most likely be more accurate as well, forget muzzle breaks and get a decent over barrel mod on it, job done. And stop confusing yourself with bloody daft yank youtube vids lol, all will become clear the first time you pull the trigger dude.
  20. Yep I have in factory ammo, never reloaded them though, but I would like to, I think in a .243 they are one of the best deer bullets on the market mate.
  21. Yes it might be mate, this question cropped up the other day actually, I was helping a shooting friend fill in the new renewal forms, he is under Derbyshire, on the advice slip, it said "provide the name, telephone number, of landowner, and area of land you wish to shoot over" now to me that means "provide" ie put it down on the form, NOT accompany the forms with a letter, now he is a bit of a worrier, and decided to play it safe and get a fresh letter from a farm he has shot over for around 20 years, upon handing his forms in at the firearms licensing building he asked about this, he was told
  22. Well your area must be different to mine, in south yorks, if you apply for a fac for vermin/deer on private land, and do not provide evidence of written permission, you will not be granted the certificate, simple as that. I quite agree it is not needed for shooting, and I must have a dozen farms where I have verbal permission to shoot only, perhaps I am foolish? But that is how some of my landowners like it, and I for one respect that, it is their choice to write a letter or not.
  23. Well John if you are going to shoot next to a busy motorway with a high volume of traffic, and be on show with any kind of gun in this day and age, expect a visit, forget the "sackful" John, a mail van full of permission letters will NOT STOP THE PHONE CALL BEING MADE will it? I agree they were foolish not to carry their letter on that occasion and if ever I am invited to shoot next to a motorway in full view of the public, I will politely decline, if however I was asked to do a pest control job on land near dwellings, perhaps farm land that backed onto houses, or a golf course etc I would not
  24. Sierra are brilliant bullets pal,my .243 shoots tiny cloverleaf groups with Sierra 80gn blitz under 45 grains of h414/win760 it flattens foxes like a light switch being turned off, and is also very good on deer, it is my go to all round bullet in the .243 if I wanted anything heavier it would be Sierra game king 100 grain
