Zastava .22-250 Rifle
charlie caller replied to shropshire dan's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
The action is very similar to CZ which is a scaled down version of the 1898 Mauser action, still one of the strongest most reliable actions around, the twist rate will be standard 1-14 for a .22-250 designed for 50-55 grain bullets, the calibre being designed as a varmint round where velocity is everything, dont worry too much about it pal, just stick to 40-55 grain bullets, and watch crows dissolve at 400 yards -
Could he not be charged with some kind of littering offence, if he is throwing food presumably meat products onto your fathers land? Some kind of bio hazard maybe, might be worth speaking to BASC and getting their legal dept to advise, I would be surprised if he is not filming the foxes from his house, so make sure you do everything by the book, and when you have finished dont forget to lay the bag out so he can get a nice view of them :cray:in fact what about a peace making gesture? Offer him a couple of brushes to cuddle up to at night

I dont think it caused him any physical harm, but it buggered his rifle, I know what your line of thought is mate, to be honest I have read loads of similar incidents, and have got a bit bored with them now, I do hope nobody comes to any harm, but I would be worried by all the tales, if I had a hmr.

You wont regret the .22-250 thats for sure and they have a mini mauser action, so they dont come much better than that, buy it and enjoy -
Well there was a chap on the Stalking directory had the bolt face blown off, and to be honest having a round stuck up the spout is never good news, lets face it.

Bargain that mate, too cheap to be honest, good luck. -
I am afraid it is only a matter of time before someone is injured or worse, this is happening FAR too often.

All good advice, and I would like to add, when you go along and shoot the foxes, take someone without a firearm, but armed with a video camera, and film EVERYTHING, if he comes out shouting the odds, and rings the old bill and accuses you of threatening him, you have it all on film, the only words I would utter to him if he approaches, are to let him know that the rifle/shotgun you are carrying is unloaded(might be worth taking a slip along with you and slipping the rifle if he approaches), and get your mate to film that too, I would say it is a given that he will ring plod, and say you have th

Sound rifle mate, I know a lad who had a .22-250 I seem to remember it being a very accurate rifle, I never shot it but he always raved about it. -
Do you think you will get it open straight away?

1376 yards try this one.

Thanks Danw, I will pass that on to the Seeker, I will see him tommorow night, he will be chuffed to bits, always causes problems working it out, if a target is more than 25-30 yards away
-
edited you know it makes sense You are correct sir, it makes very good sense, the .25-06 death ray is all he will ever need and more So why have you not got one then? Come on mate I KNOW you're a secret 6.5 swede fan, just let it go it will be much easier that way I cant afford the powder to reload the .25-06 and just dont seem to be able to work out the vast ark of the turnips trajectory, so I am afraid I will have to stick to something flat shooting pal
-
Yes mate, I dont own one but was lent one by a keeper I know a couple of years ago to shoot Muntjac, we put it up against a big oak tree, it was very solid and felt safe, it had the extension to raise it higher, good bit of kit, and once you have shelled out it should last for a good few years.

On a serious note, for every single calibre out there you will get for and against comments, at the end of the day it is more important to feel confident in the rifle and ammunition, if you are, you will shoot well with it, they will all kill deer, and everyone has a favourite, Dan mate, do your research, and whatever you get, make sure it fits and feels comfortable, find the ammunition it likes and make sure you have a ready supply, or even better start reloading, get a .243, .25-06 ,.6.5x55 ,.270 .308 point it in the right place, the deer will fall down, enjoy.
-
Well done lads, I know it has also been posted on another section, but lets do all we can to send them a message
-
More tosh from someone who obviously knows nothing of the modern 6.5x55. There is excellent factory ammunition available, my preference being Norma and Federal. From an owner (for the past 15 years) who has probably used it to shoot more deer with than you will ever see! You obviously have not read the article, as unless I am pretty much mistaken he never mentions the turnip swede, it does always worry me slightly when people get so defensive about what is basically a tool to do a job and having never met me, I think saying more deer than I have ever seen is rather a sweeping

Iremember reading an old school ferreting book as a lad, his analogy for muzzling ferrets was, "like butting your head into a dangerous criminal and threatening to kill him" they used to snap off the canine teeth in the old days, another damn cruel and stupid practice.

You are not alone brother, I get it, with foxing, deer stalking, flying the hawk, trout fishing, you name it, its all part of the fun, I suppose it shows you that your mind has been working, I dont seem to lay in bed thinking about work much wonder why lol?
-
http://www.6mmbr.com/243win.html Have a look here before making a decision, this guy knows his stuff oh and dont bother with the turnip swede, unless you are going to reload, ask any one who owns one, factory (possibly with the exception of Hornady) is shi*e.

http://www.countryfile.com/poll/does-shooting-do-more-harm-good-environment Please take a moment out to vote on this lads, yes votes saying shooting does more good than harm currently at 72% lets make it 100%

.22-250 quieter than .243 I dont think so it is a brilliant fox and small deer round, flat and bucks the wind very well for a small bullet, due to it not being in the air as long 4,000 fps the 6.5x55 swede is ok but in my opinion apart from utilising heavier bullets at rather reduced velocity it has no benefits over a .243 and is very similar in terms of energy, AND factory ammo is crap, owing to the fact that this round has been around since the stone age like .22hornet and takes into account many ancient rifles chambered for it, so if its a turnip Swede you want get some reloading gear I

.303 is a good deer round, but the problem is finding a decent rifle, there are some out there like the BSA and sporterised ones by Parker Hale, but again the factory ammo is rather pedestrian so reloading is a must in my opinion, are you sure he said .303 mate and not .308? I love the .25-06 and if I ever change the .243 that is what I will get, you seem to be faced with rather a lot of choices old chap ok my suggestions either a .243 and happily use it for everything (you wont need bigger) or if you must have two rifles, a .22-250 for foxes and small deer(dont worry about barrel wear a keep
