  1. I take your point but a mail satchel full of permission letters is not going to stop an anti phoning and saying "man with gun walking about" is it? probably the only way to avoid hassle there is to tell plod you are going on a certain bit of land, I would only do that personally if I was shooting somewhere near dwellings, otherwise, I do not see the need I am carrying out a lawful activity, so dont see why I should have to.
  2. No the case from .243 is bigger, as that is just a necked down .308, the .22-250 is as SS says a necked down .250 savage case, and began its life (as so many did) as a wildcat cartridge, the .250-3000 savage as it was know was I think the first commercial cartridge to achieve, 3000 fps hence the name, it was developed around 1915 I think, so has been around for a while if you stand a .22-250 next to a .243 the .243 is a little fatter and a tad longer but there is not much in it.
  3. It certainly is as Danw says, it will rot out your crown, threads, and first bit of your barrel, that is why the crappy t8 moderators rot from the inside.
  4. I agree 414 or Win 760 is the same powder and work spot on in my .243, interestingly I was picking up some rimfire bullets at the weekend and got into a conversation about powders, the guy told me that Hodgdon powders were banned here now due to a chemical that is illegal in Britain, anyone else heard this? I thought it was bullshit but I am prepared to be told otherwise.
  5. Not if he is applying, he needs written consent, he does not make this position clear! I have loads of land where I only have verbal permission, and because I have a good relationship with the landowners, I am satisfied with that, but ata the risk of repetition, if he is applying for a .22lr to be granted he will need written authority, or he does not stand a snowball in hells chance.
  6. Thats like changing Susan Boyle for Britney Spears lol, well done for getting rid of the hatstand, enjoy
  7. As SS says try a few different types and see which groups best in your rifle, check out what components you have locally for reloading, most importantly powder, if you want any reloading advice, just ask buddy
  8. Try applying for a section one firearm, for deer/vermin, without a permission letter, COMPUTER SAYS NO
  9. Well I never seem to be able to get through either mate, but to be honest I just go where I want now, he owns (lucky sod) so much of the land round me, I am pretty much assured of being on his ground, and the last time I was challenged I only had to mention his Lairdships name and the poor chap was tugging his forelock, and telling me how sorry he was to have waisted my time, so Davy Hog, your problems are over, Rake comes through again, take my advice on the stalking rifle mate, get the paperwork in
  10. What do you mean "no success"? Would they not group at all? You must have been doing something drastically wrong if not, if you prefer to pm me go ahead and I will try and work out what you have done wrong , .243 is an easy calibre to load for and I would be very surprised if a quality rifle like a Tikka would not group even with less than perfect handloads, I have no loading data for h4198? I think you have the number wrong, but with Varget your 75 grain vmax load should be start load 36.0 col 2.640" max load 38.5 vel 3246fps 3408fps
  11. As you have already said your live traps are not going to be that successful at this time of year with all that grub around, so why not get the snares out? They are working for you 24/7 stick to the law on snaring and you will be fine, another weapon in your armoury he can do nothing about, and if he destroys them its criminal damage
  12. Are you asking about an application or do you already (as I suspect) own a .22lr? If it is the former, then yes absolutely you need a landowners permission letter, if the latter, then no, if you have a condition on your ticket that states "land deemed suitable by the chief constable" .......... providing you have permission from the landowner to be on the ground with a firearm, and the ground is passed safe for .22lr or bigger then crack on if you have an open condition then all you need is landowners permission.
  13. My local used to be run by a gay couple, they were the best tenants the pub has ever had to be honest, as said unless they were overtly gay, making comments etc, no problem, what they do in their private life is up to them.
  14. Hi lads I will be down that way in september for a week, do any of you lot fish from the beach there? I will be wetting a line as much as I can, if anyone has any tips, or fancies meeting up for a spot of fishing be great to hear from you cheers.
  15. Wow, are you in luck fella, you need to speak to Laird Rake aboot, he owns most of the farms around Gateshead and lots more in the northeast, he is having a problem with rabbits, he has asked me to help out but it is a bit far, I happen to know he requires roe deer culling heavily on three or four of his holdings, so you might want to apply for a deer calibre rifle after speaking to him, get on it pal he wont wait for ever, good luck.
  16. I bet its never jammed though eh mate? its probably just down to the hard life its had, swap it in and get an m1 or m2.
  17. Or perhaps set one of these up in the field for a few days, keep nipping back and put it in ridiculous postures, perhaps with a different hat on each day, the possibilities are endless, but he would think he was going mad lol.
  18. Well if it was my shop, and some little scrote I employed, was speaking to customers like that, I would want to know about it
  19. I am sure he will be in breach of some law/regulation, he is obviously the self important type, that thinks he can tell people what to do, on their own land, because he lives next to it, probably one of those townies that moves to the country, and complains about cockerels crowing, and the smell of cow shit, what the bell end does not realise is that it is through his actions that the foxes are a problem in the first place, so ultimately their demise is down to him, pri*k
  20. As Danw says dont touch a t8 they are crap, PES/MAE is my choice, but the wildcats are good mods too, Seeker has one on his .223 and 6.5x55, clean the barrel every 50-100 rounds or so mate, should be about right, some like to clean every time they shoot, but I think you can do more harm than good by over enthusiastic cleaning.
  21. Treecreeper makes a good point, a trail cam would be working for you gathering evidence while you are not there, and helping you to note his movements, if you go down the letter route, as Alsone suggests you could inform him you have photographic evidence of his fly tipping/contamination, I would be very surprised if he has not got a camera set up in his home, to film the foxes, and also you as you have had crossed words with him, I agree with the points raised about shooting them with a .22 without his knowledge, is the way to avoid any hassle, HOWEVER I am afraid I am far too bloody minded, a
  22. Dont worry about barrel wear mate, unless you are target shooting, you will have a hell of a job wearing the barrel out under normal use, foxing, maybe the odd deer, just think mate, how many rounds do you fire on the average night foxing? If I fire five I have had a bloody good night, more like two, as I have said before I have a keeper mate who has had his .22-250 since the eighties, he has shot hundreds of foxes with it and it is still spit accurate, one thing I will say, when you are zeroing, dont let the barrel get hot, let it cool before firing your next shot, it is the quickest way to w
