  1. The snares you have bought, are not among the best that are made, and sold, there was a thread on these some time ago ,and the genral opinion was ,they are crap, buy some off of Woodga ,or another reputable snare maker off this site.i have allways found with any job ,if you start off right ,with the right tools ,,and kit ,everything else will fall into place, look at snaremans sketches, theres enough in those to get you going, then in a week or two you will be catching more than all the lampers in Nottinghamshire, because theyve all got crap dogs

  5. if you eat beetroot , its your shit that goes red ,not your piss.
  6. I was over at Thrapston this morning,we were going to set some rabbit traps around a large disused quarry,it was a bit dodgy there ,so we left it for another day, while we were there we drove around the stewardship, all around ,where the snow had blown away ,you could see two wires six and eight inchs off the ground, staked at six yard intervals, connected to a battery, this system extended over hundreds of yards ,and the farmer told us it worked very well ,and he had no damage to speak of,even though there was a lot rabbits there, its similar to the system used around pheasant pens only on a much

  9. set in the morning, you can see the runs and beats much better, scent will blow off your tackle ,and the place your working will have time to settle down, also the earlier you are, the less people are about. trouble there would be non target species getting caught, ie dog walkers, much beter snaring at night I don,t think it would be practical to, set snares in places used by dog walkers, however ,the non target species you refer to would be perfectly safe ,as dog walkers usally walk round with thier heads considerably higher than six and a half inches

  13. thats the bit of kit isaw in the sunday pictorial about 1965,as you can imagine the details are a bit hazy now ,but could the device have re-emerged in canada in the mid 60s?
  14. there was a campaign, led by one of the sunday papers against the fur trade in the 60s ,the paper was showing a device that was being used in canada against the larger fur bearing animals,it was a very basic rifle barrel with a piece of meat attached to the muzzle, sometimes the rifle barrel was on a swivel with multiple baits, when a bait was pulled ,the gun lined up and fired,i think it was quickly banned for being to indescriminate, but at the time there was thousands in use ,OTC may have a picture or some litriture about them.
  15. Digging is part of the game,if rabbits just ran into nets it would soon get boring, its allways given me a buzz when you break through and find a red faced ferret ,and sometimes a few rabbits lined up behind it,digging a few ,missing a few,and catching afew, its all part of the game,if you dont enjoy all of it ,buy a gun ,or buy your rabbits
  16. i back netted one years ago, then one ran in behind it.
  17. its horses for courses ,so ifyou get fenn 6s and 116 bodygrips you will have everything covered
  18. cheers mate.....Ive been looking for this pic for ages Great thread mate too !! Darryl [/quote i saw that picture in the shooting times in the 60s,the next one in the sequence shows what happened when someone tipped a drop of poison into that pond.
  19. If your bolting rabbits for the dog ,fine just do it ,but i cannot see the point of letting dogs worry well netted rabbits
  20. Do it the GSW way and practice ,if you can do one ,you can only get quicker and better
  21. Now its late in the season there a bit watery,my mrs puts them in a pot with a clove of garlic and a spoonfull of parsely, keep the lid on till they turn to snot then poach eggs in it,serve on toast.if there still firm ,just fry em in bacon fat
  22. very true some rabbits are harder to catch especialy here in the midlands, in fact anywhere in the country on arrable land with thin hedges can be vert difcult to catch. but make no mistake hawcroft taking that 100 with 2 dogs was no walk in the park. what do class as easy land? my dogs done well on arable, the only place i thought was differrent was around Shepshed/whitwick were it was grass fields and stone walls, the rabbits came off the fields very sharpish, but if the dog took a bend out them at the walls, it was usually job done.
