  1. Those size will be fine but to be honest I would have just put a divide down your current shed in the middle. Then built a timber and metal mesh extension for the bird to fly in and get air bathe etc. But the shed half to go to for shade or roosting as it chooses
  2. best bet is to log onto falconry sites that sell them and they have the sizes posted. However I agree with the sellers of the plastic boxes that it is better to use plastic due to the risks of aspers from wood Size 25” tall 17” wide 21” deep (63.5 cm X 43 X 51.5) I get mine from http://www.falconfabrication.co.uk/travelboxes.php they are quality boxes and easy to clean
  3. Harris hawk are very adaptable and take to lamping quite well heard of people lamping pigeons with goshawks although that seems a waste as gos do so well in daylight. But you just use a light to get the hawk back to your fist as it sees the fist and food and returns. I must admit I used a dog collar flashing led light on my hawks leg when I tried it so that i could find the hawk if it went awol and sat up was quite funny as it flashed red and blue the bird looked like a police car flying in the dark. When you do lamp a rabbit its is best to keep the light on it unitl you get there or the bird
  4. Have you viewed starting out for begginers on this forum Jasper has posted a fair amount of info and links sure these would help
  5. Have you tried the food on a lure just if a falcon has only been flown to a lure and picked up from a lure its never going to come easily to a fist over distance. The guy who had been flying it may well never have flown it to the fist. Also I dont usually find it necessary to spend as much time with birds manning up as you are spending with this redtail. Hawks make decisions pretty quick as in the wild the prey is there and if the bird doesnt make a quick decision its opportunity for food is gone so dont hold your hand out for long periods. when you are trying to get it to the fist. remember d
  6. could be gape worm if he is opening and closing his mouth as if panting all the time. Advice about going straight to the vet is good advice as birds dont show illness until its pretty drastuc as ub the wild they would make themselves targets if they showed illness eaisly
  7. Was driving back from Carlisle today and say two red tail hawks one on a fence seemed to have nothing on its leg except a ring but I was driving so it was just a glance. then in the middle of the next field another what seemed to be a redtail on the ground. I didnt see anyone around so was just wondering if anyone had lost a redtail in that area or if there have been any lost and are they surving ferral and breeding?
  8. 1) Harris is most forgiving bird to learn with but people often upgrade from them after a season very unfair on the poor old harris 2) Not too hard to keep them but very hard to do them justice in terms of time 3) Weathering/Avairy, Telemetry, Travel box/cadge, Glove, Bow perch, Food, Bath, leather/Jess, swivel, leash and time All these things vary in price depending on how and what you use where you buy etc. 4)Harris take rabbits pigeons and anything else they can get hold of but in open flight are usually a little slow for taking feather Falcon maybe a better choice for crow and pigeon so
  9. check round with local pigeon fanciers just I had my female do a bung and go into a pigeon loft luckily the guys just shoved it in a pigeon box as opposed to killing the bird but I couldnt fly the hawk around that area again as she would just return.
  10. Lee it sounds like if you fell into a bucket of tits you would come out sucking your thumb Thats terrible luck still if you didnt have bad luck you would have no luck. At least the birds alright. ATB
  11. I would try nudging the weight up a little and see if she goes back to being calm. The bird may have been having a bad day you never know they are only obedient for food after all. Also I have had mine hand cuff me when it mistook my hand for having food in it when I was in the avairy in low light
  12. I was out yesterday and we flew 3 entered females that hadnt been flown together before with no problems. However we were flying from the fist and at bolted rabbits. Still all the other advice with regards blocking out etc. is good advice and should be followed.
  13. Feed mine on the glove and do the variable reward schedule. Got a male that will pick up a thrown bit of food and fly back to the glove to eat it
  14. That was interesting good posting
  15. Had a couple of birds where I was tracking them and then the signal stopped I suspect some theiving toad brought the bird down and removed my transmitter they were banging on 4 then nothing. Hope its not the case for you and you get your bird back
  16. Only way that would be possible is to make the bird owner responsible for culling it if lost for over 14 days etc
  17. Great clips would love to know how they always get the hares to run straight past them. But the harris was pretty impressive to see on the hare what an adaptable bird the good old harris is . Flushing for those falcons was very cool showed how well a trained dog and falcon can work together to get quarry. Wow would I like an eagle or to go on a fox hunt with an eagle that looked quality although I tbought the dispatch was a little slow in coming. Great vids keep em coming
  18. Aiming to get rabbit pigeon and crow with the Harris Hawks Crows Magpies and maybe pheasant with the falcons
  19. Yes PM me for details guy is Ashington Way
  20. Get your nephew to try athe lantra course it gives a good grounding in bird management and will make his flying more enjoyable
  21. Put some pictures or a video mate this I gotta see and what was your mate using ?
  22. sorry mate too far for me to come with birds
  23. You need to look at who knows you have ferrets mate as it doesnt seem like an opportunist crime like you said someone has come and specifically stolen your jills and left the hob. I assume they were seasoned workers and had a reasonable reputation as such. Most crimes carried out against peoples working animals are done by people they know may only be in passing but they are usually known anyways. So think who knew about your jills and who has seemed interested in them. I assume that you need to climb fences to get to your ferrets any ways good luck with finding them and with causing the thief
  24. Flying hawks and falcons for work and play
